If a schizophrenic threatens to commit suicide does that count as a hostage situation?

You are confusing dissociative identity disorder, also known as multiple personality disorder, with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a disorder in which the person suffering loses touch with reality. Dissociative identity disorder is a disorder in which the person suffering believes him or herself to have multiple personalities coexisting in one body. See the related questions for a more in-depth exploration of what the two illnesses are.

As the 'personalities' are not real people, a threat of death to them would not be viewed as a hostage situation.

Do you have a mental illness if you have an imaginary friend when you're 15 years old?

if that's the only thing that seems out of the ordinary from other 15 year olds, than no, you probably do not. but i would talk to your parents if i were you, they may be able to reassure you that you are normal. if you are just lonely, and have a hard time making friends, join a club or a sport. that may help. if you can, try to find a way to give your imaginary friend a good bye that is memorable to you.

hope this helps. i also had an imaginary friend until i was about 13. but i do not have a mental illness

Can Wellbutrin cause schizophrenia?

There is no direct evidence that Wellbutrin (bupropion) causes schizophrenia. However, in rare cases, certain medications, including antidepressants, can trigger or exacerbate psychotic symptoms in individuals with a predisposition to mental health disorders. It's important for individuals with a history of psychiatric conditions to discuss their medication options thoroughly with a healthcare provider. Monitoring for any unusual changes in mood or behavior is also crucial when starting a new medication.

Compare and contrast the characteristics of schizophrenia and antisocial personality disorder?

Schizophrenia is a disorder of thought. It manifests as psychotic symptoms, disorganized symptoms, catatonic symptoms and negative symptoms. Those include delusions, disorganized speech, hallucinations, avolition, anhedonia, thought disorder, and many others. Sz is thought to be caused by irregular levels of dopamine in the brain.

Antisocial personality disorder is a personality disorder. There is no known physiological cause for it. It presents with symptoms that you can find on wikipedia, like

Persistent lying or stealing

Apparent lack of remorse[3] or empathy for others

Cruelty to animals[4]

Poor behavioral controls - expressions of irritability, annoyance, impatience, threats, aggression, and verbal abuse; inadequate control of anger and temper

A history of childhood conduct disorder

Recurring difficulties with the law

Promiscuity

Tendency to violate the boundaries and rights of others

Aggressive, often violent behavior; prone to getting involved in fights

Inability to tolerate boredom

Disregard for right and wrong

Poor or abusive relationships

Irresponsible work behavior

Disregard for safety*

The conditions share that both may have:

lack of empathy for other (in sz it is caused by blunted emotions, and sz people want to have empathy)

trouble with personal relationships (again, for different reasons)

persistent lying (in sz, this would be caused by delusions)

These are very different conditions, so there is not much use in comparing the two.

What year did Wesley Willis first start hearing voices?

Wesley was pistol whipped from behind which caused certain damage to the brain. He also had an intense childhood of abuse which triggered his Chronic Schizophrenia. Although he was advised by doctors to get shots of Prolixin every few weeks, most of the time, he was not on medication which fueled many urban rumors about him due to his outbursts. Wesley was a Savant and knew how many minutes a person was alive since their birth.

Can schizophrenia lead to depression?

Its' probable that schizophrenia of itself, only that, is not a cause of depressed emotions. Most of the depression is caused by stigma (others hating, and laughing at and making jokes about the schizophrenia sufferers that they don't even know, only hated because of the disease), and that schizophrenic patients are often cruelly treated by others: that's' depressing.

Giving the patients tender loving care and proving they are worthwhile regardless of the sickness, is part of a recovery. The recovery can take a long time, even years.

A multi-disciplinary approach will help, such as: also, see an Osteopath since often the real cause of the problem is a back injury, an injury to the nervous system, or the neck or spine, or the head. Often that's' accompanied by amnesia. Often, these people are found by others, collapsed on a roadside (may have tripped over and hurt themselves), or uncharacteristically found naked (having been attacked by stupid ones and hit over the head or spine since the attackers are merciless and want to kill their victim), other causes too.

If a person takes mind-altering drugs like marijuana, that can cause mental problems.

If a person is too emotionally numbed, that can cause mental problems e.g. watching the news and suddenly a newsflash comes on the screen with a real-life showing and broadcasting of a new atomic bomb attack: that's' the main problem of the children of today, they could not help but hear about that in the Middle East.

In any case, try Bach Flower Therapies, research them and buy some, they are wonderful emotional/mental healers of anyone.

Give them tender loving care. Don't nag, boss or bully the patients of any sickness. Don't just talk: really listen. And realise neither patients nor the staff nor the family, nor I, are perfect... YET!

That's there opinion, this is mine: schizophrenia often leads to depression, and not because of others opinions of their condition, but because of the nature of the disease, which tends to degrade its victims severely. The voices they hear usually tell them they arent good enough, no one could ever love them etc. if they are schizophrenics that have tendencies toward hallucinations, they are usually disturbing as well. so yes, it can lead to depression.

What is schizophrenia most likely to be treated with?

Are there any drugless treatments for schizophrenia that have at least some success?

A good coping strategy for sufferers of schizophrenia is cut out television, newspapers, radio and replace them with music, reading and keeping your mind busy doing something creative maybe or take up new interests to keep your mind focused on something other than what you are hearing, play soft music through earphones whilst doing so to block out any outside noise which often triggers paranoia.Lavender oil burnt in a oil-burner helps to relax so invest in one of these.

Try enteric coated fish oil capsules.

You should also see a Jungian Analytical Psychologist. They do a lot of work with people, without the use of drugs; and they have a great deal of success.
