I would suggest trying a local gunsmith who has been around a while. Gun shows would also be a possible source. Numrich Gun parts, http://www.e-gunparts.com/, found a clip for a Savage Model 1903 .22 short pump action rifle for me many years after it had been discontinued. They are known for their large stock of gun parts. Magazines for this rifle are also available at www.midwayusa.com. In googling the model 42, I learned it was a rebranded Marlin 80 and I bought the Marlin 80 magazine; it is product # 635389 and it looks, fits and operates the same as the original JC Higgins clip. The above is correct. The Model 42 and the Marlin Model 80 use the same clip. Do a google search for "Marlin 704046" and you will see a bunch of online stores selling them for about Fifteen bucks. midwayusa.com didn't have them when I searched.

There should be a manufacturer's serial number somewhere. Unless the serial number has been deliberately erased!

Bolt head is attached to bolt body by a cross pin. Pin is driven out from LEFT to RIGHT using proper sized pin punch. If you do not have the proper tools, take this to a gunsmith- most of those parts are no longer available, break them, and you will not find another. If you only want to clean the rifle, use a spray gun cleaner like Borescrubber. Wear safety glasses while using the spray.

Your J.C.Higgins is a sears name that was made by Savage.It is the model 6,or 87.I would use these madel numbers to cross reference the correct scope base and rings for your firearm.I would look at the old redfield mounnts as they made these for a lot of older model firearms.Good luck in your search.

No way of knowing without the model name and number indicated.I can say that A.H.Fox was in business from 1906-1946,With some models made from left over parts until early in the 60,s.

Your Savage model 1907 which was made from 1910-1917,will bring between 165-425 dollars based on your handgun having between 60%-95%of it,s original finish remaining and a good bore.

Savage Arms might have one,they made the springfield line.Or you could look on the internet.Or try Cornell publications,they might have one.

The model 29 was replaced with the Model 29-A about 1938; this was a completely new design of action and not just an improvement. The checkering is standard but only became standard later in production - earliest checkered I have seen is about 124,000 serial and the highest about 145,000 but this is based on a very limited number & has a very high margin for error. There are some variations in the checkering, for instance your gun has the bottom of the forearm checkered and later ones didn't. The 'L' after your serial number is just a code showing the gun was Savage named - model 29 based 'house brand' versions made for different retailers had a 'K' suffix serial number. These letter suffixes were recorded in the factory ledgers, all later 29 actioned guns were serial numbered together so it is impossible to know the numbers of each based on serial numbers - your gun is serial number 124375 L, the next serial number 124376 possibly could have had a 'K' suffix and been a 'RANGER' of 'WARDS WESTERNFIELD' or something. The highest number I have recorded for any 29 actioned gun is 149926K and that is a 'SPRINGFIELD REPEATER' - this is a few thousand higher than any Savage named guns I have seen so these may have been for 29 parts clean-up as the 29-A's came out.

All model 29's had Octagon barrels, as did early 29-A 's - later 29-A's went to round barrels and this actually was before WWII, not after as many sources say.

Your gun was produced after Hi-Speed loadings become common but I would still suggest using just standard velocity if you plan to shoot it, I have seen a couple examples of guns with some damage to the locking surfaces on the bolt & receiver - but this might have happened recently from someone trying to shoot stingers or some other hyper-velocity load in them, but why take a chance.

Have the 12 gauge, single shot palmetto arms co., electro steel choke bored, patented august 12 1913. It also has 2 other markings on it, 657 EE on barrell and in the chamber. Then on the small forward snap off stock is also is stamped in the wood 7 B 1, I read that is an indicator as to where and when it was made. What can you tell me about this weapon?
