Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998. They created the search engine program while attending Stanford College and the two actually dropped out of their PhD studies to continue to work on what would later be known as Google.

You can always change the homepage you click that opens up first. This can be done in the settings option in Chrome.

Well this is how I did it:

If you have a Mac, you first have to decide what you want your new homepage to be (ex: Google). Then, you have to highlight the URL of your new homepage. After that, you drag the highlighted URL to the little house button on the upper right-hand corner and release. Click yes and you're done! I hope this helped and good luck!

In Sept 2005, google indexed about 8 billion pages. They stopped advertising their index size on their search page since then.

Alright. This largely depends on what you are trying to search for and what kind of search engine you're using.

With something like Google, I would add more qualifiers. For example, say I searched "Howl." I would get a lot of results. But if I searched "Allen Ginsberg Howl" I would get far less results, and I would get ones far more on topic. You can also use the Advanced Search option on google, which allows you to eliminate certain words or look for website in certain countries.

Also, using quotation marks around a title or two words you want together will VASTLY limit your results. For example, if I'm trying to find the book "A Separate Peace" typing it with those quotation marks won't just search for all those words, but those words in that precise order.

If you are looking for information that is more academic or specific, you might want to try using a different kind of search engine. At you local library, a librarian can help you search for an academic text or academic information. You can search certain academic databases if you're a college student, for example.

Depends on the toolbar you wants to add. However, toolbars are usually placed on the top of the browser. I think the task bar doesn't accept shortcuts for toolbars.

Sergey Brin met at Stanford University, Sergey was in with a group of students who were assigned to show Larry around. The two graduate students in computer science argued about everything and anything. The two never agreed on anything, no matter what the topic was. The pair had strong opinions and divergent viewpoints, which would later lead them to solving one of computing's biggest challenges. Larry and Sergey retrieved information from a massive set of data.

Larry and Sergey begun collaboration on a search engine in January 1996 called BackRub. The name came from its unique ability to analyze black links, pointing to a given website. Larry who loved machinery gained notoriety for building a working printer out of Lego's. Larry also took on the challenge of creating a new server environment that used inexpensive computers. The pair was low on cash so they started tracking down loading docks to see if they could borrow these newly arrived computers. They needed these computers so they could start working on their new network. A year later news started spreading around campus about Larry and Sergey. Their approach to link analysis with BackRub was earning them publicity among those who have seen it.
