The JC Higgins 101.40 is a version of the Savage/Stevens 940/947 series. Should be a single-shot shotgun. Made probably in the 1960's, value definitely tops out at $100. sales@countrygunsmith.net

This is an interesting story. The gun IS Belgian, and it is a 'C Parker', but it is NOT a Browning. Has nothing to do with Browning. In the late 1800's, from about 1880 through 1910, various major distributors such as the HD Folsom Company imported thousands of inexpensive shotguns from Europe (primarily Belgium) for sale by the various large mail-order catalog hardware stores of the time. Sears sold them, for instance. They had neat names designed to impress the typical unsophisticated Midwest or frontier buyer, such as "The Interchangeable." Some retailers wanted to play on the more established gunmaker names so we see these shotguns marked with "SAM HOLT" (not Sam Colt, even though Colt Firearms were never marked that way), "BARKER" instead of Parker, and "C PARKER" (also to confuse with Charles Parker and subsequent Parker Brothers). Parker Brothers shotguns and the early Charles Parker shotguns are considered some of the finest American made shotguns ever and are highly collected well into the six-figure price range. Your gun, however, is NOT one of these. On the underneath of the barrels, between the barrels and the frame, you should see the telltale 'ELG' proofmark indicating Belgian manufacture. The finish on the barrels is probably NOT actually Damascus, but a version of twist construction. Value is as a decorator piece only - these guns are universally considered unsafe to shoot. $200 or so, if in top condition. sales@countrygunsmith.net

The Auto & Burglar shotgun was an Ithaca product, not an Iver Johnson. It was a double barrel 20ga pistol made from 1922-1934. Typically had 10" barrels. These guns are considered 'Any Other Weapons' under the National Firearms Act, and although registered and "papered" specimens can be worth $1000 or more, UNregistered guns are contraband and can not be possessed nor sold. sales@countrygunsmith.net

I suspect this is a foreign firearm imported by that company. Unless it is some special target rifle, a 22 single shot is probably only going to bring $75 to $100 in used condition.

That is a Belgian proofmark, but would need to know the other markings on the gun in order to identify it.

it's probably a model 5100. the tenite (plastic stock and forend) as it was called was likely made sometime around wwII, because of a shortage of wood built gunstocks and forends

I lived in Glendale Arizona in the late 1980's, left in 1995. During this time I lived around 59th and Glendale avenue, at which time our house was broken into during the day, and this Stevens over under .410 was stolen, along with a single shot .410, a .22 automatic. The Stevens was a bit unique because BOTH barrels were .410, it had two opposing hammers, and two triggers, one behind the other. Because this was my fathers gun, it has a special place in my Heart. I am interested in buying it if anyone has any knowledge of its whereabouts. THANKS, DOUG

It is a Winchester 101, made in Japan. Depending on condition, $600-$800.

When properly maintained and operated, they are as safe as any shotgun. They have a good reputation as a reliable firearm.
