Could sleep Apnea cause high level of hemoglobin?
High Hemoglobin would allow you to carry more oxygen. so i don't think it would cause fatigue.
High hemoglobin can most definitely cause fatigue. I thought the same as the above answer until I was diagnosed with it BECAUSE of fatigue. But as is the case many times, too much of a good thing is bad for you. Causes are varied, from blood disorders to living in high altitude to simply not getting enough sleep (or not sleeping well such as if you have sleep apnea).
It can also be dangerous as it can clog your arteries if not kept in check. See your doctor!!
Do people with sleep apnea always snore at night?
Yes they do. People with Sleep Apnea often have a decrease in stage REM therefore they may not dream as often. REM sleep is often considered our dream stage. It is also our restorative sleep. Just because you don't remember your dreams doesn't mean that you did not dream. If you wake during REM stage you will remember what you were just dreaming. If you do not wake during REM but wake in a different stage of sleep (example stage 3) then you probably won't remember having a dream.

Does Vyvanse affect sleep apnea?
Effexor XR increases serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain. Serotonin makes people sleepy, and norepinephrine wakes them up. Since everybody's brain is wired differently, Effexor might make one person sleepy while waking up another person. Sleep apnea is a disorder in which a person stops breathing over and over again during the night. Because of this, the person does not get a restful sleep. As a consequence, during the day he is very sleepy. Some people with sleep apnea are so sleepy during the day that they doze off while driving their cars. Thus, sleep apnea is a potentially fatal disease. Sleep apnea can be treated with CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure), a device which has a mask which is worn all night long, and keeps the person's throat open with air pressure so that the person does not stop breathing while sleeping. If a patient is taking Effexor, and it tends to make that particular patient sleepy, and the patient has sleep apnea, and the sleep apnea is not being treated, then the Effexor is potentially dangerous for that patient to take. It will make him even more sleepy during the day, and might even increase the frequency of his apneic episodes during the night. If Effexor makes the patient more alert, on the other hand, it might be beneficial. However, Effexor does not affect the mechanism that causes the person to stop breathing during the night. So it is not a treatment for sleep apnea.
Can lack of sleep cause weight gain?
Eating too soon before sleeping definatly causes weight gain, and actually a lack of sleep contributes to weight gain as well. Your body essentially resets itself after a minimum of 7 hours of sleep, including rebalancing your metabolism. It is best to see your primary care physician first and have him refer you for sleep study and go from there.
Does hypertension cause sleep apnea?
Yes Sleep apnea can cause very high blood pressure. Before I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, I had fairly high blood pressure, and having used the CPAP machine which supplies a positive air force into the nose and lungs have allowed my blood pressure to come down remarkably. When you have uncontrolled or undiagnosed sleep apnea, it causes the heart to work quite hard, and increases the risk of getting a heart attack if it is not treated. So if you're experiencing fairly high blood pressure, and the doctor doesn't know why, then ask them about a sleep lab test, or a home sleep test, and that should be able to tell them whether or not you have this disorder.

Who really knows why we get Sleep Apnea, the better question may be...What causes Sleep Apnea? Sleep Apnea, simply occurs because your airway closes while you are trying to sleep! There are many stages of sleep that we drift in and out of. The stages that we are inclined to get our best sleep, the restorative sleep that we all need to feel good, can also cause our muscles to relax and subsequently closing our airway, causing what is called an arousal. This however is only one way this occurs...if you were to look at he throats of many people with Sleep Apnea, you would see that there throats almost seem small or closed, as opposed to some people you could see all the way down their throat, into their lungs almost! The point being that if you have a throat that is more closed than open, you may have a greater chance of having Apneas. The best way to determine why you may have Sleep Apnea is to have a Sleep Test done by a qualified professional. Not being treated for Sleep Apnea could be very serious to your good health!

Discuss with a pulmonologist what are the causes and treatments for specific forms of sleep apnea.
Why do you stop breathing while asleep?
Our bodies need oxygen every single minute of every single day of our lifes (whether your awake or asleep). If we stopped breathing while we are asleep 2 things will happen: 1. Carbon dioxide levels in our bodies will increase (it is essential to get rid of this carbon dioxide gas from our body) and 2. Without oxygen, the cells in our body will stop working and as a result our organs and eventually our systems will all shut down. If this happens, death will result.

The most common solution to Sleep Apnea is CPAP therapy. CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. This is a machine that produces pressurized air into a hose that is connected to a nasal mask, full face mask, or nasal pillows. A person will wear this mask while they sleep to open up the airway so they will breathe normally through the night. When using Cpap a person with Sleep Apnea can lead a normal, fulfilling life full of energy and without fatigue.

Can rubbing alcohol be injected into the neck for sleep apnea?
I had an ENT offer to do a procedure on me, where an injection of alcohol was shot into the little flap that hangs down causing sleep apnea. I have been asking around trying to find someone that has heard of this procedure since, the ENT has moved out of town, but can not find anyone that has heard of it.
Can you scent your cpap water?
Scenting the water in the humidifier is not recommended. You want to keep the water chamber as "sterile" as possible. Meaning you want to keep if free from as many outside contaminants as possible. These contaminants can cause build up over time which can then lead to bacteria growth that is then introduced into the air that is breathed.
However there are several companies out there that sell products which can be scented and placed near the air filter intake, which will scent the air that you breathe. This is called aromathearapy. This should be discussed with your physician or respiratory therapist prior to using though because there may be reasons not use on a patient by patient basis.
Lastly, if you do use aroma therapy, be sure to check the air filters often. They may need to be changed more frequently. Also I would recommend staying on top of your tubing. Cleaning it at least weekly and replacing every 2-3 months as needed.
