Slugs and Snails

Mollusca is a phylum of animals, just as Chordata (our phylum) is. It's a group with wonderful variety, including animals that don't even have brains (clams and oysters), through those with very simple ones (snails and slugs) to creatures some scientists suspect are as smart as dogs or monkeys (cuttlefish and squid).

Though there are many aquatic species of slugs that can sting, I have yet to find a species of slug that is poisonous. The poison that people use to kill the slugs in their garden is actually what you should worry about as it is toxic to cats and dogs.

Snails are only scared of a human if they don't handle them right, i have 10 snails soon to be lots more and at first they were scared of me but as i handled them a little more they had gotten used to me and come out of their shell pretty much as soon as i pick them up! I'm not aware of any reliable field test for age. Size is not simply a function of age contrary to popular opinion.

Some of the older salamanders I have seen have skin that looks "puffy", but that could be a condition not related to age.

Well, depending on whether it's a aquatic snail or land snail, I'd say put in soil with lettuce or cabbage leaves in your snail's home if it's a land snail, and fill the tank with pebbles/sand and water as well as seaweed or lettuce for an aquatic snail.

Unfortunately, there has been a foolish and sad answer to this question from a troll. Anyway, the answer is that they will hatch in 2 to 4 weeks depending on temperature and species.

Yes, if you crush them completely. If however, you just crush a tiny bit of the shell, the snail will be injured, suffer, and most probably die a slow and painful death (as pieces of the shell can penetrate the snail). If you only crush a tiny bit of the shell then the chayton snail will not die.

Yes......at least I think.....I'm trying it out as I speak. I went to petco to get one bottom feeder and left with a bottom feeder and a tiny baby fish named little Fry. We put him in a little fish bowl that gets dirty quickly so we bought a snail. Everything should be fine cause snails eat alagae and stuff not baby fish :-)

You should be able to see the eggs on the glass near the waterline. the eggs are laid slightly out of the water so that other fish and such do not eat them but they need to remain wet. In the wild the changing levels of the river or lake would take care of this. The egg cases will usually be clear, and although they may jiggle, DO NOT attempt to pull them off.
