Who holds the womens world record in the shot put?

Grab a 16 pound metal ball, stand inside a 7 foot circle, rest the ball between your neck and shoulder and push your arm straight out with the thumb pointing down, don't forget to let go of the ball or as the pros call it, the shot. Now if your name was Randy Barnes and you were from the USA and you were in Westwood, California on May 20, 1990 and you followed the instructions above, then your shot would have flown exactly 23.12 meters, which would have been enough to give you the record for the world's longest shot put. The world's longest shot put for a female was set by Helena Fibingerová of Czechoslovakia on February 19, 1977 at 22.50 meters, but we must add that the women's shot weighs only 8.8 pounds.

How many officials requried in shot put event?

User Avatar

Asked by AzadShah

usually for a shot put event, you will need at least 1 official and 2 other people. The official will usually be the person calling the names, watching the throw for any fouls, and recording the distances. The 2 other individuals will be used in the following way:

  • 1 will be used to hold the measuring tape at the circle. Which is then measured from the back of the toe board
  • the other will be used to pull the measuring tape out to the location the shot put landed.

sometimes the event will be done by only 2 people. The person recording the distance and calling names will also hold the measuring tape at the back of the toe board and then record the distance.

What is the average shot put distance for a 12 year old boy in feet?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Around 10 meters I guess.

My closest friend in my school who is 11yr can throw a 15 meter, but he won the record for 12yr in Singapore so that might be an unusual exception. I'm a girl and I threw a 9.41 meter so yeah, I think the average for a boy is around 10 meters.

Average for girl 12yr: around 8 meters

Average for boy 12yr: 9, 10 meters

Rules in playing the game on discus throw?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Detailed rules differ by state, but here are some general rules. The thrower is forbidden from stepping out of the circle until the official gives him clearance. Some areas allow the thrower to step ON the line as long as he is not OVER the line, but in many areas stepping on the line disqualifies the thrower. The discus must land within the two lines that form the throwing sector. If it lands outside of the line, it is called a scratch-aka it doesn't count. This is another area where the rules change depending on where you are- in some places the throw will count if the disc lands on the line; in other places that throw would be a scratch.

What is the best technique in shot put?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The heavy metal ball (shot) is cradled in one hand against the side of the neck. The thrower assumes a semi-crouch, then turns or spins to gain momentum. At the proper point, he uncrouches to full height, pushing the shot forward with the entire body as the arm extends straight from the shoulder, to thrust it outward and upward. This "explosion" of bodily motion imparts the necessary velocity to the shot.

What equipment do you need in shotput?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

All that is really needed to throw the javelin in terms of equipment is an appropriately weighted javelin.

Depending on the level of competition an athlete is engaging in, their respective bodily needs as determined by the strain they subject their body to during delivery, and the environment in which they will be throwing, other equipment might be necessary.

In terms of environment, track/runway surfaces vary. Ideally, javelin throwers wear javelin boots, which have spikes located on the front of the foot (essentially the same position as a runner's spikes) along with spikes on the heel. The spikes needed depending on the runway. Some surfaces require short, ceramic spikes (mondo) and others, especially grass runways, require longer spikes to prevent slippage. It is also recommended that javelin throwers bring towels to dry off javelin handles in inclement weather and a brush of some sort to clean grass or dirt out from between the spikes of the javelin boots.

If a javelin athlete has pre-existing injuries or experiences soreness when throwing the javelin, certain braces are recommended to prevent injury. The most common is a structured back brace, built to aid the arch of the thrower's back during delivery while preventing over extension or stain. Knees and elbows are other common sites for braces or taping.

Finally, high level athletes typically use grip chalk (like weight lifters or shot putters) to enhance their grip on the implement, but this is certainly not an essential piece of equipment.
