What is the best hawaiian island to scuba dive?

Although there are a few spots you can see some fish around Waikiki, the best place to snorkel in Honolulu is actually just a little east of the city: Hanauma Bay. Hanauma Bay is a volcanic crater that the ocean filled with water eons ago, making a tight circular bay. There is a reef located in the middle of Hanauma Bay that keeps the roughest of the waves out of the protected cove area near the shoreline. The coral isn't very pretty at Hanauma Bay, at least not inside the reef, because it is an extinct reef. However, the fish are dazzling in their variety and color. You can see more types of fish in Hanauma Bay in a few hours than you will see in days at many other snorkeling sites. If you want to go to Hanauma Bay, go early to make sure you can get parking. There are also buses and shuttles that will take you from Waikiki. There is snorkel equipment and food available at the Bay.

What is a blunt-tip dive knife?

Many dive knives have blunt (squared-off) tips. This makes them safer. You're not likely to need a sharp-tipped knife underwater. You're more likely to just need the cutting edge. Sharp tipped knives tent to snap off and break when prying at things. The blunted tip is more practical as you never need to stab anything but you often need to pry things underwater.

A sharp knife is what you need for cutting line and old netting etc.

What is the best definition for a squeeze when its related to diving?

Effects of Increasing Pressure when diving which results in pain or discomfort in your body's air spaces.

A squeeze is best defined as a condition that causes pain and discomfort when the pressure INSIDE an air space of your body is LESS than the pressure OUTSIDE an airspace.

What are the three important scuba diving changes that occurred in the 1950's?

In 1950, scuba changed from primarily breath holding to just underwater scuba, technological advances in the 50's create the bathyscaphe, which reached a depth of over 13,000, and Jaques Cousteau was introduced to the American public and spurred interest in scuba diving.

Are there any dive sites in California?

There's really a wealth of spots to hit in California...

On the northern end there's Mendocino and Monterery, which have really awesome kelp forests.

In the south there's Catalina Island (Casino Point Park) which is probably the most popular shore dive in California. The Channel Islands are great because of the sea lions, and San Diego is famous for all its wrecks--Wreck Alley's biggest hit is the Yukon, a Canadian 366 foot ship that's down 100 feet.

Happy diving!

How do scuba divers use the laws and principles of the behavior of gases to their advantage?

Because a large volume of air can be compressed into a little volume cylinder, the use of Scuba Gear is well-liked to those that wish to go diving deep and, for an extended period, perhaps for an hour or more depending on the quantity of air compressed into the cylinder. The following is based primarily on the Inverse Pressure and Volume, Boyle's Law

At the surface, the atmospheric pressure is 1atm. Absolute or 14.7Psia.

For every 34 feet (10m) of depth beneath the surface, the pressure increases by 1 atm.

30 meters down the total pressure is 4atm. Absolute (58.8psi).

The Air Regulator of the Scuba program keeps the supply to the diver at a pressure equal to the pressure the diver is at.

His entire body such as his blood program is at this pressure.

His body program is therefore under a significantly higher pressure than at the surface.and the air in his blood program is the same.

When the diver is returning to the surface, he must do so extremely slowly and breathe normally to allow his body to maintain equalising with the decreasing pressure. If he comes up too fast, Nitrogen (and other gases), in solution in the blood forms bubbles in the blood and outcomes in 'The Bends' as the bubbles collect in tissues and joints and build up pressure causing severe pain, cramps and even death. Divers, after lengthy submergence, sometimes have to go into a 'Decompression' chamber to ensure all the high pressure dissolved gases have been eliminated

How do you tell if it is decompression sickness or normal muscle pain?

DCS is unlikely to feel like normal muscle pain. This is because muscles are well served with blood vessels. It is areas such as cartilage, found in joints that are least able to get rid of nitrogen quickly and as a result gas embolisms form causing extreme joint pain. The term 'bend' or the 'bends' is attributed to people doubling up with pain in their joints and was initially reported in workers creating bridge foundations in pressurised boxes called caissons (hence pseudonym caissons disease). Mild decompression sickness can be referred to as a 'skin bend' which can be a painful rash or numbness or tingling but muscle pain due to embolism would be normally be accompanied by much more noticeable joint issues and more likely preceded with extreme lethargy and weakness. Other symptoms are headaches, nausea and a whole raft of more extreme symptoms including paralysis and death.

The big clue will be whether these pains follow a bout of dubious diving practice when a diver has surfaced quickly from a long deep dive, skipped deco stops or programmed his/her dive computer to a nitrox mix there weren't using or done repeat dives using the wrong table or swapped dive computers etc. DCS invariably presents itself very shortly after de-pressurisation, so if you develop symptoms 24hrs after diving (and are not on an aeroplane or mountain climbing) it is likely to be something else. DCS is however bubbles of gas and they can have the same effect of stopping blood getting to vital bits as a blood clot etc and can cause all manner of problems so if you think you may have it, take it seriously.

