The first softball game was played on Thanksgiving Day in 1887. They players played inside of a gym at Farragut Boat club, located in Chicago, IL. The believed inventor of softball is George Hancock.

There is a glove made just for this purpose. It looks like a batting glove that has a good amount of padding. It's referred to as a catchers protective inner glove.

If the pitcher drops the ball while contacting the rubber or in her motion it is called an illegal pitch. The batters' count will be given a ball and if a runner is on base they are allowed to advance to the next base.

It is 60 feet from home to first on a softball field. It is the same distance between all the bases. The pitcher's mound is 40 to 43 feet way depending on the level of competition. The depth of the outfield varies from field to field.

Softball is a derivative of baseball, so it helps if you've played that sport. Slow pitch softball is far easier for a beginner than fast pitch, both from hitting and defensive perspectives. If you're a novice to softball, the easiest positions to play are on the right side of the field: first base, second base and right field. If you're an inexperienced player, avoid playing the left side of the infield where balls tend to come on the fielder faster and more often. Also avoid pitching. In softball, the pitcher is only 45 ft from home plate, balls tend to get hit up the middle often and reaction times need to be lightning quick.

Have the child raise his or her hand and place the mitt on the hand making sure that each one of the child's fingers goes into a finger slot in the glove.

Girls softball started in Chicago in 1887 when George Hancock and a couple other guys pulled out some boxing gloves and an old broom stick after a football game and drew a chalk line to make a dimond inside of the football field.

A two out rally is where the team hitting is struggling with two outs against them and they start yelling two out rally, that gets everyonr pumed up and makes everyones blood flow faster. So in that case they try to get alot of runs with two outs against them! Good Luck and I hope I hellped!

1) You make fair contact with the ball, and either ground-out or fly-out. 2) You take your lead to early (before the ball is released from the pitchers hand) and the base umpire catches you. 3) You strike out. 4) You foul tip the ball into the catchers glove 5) You run on a hit ball and the play is made at the bag you are attempting to advance to on a fielders choice. 6) You are running the base path and the hit ball hit you before it is fielded by the defense.

Throwing out the runner means that the batter hit the ball and a fielder fielded the ball and got the batter out running to first. It could also mean that the catcher threw the ball to second base when a girl was trying to steal and got her out. The same thing applies to third base.

To figure ERA take the total number of earned runs and multiply by 7 (which is a complete game in softball) then divide by innings pitched.

This may vary in the league you play in, but almost all 8U leagues use an 11" softball.
