What is scuba diving in the blue hole in Belize like?

The Blue Hole was caused by the roof of an underwater cave collapsing. The water surrounding the opening is relatively shallow, but the floor of the cave is over 400 feet deep. A typical dive starts by descending along the wall of the collapse to a depth of about 130 feet where you can then swim around the stalactites hanging from what was the ceiling of a once dry cave. The stalactites are huge, but relatively unimpressive, and the depth means you spend your time plastered to the ceiling. Gray rock with little natural light and no coral (not enough water movement) makes this a been-there-done-that dive in my book.

Bottom time goes fast as does your air at this depth, so back up past more boring rock until you reach the sandy bowl of the crater's bottom to finish your safety stop. If you go to Belize to go diving, you almost have to dive the Blue Hole, but if you're like me, it won't be on your "must do again" list.

When do you have to do a refresher scuba course?

Technically Never. There is no requirement set from the agencies.

Sensibly speaking it depends on they type of diving you intend to undertake. Under most circumstances if someone is intending to dive without the presence of a dive master or instructor and has no dives in the last 14 months refresher dives are recommended.

Which is true about the pressure of a fluid at a specific depth?

The pressure of a fluid generally increases with depth. This therefore means that at a specific depth the pressure of a fluid is constant.

What is maximum allow bottom time according to recereation dive planner?

What are the Phases of the arm cycle in any stroke?

There is the extension phase where you reach out as far as possible. Then the catch phase is next its where you initially catch the water then it leads right into the actual pull phase where the water is thrust behind you. which leads directly into the recovery phase of the stroke where the arm moves back to catch more water and start the cycle again.

Why are diving accident victims placed in a hyperbaric chamber?

Diving accident victims are placed in a hyperbaric chamber primarily to treat decompression sickness, also known as "the bends." This condition occurs when nitrogen bubbles form in the body due to rapid ascent after deep diving. The hyperbaric chamber increases atmospheric pressure, allowing the nitrogen bubbles to dissolve back into the bloodstream and reducing the risk of tissue damage. Additionally, the chamber can enhance oxygen delivery to tissues, aiding in recovery from injuries related to diving.

Where is the dive capital of the world?

Can you ship a scuba tank?

Yes, it just has to be empty. I think shipping companies like you to remove the valve first. At that point, it's just another heavy piece of metal.

What is a Scuba Dive Computer used for?

The dive computer essentially calculates in real time the nitrogen levels in your blood used on depth and time (and possible air mixture: ie: NITROX 32%) - they can (and do) much more than that including, timing your dive, ascent rates - some even calculate time left based on how much gas is left in your tank!!!

What does it mean when a scuba diver places his mask on his forehead while in the water?

Technically speaking this has no relevance to the quality or action of diving. It is not a formal signal of any status nor skill level.

In the social context of the dive community it is taken as a sign that the Diver in question is less experienced as this action is one of the most common ways to loose a mask.

(www.scubaboard.com has many references to this practice)

Does peeing in your wetsuit make it rip?

No, it does not. When I was certified, I learned you can pee in your wetsuit, but it sounds kinda gross. This means that you can pee in your wetsuit without it causing any damage. I own a 3mm wetsuit and peeing in it hasn't caused any damage.

Does a divers bouyancy change with depth?

Absolutely - air compresses at depth, and because wetsuits are made up of air cells, they compress and lose buoyancy along with the air in the BCD, so divers have to add air while descending. Also, as you breathe air, the tank gets about 6 pounds lighter during the dive, so you need to release air. Finally, as air expands while ascending, you need to let air out.

What dangers do pearl divers face?

well, as a pearl diver..i know how long it takes to be under water...before you actually get a pearl, so drowning is number 1..getting eaten by sharks,,number 2..why?.oysters can be found near reefs..means food..means sharks. that's all i can say

Are there any helmets that can keep pressure at 1 ATM for people who can't equalize?

There are one-atmosphere suits that do this (the JIM suit was one), but they aren't in the realm of sport diving, either in training or price. If you can't possibly equalize your ears, you're not going to be able to dive. [[User:Cjonb|Cjonb]] 22:37, 2 Jun 2008 (UTC)
