How do you take care of cedar bushes?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Checking irrigation schedules, employing pest controls and pruning dead branches describe what to do with brown cedar branches. Location and pattern identifies the problem and its solution since one-sided and upper canopy browning speak of shallow roots in respective need of root rot-fighting fungicides and of drought-fighting supplementary irrigation. Horticultural oils against eggs and insecticidal soaps and miticides against adult spider mites and weevils resolve clumped bark- and branch-browning while pruning takes care of the scattered browning of old growth prefatory to replacement by new growth.

What is the Growth rate of butterfly bush?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Butterfly bush is a very hardy and woody shrub. It grows at a fairly fast rate if it's happy in it's environment. Ordinary garden soil should be fine. The old fashioned purple butterfly bush is very hardy and drought tolerant and blooms from spring on through late summer in either full sun or part shade. I have several varieties of butterfly bushes and find the yellow butterfly bush is the slowest growing. The old fashioned purple is about 5 years old is about 6-7 feet tall. The yellow is still the same height as when I bought it about 3 years ago. I live in the upper south and prune the butterfly bush in the early spring, about when the forsythia blooms. It seems to produce healthy, long lasting flowers and is a favorite in my garden with butterflies and hummingbirds. I think in good garden conditions, you'll see a moderately fast grower, about 3-4 in diameter, if not more.

How do you care for a dwarf poinciana tree?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Dwarf douglas fir pine trees are cared for the same as a regular douglas fir tree. The only difference is that in maturity trimming should be done more often and smaller amounts taken off each time due to the overall size of the tree will never get large. General rule of thumb for any tree is never trim more than 25% of the trees leaves off. This will stress out the tree and regrowth will be more difficult. Do not fertilize the tree in the first year. Water the tree daily for the first week then cut back on watering until it can grow on its own. Feed the tree with an acid feed. I usually pick it up at home depot and is a product from Miraclegrow called Miracid. You should do the feeding once in the fall and once in the spring.

How do you prune a snowball bush?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, Once the shrubs reach the desired height you trim them to maintain there shape and size. Remember that you are dealing with a slow growing shrub and if you get to aggresive with the trimming it will take some time for the shrub to heal if it can at all. I would trim them twice per year spring and fall and remove no more than 1"- 2" at a time.

In the spring do you cut down ornamental grasses?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, ornamental grasses should be cut or clipped to the ground in late winter/early spring, just before they begin putting on their new growth. Waiting until later to cut them will not inhibit their new growth. Cutting back old growth will clip the new growth leaving straight edges on the new growth blades.

They can be pruned back in fall, too. Waiting for late winter/early spring allows the birds and other wildlife to eat the seeds from the plumes and ornamental grasses are attractive garden plants for winter interest.

Can you grow daphne in a flower pot versus the ground?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can, but it will be very important to find some way to keep the pot cool. Daphne require a cool root run, which is sometimes hard to manage with containers. Try placing other pots closely around the pot the Daphne is growing in, so that they keep the pot shaded. Also, be sure that your pot has superb drainage - porous potting soil, lots of drainage holes, raised off the ground by something that allows water to run through freely. Daphnes die quickly of root rot if their soil isn't exceptionally well-drained.

Can you grow roses from rose hips?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can technically grow roses from seed but the probability of getting a good result is fairly low. They are often fairly weak and non-descript.Commercially- new varieties are usually propagated vegetatively or from an exceptionally vigorous or unusual seedling produced from thousands of seedlings. But it's always fun to have a try-if you select seedlings for vigour and eliminate any that show negative characteristics you never know if you will produce one of the world's most amazing roses or just something lovely just for you to enjoy.