How much does a scuba instructor make?

Pay depends on Market.

Average is around 20-25K. It is common to have a second job and teach scuba on the side.

Can you see mermaids without going deep sea diving?

No. They are not real so you can't see something that is not real.

What are external forces in an organization?

legal political economic social technological competition

Do you have to be a certain weight or body type to be a scuba diver?

No, you don't need a certain body type to scuba dive. Because you use flippers to SCUBA dive, you can be a very lousy swimmer and learn to SCUBA dive. You may look stupid with a very tight wet suit during scuba diving, but you can dive. When I got certified, I learned that you have a very slightly higher chance of the Bends during scuba diving, but this is a small percentage. The pros of scuba diving outweigh the cons.

Which airline can i fly from Bangkok to Birmingham UK with that allows you to carry scuba diving equipment for free?

SCUBA equipment is no different than any other type of luggage (except for pressurized tanks) whatever the airlines weight limit for luggage is is what it is. besides, you're proably going to a nice tropical island, wear a nice shirt and pair of long pants and comfortable shoes (you can wear them when you go out and eat at night) pack 2 pairs of shorts, a few t-shirts, a pair of sandals and pack the rest with SCUBA gear! ps: never forget your C-Card!!!!!! http://scuba-diving.suite101.com/article.cfm/packing_for_a_dive_vacation

What gauges in scuba diving gear will a console hold.?

A scuba regulator console will usually contain a submersible pressure gauge (SPG), and may also include other instruments including a depth gauge, a bottom diver, a dive computer and/or a compass.

Where can scuba gear b e used?

Scuba gear can be used under water. This can be in oceans, lakes, rivers and even swimming pools. Scuba gear is used to dive on sunken ships, or to search for survivors and/or bodies in water involved crash sites. It is used to dive on coral reef in marine biology research.

Do you stay warmer in cold water scuba diving wearing under armor under your wet suit or warmer without it?

I am not overly familiar with under armor and their different products, but my inclination is to say without it. Just because a material will add extra warmth when dry using a dead air space does not mean it will when wet. It i probably just more material to trap and hold a little more water next to your body - which you are trying to avoid.

What is refraction in a scuba mask?

Refraction is the bending of light, it occurs when a light ray enters/passes through an object that is less/more dense than the atmosphere around it.

When should one not learn scuba dive?

most training agencies suggest that SCUBA be taught after 9years of age and should not be engaged in for one is a heavy smoker or has respiratory problems. Scuba is a high stress anaerobic activity. Anyone at risk of heart disease or arterial sclerosis should not participate. This is not medical advice. Please consult a doctor before engaging in SCUBA diving. also: if they don't want to.... too many divers start SCUBA diving to be with somebody they care for, (husband, girlfriend, etc) but have no desire to actually SCUBA dive.

Why when scuba diving why do they equalise their ears and how do they do it?

There are several, already answered questions on this subject.

Scuba-divers have to equilize their ears during decent, because the middle ear doesnt automatically pressurize (unlike other body parts, like sinuses).

This is done by covering/squeezing ones nose using the thumb and index finger, and gently blowing air out your nose. The air, not being able to escape through the nose, will be redirected to the middle ear, thereby pressurizing it.

Can your body explode during scuba diving?

No. The closest equivalent thing that can happen is that if you hold your breath and ascend, the expanding air in your lungs will cause a lung expansion injury. The most serious of these are arterial gas embolism (when air is forced into the bloodstream) or pneumothorax (when the lung wall ruptures).

The amount of internal pressure taken to make a human body explode could only be created by pressuring the lungs and then inserting the person directly into a vaccum (for example, by ejecting them from a spacecraft).

How do you repair a scuba regulator?

This question cannot be answered as asked. What kind of damage has the regulator sustained? Was the first stage damaged? Or one of the 2nd stage mouth pieces? Without knowing, advice about how to repair the device cannot be offered with any degree of reliability.

In any event, I would strongly recommend that you do not attempt to repair a regulator on your own. Regulators are a precision piece of dive equipment and should not be repaired except by qualified technicians. Please ring your regulator to your dive shop and let a qualified person deal with the issue. Do Not attempt to repair the regulator on your own.

There is a mild current on your dive how you should begin your dive?

Always begin your dive against the current, so if you are tired or running low on air at the end of your dive you can use the current to help you get back to the boat or entry point. Of course, from the shore, this is not always possible, so budget more air if you have to to be able to stay along the bottom on the way back and avoid swimming against the current when tired.
