Maybe. Seroquel can cause significant drowsiness, as can Ambien (obviously). Due to the overlapping "side effects," this combination should only be used in patients for whom a doctor has determined that the benefits outweigh the risks. In other words, your doctor will determine if this is a safe combination for you. It may not be safe for all patients.

A doctor may avoid this combination in a frail patient of advanced age due to high risk of slip-and-fall type injuries. On the other hand, the psychological benefits may exceed the risks in a different patient. If your doctor has prescribed this combination, discuss any concerns with him or her. Do not discontinue your medicine except under the advice of a doctor or pharmacist.

-because you asked in a such a way that doesnt outright suggest suicide or the like, I'll answer. death from an overdose ( I'm assuming you mean overdosing, and not a freak allergic reaction) by Seroquel takes, from all the cases I've seen, at least 20,000 mg, and enough time for the person overdosing to either pass on or reach a point where if found, they cannot be saved.

Seroquel overdose causes a fairly gentle death, compared to what other overdoses do ( example: OD by something like Tylenol causes kidney and liver failure, and causes extreme pain before dying) With seroquel, you will see a deep drop in blood pressure, called hypotension, and an irregular heart beat, called arrhythmia. these usually happen during or just before the person entering a coma. if left in this state, the person will die. i called this gentle because there is little damage done to the body, and the person is almost always comatose during the most of it.

Bad idea. Depending on the amount you are taking, how long, and why there can be a number of withdrawls. Seroquel is a strong medicine, it is possible to quit, but this is best done slowly under the supervision of a psychiatrist.

I take Seroquel about 30 minutes before going to bed. I go to sleep very easily and am able to sleep approximately 7 hours till morning, I wake up but will go right back to sleep. I have never slept more than 3 hours a night unless with sleep medication till taking Seroquel. This is an unbelievable blessing. I am a 61 white male and have been diagnosed with Type 2 Bi Polar condition with chronic combat PTSD from the 1960's with Anxiety and Depression Disorders. I had a complete breakdown at 57 and ended up in the VA (they are awesome) there I was finally diagnosed correctly and given medications till I ended up with Seroguel and Zoloft. I take 200 mg at nighttime of Seroquel and 200 mg of Zoloft in the morning, which works very well for me. I am amazed how the medications take the edge off, it is a blessing to me and everyone around me appreciates it also. Mick

i used to take 400mg of seroquel before i went to the ment hospital they told me that was high and lowerd me to 300mg i would adive you stop taking it but first tell your doctor because 800mg is for really cazy people lol and u may need it

It all depends on what disorder it's prescribed for.

I'm on 800mg Seroquel for bi-polar (along with some others), and I feel ok.

If you're Schizophrenic, then the starting dose is usually 25mg twice a day, increasing to 400mg/day.

I would not advise adjusting your medications by yourself... should only be done under a dr's supervision.

*Whoever wrote this is insensitive and I would venture to say is making light and using the word "crazy" to compensate for insecurities regarding their own plight with mental illness. 800 mg. is described as the "working dose" for many severe cases of Bipolar disorder according to the psychiatrist that prescribed it to me. Crazy is a loose term. I have been diagnosed with Mixed Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Sever OCD, Anxiety Disorder, and Borderline Personality Disorder and I functioned for 29 years keeping everyone around me in complete dark that I suffered from any, let alone all of these. I saw a psychiatrist for the first time three weeks ago and honestly, to be told I was severely mentally ill was comical to me as well since I am smarter and more productive than 90% of the people I know. Mental Illness is not a downfall or a flaw, it is quite simply an adjective. Do not let people who are immature about it make you feel ashamed of being who you are and having the courage to seek a better life without being plagued with symptoms.

400 mg is by no means a high dose, it depends on what you are prescribed for, for Bi-Polar the dose is usually 300-400 max, for schizophrenia it is common to go up to 800 per day, I take 300 a day for Bi-polar, I have a friend who takes about 4 different types of meds a day, including 2400 mg of Seroquel, and no he doesn't sit in a corner drooling on himself

It must be a lot! There were reports of a man taking 200 100mg tablets who went into a week long coma and woke up in the psych ward.

