What does it mean when a snail has black lines in the middle of its shell?
If you have a pet snail, or have seen a snail in your garden with crust on the hole of it's shell, well, first, good job at being so observant! What you have discovered is a snail in hibernation! Yes, believe it or not, snails do hibernate. Like bear, squirrel, and bobcats, some snails fatten up in the summer and burrow down in the dirt to escape the cold winter months. The snail will sustain itself on the extra fat they've stored. Once the snail has burrowed down, it (most snails are girl and boy at the same time, like flowers) will make a white, crusty layer over the opening of it's shell. HAve you ever noticed a trail of slime behind a snail? They use that mucus to cover the opening of their shell, and then it hardens. When Spring comes, the snail can simply knock the crust out with their head, and enjoy the world once again. Sometimes, a snail will go into a slight hibernation, called estivation, when condtitions are not the best for them. Then, the mucus coat will stay moist and not harden.
depends on you and the snail. Maybe you get a reaction, maybe not.

What do you feed baby garden snails?
Previous answer:
Not usually no.
Improved answer:
Actually, I have a betta fish. I keep snails in with the betta to keep the tank clean that way I don't really have to change the tank at all. Supposedly, the snails eat the algae and my snails eat what's left of the fish food that the betta doesn't eat. I used to have 2 snails in the same tank. They made love and had somewhere along the lines of 5 to 10 babies. One of the two died because he/she climbed out of the tank for some reason, and he/she dried up and died. So it's just that one snail left with all the children. Today, I wanted to see what happens if he/she eats the leftover fish food, but instead of going after the fish food, he/she decided to go after one of his/her babies. I poked his/her shell, and he/she shriveled up into his/her shell. I fished him/her out of the tank and separated him/her from his/her babies. I put him/her in a brand new tank. Later, it's going to contain a female betta so I can mate the male and female at some point. You're probably wondering what's up with the his/her-he/she bit. I don't know which one was the male, and which one was the female. Probably never will.
What does snail poo look like?
I'll try my best to answer your question. My son has collected about 7 or 8 snails that we keep in a big plastic container. I see it on the sides of the container ( and unfortunately one of them pooped on my son's hand lol). It looks like a thin line in the shape of a coil, or line depending on how or what way they are moving. I hope this makes some kind of sense to you. Too bad I can't show you a pic lol.
Is a snail a non living thing?
Snails are animals. They are gastropod animals, which means "stomach foot." Gastropod animals move around by crawling on their bellies (not really their stomach), and have muscular bodies. Some of them, like snails, make a shell around their bodies for protection. Slugs are a kind of snail that doesn't have a shell.
What is the symbiotic relationship between a hookworm and puppies?
Hookworm infection can be looked at as a natural check in the canine population as it is frequently lethal to young puppies. A young puppy is growing and that includes making enough new blood to serve not only its needs but the needs of its growth. Growing requires a tremendous red blood cell production from the puppy's bone marrow, yet in the hookworm infected puppy this process is being sabotaged by numerous tiny vampires within. The puppy may be effectively bled to death.
This form of symbiotic relationship is parasitism; a relationship in which one organism - the host - is the source of food and/or shelter for another organism, the parasite. In this relationship, all of the benefits go to the parasite; the host is harmed by the relationship.

How do snails make there shell?
Snails are born with their shell. As the snail grows, so does its shell -- in a spiral shape. New shell is added at the opening of the shell by the mantle. In the center of the spiral is the part of the shell that the snail began life with.
The shell is made from several layers. The thin outer layer is made from an organic substance known as conchiolin. The thicker layer underneath is formed from three layers of crystalline calcium carbonate, similar to the chicken egg of which you may be more familiar. The color of the shell depends on the types of food the snail is eating and also the type of snail.
Can freshwater lake snails eat sand?
Yes. Malaysian Trumpet Snails live in and on top of sand substrates. While most snails will crawl happily over the sand, Malaysian Trumpet Snails will burrow through it. They don't burrow much if at all in gravel, which is too large to easily push aside.
Much debris - fish mulm, food scraps, etc. - accumulates on top of the sand, more than accumulates on top of gravel. Snails have better access to debris as a food source on a sand surface than they do on gravel, which allows much of the debris to fall through. MTS feed on what they find below the sand's surface as well on top and turn over the sand as they burrow, which keeps the sand aerobic and "live."
Bonus: MTS don't disturb the roots of any plants rooted in the substrate.
No one knows exactly why they do it, they just like to burrow and is no harm whatsoever.
How far can a deer slug travel?
As far as it is pushed or jumps is how far a slug falls. The land-based, shell-less gastropod mollusc in question will have no way of stopping itself from free-falling -- for whatever reason or from no matter what height -- once gravity kicks in.
