A lot of people will go to a school or church parking lot to practice.

Also you can find a quiet road with one or two cars parked at the curb, practice parallel parking behind just one vehicle, then when you're comfortable with how you park behind one vehicle, find two cars to park between.

Why specifically is it unsafe to restrain two people in one car seat belt?

Because the seat belt is designed to accommodate the average weight and physical size of only one person. It is anchored to the car and made of material that is intended to resist a particular amount of force during a collision. If the weight inside the seat belt is too high, it may give too much or even break.

The length of a seat belt when fastened around a person is intended to prevent the person's body from impacting the other parts of the car, such as the seat in front or the dashboard. If the seat belt is lengthened, such as when securing two people, the person in front is going to be closer to other points of impact inside the car, and injury is much more likely.

The shape of a seat belt is designed to hold at particular points on your body. The lap belt is intended to go across your hip bones, to hold it steady in an accident. The shoulder belt holds across the chest to keep you in place. Those parts of your body are strong and can handle the stress of impact much better. If you have more than one person in a seat belt, the belt is not going to cover those areas properly. Also, too much room inside the belt's "cage" allows your body to move around too much during impact and can increase injury, especially to limbs.

When you park alongside a curb the front and back wheels must be parallel within of the curb?

In most countries that I have lived in or visited, the car must be parallel to the kerb (unless authorised signs allow for angled parking) Here in Australia the Road Safety Parking Regulations Act as applied from State to State require parallel parking on the passenger side kerb only (left) unless the road is a One Way street. Parking must be as close to the kerb as is practicable (it used to be 10 inches maximum but that got repealed) a reasonable distance from the kerb is defined as what the reasonable person would consider praticable. Angle parking is sign posted and either 45 or 90 degrees to the left hand kerb. In U.K. both sides of the road may be used during daylight hours but only the left (passenger) side after dark.

Does gas mileage really get better on a new car the longer you drive it?

Probably not. It might get a tiny bit better in the first few miles (probably under the first 100 miles) as the engine and gearing first wears in. But with today's cars I doubt it is noticeable.

There definitely isn't going to be an improvement after the first oil change.

How do you use the rev counter on a car?

In most cases, you don't.

These days, a high percentage of cars come equipped with a rev counter, or tachometer, but this was not always the case. Most of the tachometers I recall from my youth were aftermarket gauges strapped to the steering column or mounted on the dashboard. The most common ones were large chrome-plated things made by Sun. Factory-installed tachs were extremely rare, and actually unavailable in most car models. Tachometers were associated more with racing -- and those of us who wished we were racers -- than with everyday driving, and it is in racing and in performance diagnostics that tachometers are most useful.

My '04 Chevy pickup has one. I almost never look at it. It could stop working altogether and I probably wouldn't notice for a while.
