What should a defensive driver do to stay alert?
Keep your eyes moving, do not stare at a fixed point in front of you. Avoid excessive caffeine usage. And as always if you are dosing, it is safer to pull over and power nap then to try to keep going.
Is it illegal to make a turn without your blinker?
The laws in most states require a driver signal a change in direction with blinkers or with an arm signal. You can be ticketed if you do not.

In most countries that I have lived in or visited, the car must be parallel to the kerb (unless authorised signs allow for angled parking) Here in Australia the Road Safety Parking Regulations Act as applied from State to State require parallel parking on the passenger side kerb only (left) unless the road is a One Way street. Parking must be as close to the kerb as is practicable (it used to be 10 inches maximum but that got repealed) a reasonable distance from the kerb is defined as what the reasonable person would consider praticable. Angle parking is sign posted and either 45 or 90 degrees to the left hand kerb. In U.K. both sides of the road may be used during daylight hours but only the left (passenger) side after dark.

The first thing to do is to ensure the windscreen is clean as dirt can create a reflective effect. Secondly get a good pair of sun glasses, specifically anti-glare sunglasses.

Does gas mileage really get better on a new car the longer you drive it?
Probably not. It might get a tiny bit better in the first few miles (probably under the first 100 miles) as the engine and gearing first wears in. But with today's cars I doubt it is noticeable.
There definitely isn't going to be an improvement after the first oil change.
How do you use the rev counter on a car?
In most cases, you don't.
These days, a high percentage of cars come equipped with a rev counter, or tachometer, but this was not always the case. Most of the tachometers I recall from my youth were aftermarket gauges strapped to the steering column or mounted on the dashboard. The most common ones were large chrome-plated things made by Sun. Factory-installed tachs were extremely rare, and actually unavailable in most car models. Tachometers were associated more with racing -- and those of us who wished we were racers -- than with everyday driving, and it is in racing and in performance diagnostics that tachometers are most useful.

The ones with a really bad attitude tend to tailgate you, flash headlights (and spotlights if they have them) shove fingers up in the timeless playground gesture, and very often drive large pickups. -Lots of them in my area.
In addition to this, a driver with a bad attitude would be classed as an 'offensive driver' and will usually drive fast when coming up to junctions and set off on amber light, and attempt to overtake you.
A driver with a good attitude: will wait until the light turns green at the traffic lights, let people out of junctions and off road's, aswell as making sure that they are driving at a safe speed and considering other road users.

in australia, there is no such thing as a salvage title on a car or truck.once you buy a vehicle you can do anything you want with it. if you want to leave it parked in back yard with no tag that is up to you.if you want to sell it with no tag, that is up to you.
What you should do to drive in reverse?
well first you have to shift it into the reverse gear. then you look over your shoulder (right if you're backing out right left if you're backing out left) and very, very gently tap the gas pedal. Most of the time the vehicle will back itself out without the gas pedal but if it isn't moving then gently tap the gas.
Is the road most slippery during the first half hour of rain?
Yes, but be aware that this is particularly bad in dry climates like Nevada.

The first 30 minutes of rain in Nevada or other desert places is worse than an ice skating rink (yes I tried it)
The reason is because oils and debris form on the surface and don't get washed away on a regular basis. As the rain comes down, it tends to wash away the deposits, so it is less slippery after the first half hour of steady rain.
