Christmas in Russia - is a public holiday associated with the memory of the birth of Jesus Christ. The Christmas is celebrated on January 7 according to the Gregorian calendar (which corresponds to December 25, Old Style) . In Russia people keep the door open so that visitors could come and celebrate Christmas and share the festive gladness.

Christmas Eve is called " Eve " , and the word is derived from the ritual of food which people eat on this day. It was a porridge from red wheat or barley , rye, buckwheat and mixed with honey.

People couldn`t take the food on the Eve until the first star in memory of the star of Bethlehem.

Christmas is a holiday, when the whole family is gathered together at the same table . Table is preparing very abundant: pancakes , fish courses , aspic of pork and beef legs, suckling pig stuffed with oatmeal , a pig's head with horseradish , homemade pork sausage , roast meat, honey cakes and of course the roast goose and many pies.

Since Christmas it`s started Yule-tide - it`s holidays that last until Epiphany Eve festivities and accompanied by visit of relatives and friends, masquerades . In the olden days it was customary to caroling .

That is to go from house to house carol singing.

At Yule-Tide in Russia for centuries was accepted to dress up , organize fun games, go home, wake up the sleepers and congratulate all people walking the street and also people tell some jokes , sing a song . At the end of carols was universal fun, tobogganing , a common feast.

Yule divination is varied and numerous . Girls were engaged with it, sometimes under the guidance of senior women. Girls were wondered, if they would be married next year or remain " an old maid ", would be rich or poor , in general, whether alive or dead. So many divination related to the search of a betrothed .

Following the New Year celebrations in Russia comes Christmas. In accordance with Russian tradition Christmas is celebrated very fun and hospitable .

Nowadays there is the festive service during the night in the churches. Unfortunately for the Russian people in our time New Year is more important, than Home Christmas , probably because by this time the holiday in the country has been going for a week.

No. Hate to burst your bubble, but could you possibly think that Santa could live in the North Pole, where, One, the ice is melting, and two, being too cold live there, and three, how could you deliver presents to about and estimated 7 billion people in just a little over 8 hours? No. He does not exist.

Why is the doll a misfit on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This is the NUMBER ONE question asked about the Rudolph special. Despite Dolly being very sweet and adorable, she's a Misfit because:

1) Charley-In-The-Box says that a Misfit Toy is one that "NO LITTLE CHILD LOVES". Dolly found herself unloved for lack of good reason, and/or possibly because she was a rag doll at a time when the more "realistic" dolls were the latest craze (e.g. listen to Foreman Elf tell Hermey about the dolls that "children want" while watching Rudolph).

2) Also, Rudolph's producer says Dolly was abandoned by her little girl and suffered depression from being unloved. Perhaps she wound up a present to a girl who (like all the others) also didn't want her and cast her away.

The only thing "defective or "broken" about Dolly was her broken heart, caused by being unwanted. But Rudolph and Santa found her a loving little girl to want and love her.

What made the doll on Rudolph a misfit?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Her name, by all accounts I've read, is simply DOLLY. It's possible that her name might become Sue, as in " . . . a Dolly For Sue (from the lyrics to the song she and the Misfit Toys sang). She was a Misfit Toy because she was "cast away by her mistress, and suffered depression", according to Rudolph's producer Arthur Rankin Jr. The only thing "broken" about Dolly was her broken heart, because no little girl wanted her . . . or so she thought. Santa and Rudolph took care of that one foggy Christmas Eve, when Dolly became the first toy delivered that Christmas Eve (watch Rudolph, just before the ending credits roll).

What is the name of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer's mother?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Rudolph's father is the 7th famous reindeer that soars the globe with Santa, Donner.

Rudolph's mother is not one of Santa's famous 8 reindeer. Her name, in the 1998 movie, is Mitzi. She has also been referred to as Mrs. Donner, (in the 1964 TV special.)

What is Rudolph 's dad's name?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In the movie "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" Donner is Rudolph father, but in the song Rudolph's father is unknown.

Male Reindeer lose there horns in late November and grow them back in the Spring, Females keep their horns all year long. Have a look at Santa's Reindeer, they all have horns. So.... they are all Female!!!!! None of them could have been the father. Sorry for busting a few bubbles, but this is the actual truth about REAL Reindeer.
