Are Ellen White's writings more important than the scriptures?
No. This is the accepted position of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Ellen White's writings: "The writings of Ellen White are not a substitute for Scripture. They cannot be placed on the same level. The Holy Scriptures stand alone, the unique standard by which her and all other writings must be judged and to which they must be subject" (Seventh-day Adventists Believe . . . ,Ministerial Association, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Washington D.C., 1988, p. 227). Ellen White herself says: "God will have a people upon the earth to maintain the Bible, and the Bible only, as the
standard of all doctrines and the basis of all reforms. The opinions of learned men, the
deductions of science, the creeds or decisions of ecclesiastical councils, as numerous and
discordant as are the churches which they represent, the voice of the majority...not one
nor all of these should be regarded as evidence for or against any point of religious faith.
Before accepting any doctrine or precept we should demand a plain "Thus saith the Lord'
in its support" (Great Controversy, p. 595).

11 Now I know that the LORD is greater than all other gods, for he did this to those who had treated Israel arrogantly." 3 "You shall have no other gods before [a] me. 13 "Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips. 14 Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. 35 You were shown these things so that you might know that the LORD is God; besides him there is no other. 39 Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. 7 "You shall have no other gods before [a] me.
Actually, they don't. Seventh-day Adventists teach that only a few people have gone to heaven to this point in earth's history: Enoch and Elijah without dying, and Moses and Jesus after being resurrected. The rest of those who have died have ceased to exist until they are resurrected, as if they were asleep (the term for this concept is "soul sleep"). After Christ's coming, when the dead in Christ will be resurrected, all the saved will go to heaven for 1000 years. At the end of the 1000 years, God, the saved, and the New Jerusalem will come to earth. Then the lost will be resurrected and will be fooled by Satan into trying to take the city, but Satan, his angels, and all the lost will be destroyed at that time, and God will make the earth the new center of his government. That's when God's kingdom will be on earth, and that is when God will truly dwell with men.
Why do Adventists teach that? Because it is in the Bible, in the book of Revelation.
Having prayer sessions with other employees can be perfectly acceptable is this does not impact on work performance, provided that no one feels pressured to participate. Pressure can be implicit, such as the fear of social rejection or the belief that promotion could depend on participation, but if all employees are Adventists, this is not an unsurmountable hurdle.
Can a Seventh-day Adventist have a reception on the Sabbath?
I have asked myself this question also, and have come to the conclusion through study and family guidance that, as a Seventh-day Adventist, a reception would not be advisable on the Sabbath, because the things that people do during receptions such as dancing and celebrating the couple and worldly traditions are not really Sabbath activities, and because the focus is not on God.

When I see that people attack others it is usually FEAR. Fear is the response to misunderstanding. When you don't know enough about motive or basis for belief attacks occur in nature and humans. Even though I am not Adventist I take the same stand that Joseph at the Sanhedrin did. If it is true and wise time will prove it right or wrong. Bless you in your own faith journey.
