Conduit sells search engines to sites that install the engine to hijack home pages. I purchased a product from Ashampoo, and rejected the option to install the Bing Ashampoo search bar, yet it was installed. The code of my hijacked home page is http://search.conduit.com/?ctid=CT2475029&SearchSource=13. Conduit evidently is in some partnership of revenue sharing of the hijacked home pages. A Web of Trust search will show many complaints from users. Conduit Engine shows up in my add/remove programs, but failed to uninstall, and the "uninstall" was preceded by some direct script code that quickly popped up and then disappeared, I assume so that the search bar cannot truly be uninstalled.
[EDIT (Not from the same person): I have Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64-Bit OS. I was able to uninstall the Conduit Engine program without issue. I simply went to Control Panel, then Programs, then selected Conduit Engine icon and clicked Uninstall/Change. A small window appeared and it had a little button that said: "Disable all my Apps" and above that was an empty "list" where I am guessing any installed Apps that had to do with the program should have been listed. There was a confirm or whatever option at the bottom of the mini-window and I clicked that and it sent me to a survey website that asked me why I was uninstalling the program. Once I submitted the survey and closed the window the program was removed.]
A Google search of Conduit Engine will result in complaints by users who want to uninstall the search engine, but are having problems.
Because my edit varies greatly from the advertiser's own description below, I will leave their ad, until more research can be done, that justifies taking their advertising down. Do be aware that they are associated with home page hijacking and spyware, to persons who do not desire to have their engine. I have discovered this from Web of Trust and Google. I hope to have my answer improved, once I have discovered how to have their spyware removed. I welcome any answers that can improve upon mine. I will also post how to remove the engine once I am successful.
This spyware 'search engine' that refers unwilling users to advertisers deserves a better answer than what is below sooner, rather than later.

The download from the ISP is not 1.5 gigabytes. It is 1.5 megabits per second or 1500 kilobits per second (kbps). A gigabit network interface card is used for local area network transfer of files at speeds of 1000 kbps not for transfer from the Internet. So gigabit NIC cards transfer data from computer to computer at these speeds and will not increase transfer data faster from the ISP to the computer at a faster rate than a 100 megabit NIC card. One might see a download speed in bits from the ISP at 1500 kilobits per second. However, if your application on your computer has a message saying transfer at 160 kBps this is words that have been transferred. Since there are 8 bits per word you would have to multiply the number of words times eight(8) to get the bits per second. So 160 x 8 would be 1280 kbps. Again, the gigabit board will not increase Internet download, only the speed that data is transferred between two computers on a local area network.

Password authentication protocol (PAP) and challenge handshake authentication protocol (CHAP) are both used to authenticate PPP sessions and can be used with many VPNs. Basically, PAP works like a standard login procedure; the remote system authenticates itself to the using a static user name and password combination. The password can be encrypted for additional security, but PAP is subject to numerous attacks. In particular, since the information is static, it is subject to password guessing as well as snooping.
CHAP takes a more sophisticated and secure approach to authentication by creating a unique challege phrase (a randomly generated string) for each authentication. The challenge phrase is combined with device host names using oneway hashing functions to authenticate in way where no static secret information is ever transmitted over the wire. Because all transmitted information is dymanic, CHAP is significantly more robust than PAP.
Another advantage of CHAP over PAP is that CHAP can be set up to do repeated midsession authentications. This is useful for dial-up PPP sessions and other sessions where a port may be left open even though the remote device has disconnected. In this case, its possible for someone else to pick up the connection mid-session simply by establish physical connectivity.
So, definitely go with CHAP if you have choice.

Is exede better than hughesnet?
I'm going to say it plain and flat, no. Yes it is faster but you pay for the equipment a month as well... which is an extra $10 bucks the ISP sucks hell, yes it is fast but remember this, it's 7.5GB of broadband a MONTH! Hughesnet refills your broadband a DAY!
Also when I tried canceling hughesnet they transferred me to a sales rep who offered me to pay 60$ a month for 8 months and I ended up getting 1GB of broadband a day now.
Which now that plan was done it went back up to 90$ a month and I still have the 1GB a day of broadband. I use ad the most 400 - 500 MB of broadband a day. There is no way in hell I'd be able to keep up with the 7.5GB a month.
So no exede is no better then hughesnet as a matter of fact it's worse when it's like 20$ less then what you pay for hughesnet. I might have just saved you life just now >_>