The LD50 is extremely high I think about 4000mg/kg but I was unable to find a case similar to that

Personally Im helping a girl recover from about 6500mg of seroquel and over 100 tablets of Tylenol. Studies say half the Tylenol dose should have killed her, especially since she wasn't found an rushed by ambulance until ten hrs later. She was slightly coherent treatment started immediately and within two days she was pretty much herself again, except looking at time in psych. Tomorrow will be day three she is being discharged from cardiology.

For those of you trying to find a sure way to overdose, remember her story! She's only 24 135 lbs she might have some minor long term health issues but they say physically she's made a full recovery

Don't go thinking a bottle of pills will solve your problems... I can almost guarantee you'll just end up with more complications.

Based on my experience only, I take 200mg four times a day. With insurance I paid $50. I recently lost my job and insurance and the cost for my 30 day supply (120 pills) is $930 a month. Roughly about $8 a dose.

Yes. They are from different drug classes and have different effects. Wellbutrin is an anti-depressant of the Dopamine Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor class. Ativan is an anxyolitic drug and is a benzodiazepine. I use this combination - wellbutrin daily, and ativan as needed for anxiety and insomnia. It works well.

Update: I must disagree with the answer above (whoever wrote it). If you look up Bupropion (a.k.a. Wellbutrin) on Wikipedia, then scroll down to "Contraindications", it states clearly that Wellbutrin should not be taken with any type of benzodiazepine (which is what Lorazepam - a.k.a. Ativan - is). So you should absolutely talk this over with a doctor instead of asking the internet. You might just get an "I don't see why not" guess from someone who may not truly know the answer. Bottom line - talk to your doctor before taking those two together!

I gained 40 pds in three months on seroquel. With me the weight loss began immediatly as well as my hunger pains subsiding. I have been off of it for 2 months and have lost 30 pds. I have been taking seroquel for 5 years. Initially I gained 50 pounds, but after starting a healthy eating programme and gentle excercise the pounds are starting to come off.

I have a serious case of ocd and have been using prozac and seroquel for almost a year now. It is slowly starting to work, I was suicidal when I first went to the hospital and 9 months later I am half way across the country attending university. The honest answer is....they don't have a lot of information. That having been said, here's what IS known: untreated bipolar disorder or schizophrenia can have a very negative effect on the fetus, and that is well documented. Studies of seroquel on pregnant rats and dogs showed low birth weight and miscarriage risk, but these only showed up at doses FAR higher than the highest human dose. Your Dr. and yourself will need to work together to make the best choice for you. Remember, you are a person, too, whose needs also have to be taken into consideration. There is no special danger from taking these drugs together. However, Seroquel is very damaging to the brain. It will probably leave you worse off in the long run than if you had never taken it. It can cause tardive dyskinesia, a form of brain damage similar to Parkinson's where you shake and your body moves uncontrollably. This happens to as many as 20% of people who take Seroquel or other antipsychotics for a long time, and once you have it nothing can be done, it's a permanent condition.

Antipsychotics like Seroquel are mostly used to control behavior that society finds undesirable, not for the benefit of the patient. Unless it is being prescribed for schizophrenia, I would think long and hard about taking it.

My mother is 86 and normally takes paxil, she had a flair up of her artheritis so her doctor gave her some cyclobenzaprine 10mg. She also takes some high blood pressure meds, i began giving her the cyclo, after her 3rd dose her BP went so low she passed out. I called 911 her BP was 96/48 and she normally has high BP, they took to the emergency room. After a scare and a few hours she was back to normal, after running all their tests everything with her was fine. Their conclusion was, it was the CLYCLOBENZAPRINE interaction that caused this, i would be very careful if you all mixing these two drugs!!!

Seroquel is the initial version of the drug, Seroquel XR is a sustained-release version useful because you will only need to take one dose daily as opposed to multiple doses of plain Seroquel.
Seroquel XR means extended release while Seroquel refers to the ordinary one.
