Well this is such an awesome part of Skype. You have IM then Free Calling to other Skype Users which you add and then they are automatically listed in your Contacts on your Skype Page. All you have to do is log on to your account, see who else is online and press the green button after clicking on their Username in the contact list.
This calls them and if they pick up then 'there you go', you can have a nice long talk over the internet absolutely FREE! Of course, you are paying the Internet Bill still, so that is the only Fee.
