How is the earth tilted when it is winter in the northern hemisphere?

Yes and in the winter, spring and fall also, just from different posiitons. You may be thinking of the tilt in the earth's axis, which is 23.5 degrees. During our summer in the northern hemisphere, the north pole is tilted toward the sun, and it is winter at that time in the southern hemisphere. When it is summer in the southern hemisphere, the south pole is tilted toward the sun, and it is winter at that time in the north. We in the north are surprised to learn that the earth itself is a little closer to the sun during our winter. It is winter for us because the northern pole is pointed away from the sun. The tilt of the axis is what causes the seasons, not the earth's actual distance from the sun.

How hot it can get in summer?

I just took my infrared thermometer outside to take a reading on the asphalt. The outdoor temp at 7:30 pm was 89 degrees. The asphalt (lighter in color) was 116 degrees. I was curious about the asphalt because my husband and I went on a ride to Andersonville, GA with Harley Davidson-Newnan and the temps were 106 degrees that day. We drove into patches that we estimated @ 125 degrees (personally, I think it was hotter). I really wish I had my gun with me. I actually started feeling sick and had to drink gatoraid and water and stop every 30 minutes to cool down in Air Conditioning.

The General Thermometer cost about 39.00 @ Lowes and it is priceless as I am a LEED AP and talk about Home Comfort Testing and the need for weatherization in my work. Being able to show the actual temps of, for example, light bulbs, drives home the point of using LED lights. For example: Regular light bulbs read 100 degrees and chandelier bulbs (all on all day) read 212 degrees. It still blows my mind. Fun tool. Every teacher (parents qualify) and every Realtor, Builder, and Home Owner should own one.

How long does summer last in Hawaii?

I was just looking for this... the google-consensus is that it is in fact a tropical biome with a 12-month growing season.

The only confirmation I got was a USDA Agriculture pdf, which mentions it offhand, and a blog based out of Hilo, Hawaii.

it is in fact 12 months im in a home schooling program and it was one of my projects.

Why do paved roads damage more in the winter rather than in the summer?

Paved roads tend to experience more damage in the winter due to a phenomenon called freeze-thaw cycles. When water seeps into cracks in the pavement and freezes, it expands, causing the cracks to widen. As temperatures fluctuate, the repeated freezing and thawing weakens the pavement, leading to potholes and other forms of damage. Additionally, the use of de-icing salts can contribute to the deterioration of the road surface.

How does the shark change in different season?

Sharks do not change physically in different seasons. However, their behavior and migration patterns may vary depending on the season and water temperature. Some species of sharks may move to warmer waters during colder seasons or to breeding grounds during mating season.

What happens to the green stuff in leaves in the fall?

The green pigment in leaves is chlorophyll, which breaks down in the fall due to changes in light and temperature. As the chlorophyll breaks down, other pigments that were present in the leaf but masked by the green chlorophyll become visible, leading to the beautiful array of fall colors.

What season is London England right now?

-easons are split by hemisphere. So if the southern hemisphere is in winter, the northern hemisphere is summer, and vice versa. Right now 10-9-13 the northern hempishere is in fall, though soemtimes its as hot as summer.

Why will Maryland have no seasons if the earth was not tilted?

Maryland would not have distinct seasons if the Earth was not tilted on its axis because the tilt of the Earth is what causes the variation in sunlight intensity throughout the year. Without this tilt, there would be a consistent amount of sunlight reaching Maryland year-round, resulting in a lack of temperature variations that define the different seasons.

Which season does solor energy start to increase?

Energy from the Sun is constant. However, from any latitude on Earth, the tilt of the Earth's axis of spin means that the effective receipt of solar energy at that latitude will increase from the "winter" solstice for that latitude/hemisphere until the "summer" solstice latitude/hemisphere. Officially this time period covers the seasons of "winter" (from the winter solstice to the vernal equinox) and "spring" (from the vernal equinox to the summer solstice).

What is the longest day in the tundra?

The longest day in the tundra is during the summer solstice, which occurs around June 21st. During this time, the tundra experiences near 24 hours of daylight, known as the midnight sun phenomenon. This extended period of sunlight supports plant growth and productivity in the tundra ecosystem.

What are names of the seasons at the North and South poles?

The seasons at the poles are spring, summer, fall and winter. Because the poles are in different hemispheres, the seasons are opposite. The dates that the seasons change is the same at both poles.

For example, when it is winter at the South Pole, it's summer at the North Pole.

What is the relationship between the inclination of the earth's axis and the length of days and nights?

During the middle of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, the North Pole is tilted towards the Sun. Because of this, the Sun shines upon a greater length of each line of latitude in the Northern Hemisphere, causing longer days and shorter nights. Above the Arctic Circle there will be 24 hours of sunlight and no nighttime at all.

The reverse will be happening in the Southern hemisphere at this time.

What is cool in summer and hot in winter?

The other side of the world, where they have winter when you have summer.

When does winter end in 2014?

March 20th 2014

The first day of Spring is always March 21st

- so winter ends the day before.

Why does a electric unit blow fuses periodically during the winter heating season?

This could be due to an overload on the circuit caused by additional heating demands during cold weather, resulting in blown fuses. You may need to upgrade your electrical system or redistribute the load to prevent this issue from recurring. Additionally, inspect for any faulty wiring or connections that could be contributing to the problem.

Why do polar patches disappear during the Martian summer?

Polar patches on Mars are made of carbon dioxide ice (dry ice) and when Mars experiences warmer temperatures in the summer, the ice sublimates directly from solid to gas. This causes the polar patches to disappear as the dry ice evaporates into the atmosphere.

Is the Earths rotational axis tilted 23.5 degrees to the plane of orbital rotation around the Sun?

Earth is tilted at 23.5 degrees. it is thought to be of an impact by a moon size object billions of years ago.

============================

Another take on the same question:

The Earth's axis is not parallel to anything else. The angle of 'tilt' depends on what

you're comparing it to. If you compare it to the perpendicular to the plane of Earth's

orbit, then the angle is about 23.5 degrees. It doesn't require an explanation, since

no planet has an axis that's perpendicular to the plane of its orbit, there's no reason

why it should, and the angle of 'tilt' is different for each planet.

What is the cause for different seasons in earth?

This is caused by the tilt of the earth's axis. The axis is tilted about 23.5 degrees away from the ecliptic-- the apparent plane containing the sun's path through the sky. Roughly like this: /, uneven land surfaces, earth's curved surface, and the spin of earth on its axis.
Tilt of the earth on its axis, a tear in the ozone, or the wind currents

What are seasons primarily caused by?

Seasons are caused by the tilt of the axis of rotation of the Earth, 23 and a half degrees to the plane of the ecliptic. This causes different hemispheres of the Earth to be tilted, either toward or away from the sun, at different times of year.

Is the longest day of the year the same date all over the world?

No. The length of daylight is tied to seasons. In the Northern Hemisphere (US, Canada, etc) that longest day will be 21 Jun. However, in he Southern Hemisphere(South of the equator-Australia, South America, Africa, etc) that will be the shortest day of the year.

Why does one hemisphere point toward the sun while the opposite points hemisphere points away from the sun?

This is due to the tilt of Earth's axis. As Earth orbits the sun, different parts of the planet receive varying amounts of sunlight based on the angle of the sun's rays hitting the Earth. This tilt causes one hemisphere to receive more direct sunlight (summer) while the opposite hemisphere receives less direct sunlight (winter).
