Earlier models will have numerically lower serial numbers. Serial numbers do overlap with other Savage Arms firearms during this era. I currently own a Stevens Savage model 125 but the serial # is much higher leading me to believe these guns were made much later than 1912. My guns serial begins with D520xxx , six numbers after the letter D. Anyone with more info please .

Savage Industries did not own Stevens arms until 1920 when they purchased them.

Savage Industries was manufacturing the 125 in 1982 but I am not sure when they started or stopped production.

Savage arms purchased Savage Industries out of bankruptcy in 1991 and never manufactured the model 125.

I now have a 1976 Savage Arms catalog and it does not list the model 125

I have searched advertisements and gun catalogs all the way back to 1944 and have been unable to find any listings of this rifle. I also find many conflicting dates concerning Savage Industries/arms and their purchase of J. Stevens Arms and the manufacture of the model 125. I am beginning to believe the history of this firearm is lost.

It will in every case depend on the condition of the gun. The model 99 savage has 24 different model letter designations so you would really have to look in a current blue book of gun values to determine which model you have and then what grade it is to get a better ideal of what your particular model is worth. Another way it to just take it to any gun dealer and ask how much they would buy it for and when told just say, "Well I just was wondering but I think I will keep it for now" Then use that figure they give you knowing if they were to resell it they would usually resell it for almost twice of what they bought it for. If a dealer was to say he would buy it for $150 then he would probably try to resell it for $250-$300 and so on. Of course some dealers would say $100 then if they bought it and you came back and looked a week later you mght see it for sale on a shelf for $450 Which is why it is worth it to have the Blue book of gun values book just as a way to keep track of what is a good deal and what is not when buying or selling. Then use the figure you find for your model and grade and find a good dealer that will sell on consignment for you. Takes a lot of hassel out of trying to sell a firearm if you have a gun dealer that will do it for you in a place people can see it on a daily basis for a small 10% consignment fee.

It is worth anywhere from $50 to $150 depending on condition any your interest level.

What i have read on the internet gun dealers prices for the little scout14 1/2 are.260 to 299. dollars ,in good condition. Ihave a little scout ,in good condition and i do not want to sell it.Ihope this helps answer your questions .

In areas of country where deer hunting with shotgun only is required many parents start young hunters with .410 gauge shotguns loaded with OOO buckshot so pump 410's are easy to sell in late summer/early fall. I don't have one in front of me, but if it's like other Model 94s you should be able to just grip the forearm near it's muzzle end and pull it off. It's probably held on by a spring like other 94s.

Hold down the safety switch and gently pull the bolt out, and a 1/4 turn on bolt at point where it sticks. On the Savage 340's. With clip out and safety off pull back the bolt as if you are chambering a round till bolt is all the way back. Pull trigger back fully and slide bolt out while trigger still depressed. To reinstall hold trigger back fully and slide bolt back in same position it was removed.

Shotgun sizes were designated according to the number of steel balls that could be dropped into the barrel that would weigh a pound. 12 steel balls weighing one pound would be dropped into a 12 gage shotgun. Thus it is a larger size than a 16 gage.

(Do not waste your money on a 16 gage shotgun, at least in the United States. You will have difficulty finding shells. You should get a 12 gage or a 20 gage.)

The Model 325 bolt action is a nice little rifle, my 8 year old shoots slightly reduced loads in mine and he loves it. It is a very accurate little rifle and worth every penny I paid for it, $190.00. I use mine as a knock-about gun on my farm, the original stock does have a few repaired cracks in it, but a laminated thumbhole stock is available, I just haven't decided whether I want to put $170 into a new laminated stock when I can get a new factory original for $100. I did have to file a loading ramp into the chamber because uncrimped bullets would hang up, now it feeds all the time with no jams.

Sort of like driving your 1940's Ford at interstate speeds. Will do just fine for a while, but eventually something is going to be damaged. Newer guns use harder steel for the barrels and even they get more wear from steel shot than from the old lead shot or newer (more expensive) soft shot.

You can shoot steel out of the shotgun as long as the barrel has not been backbored. The steel shot remain in the wad cup of the shot until it hit the choke at the end of the barrel, so the shot does not actually touch the sides of the barrel. (this applies to all shotgun barrels).

Make Sure your Chokes are not FULL, but Mod or Improved if your going to shoot steel
