You best method would be to use the stamp mount manufacturers measurements. Most provide a template that will allow you to match up your stamps with the proper size of mount and this is the most accurate way of getting the right size.

There were many half p stamps issued . It will take some detective work to narrow down the search. Use a catalog online or through your local library to identify the specific item. It will also provide an estimated value.

Pretty much nothing. You can purchase them from a dealer or on eBay for about $2 per cover or even less. They have almost no real gold, such a thin layer that it would take thousands of them to get a measurable amount.

The U.S. never minted a silver penny. It would have more than a dime's worth of silver in it. Your coin is almost certainly plated with a silver-colored metal. There are no 1-cent coins made in the US from silver. What you have is probably one of a few different but common possibilities: * If your coin is dated 1943, it's actually a wartime coin made from zinc-plated steel. In uncirculated condition it's worth a dollar or two. * If your coin is dated 1982 or later, it's probably a standard unplated coin. Cents made after 1982, as well as some of them made during 1982, are not pure copper, but are zinc coins plated with copper. Sometimes a coin will escape the Mint unplated, but more often than not the copper plating has been removed by being soaked in one of several possible liquids, including vinegar or automobile coolant (anti-freeze). These rarely have any extra value to collectors. * If your coin is dated before 1982 (or possibly a 1982) and has a dull finish, it's probably a standard cent coated or plated by a child with a variety of possible metals, including mercury. These have no extra value to collectors, and can be dangerous to handle at times, depending on the material with which it is coated/plated. If it's anything other than the above, it should be inspected and appraised by a reputable dealer or coin certification agency.

As for selling common stamps-- dealers do not buy them one at a time. They get them by buying collections or accumulations of hundreds of

stamps. They usually have all the common stamps they can sell because they get them along with the scarcer stamps.

If it is at least 20-30% off center and has the complete date, they sell for $3-$6. If it has more than just the off center, say a clip or a partial second strike the value goes up quickly.

There are some online stamp catalogs available. I often use the one by Mystic Stamps. They have put their paper catalog online and it includes information on how to determine condition. The values provide are those at which they are willing to sell the stamp. Buying will be a fraction of that value.

Amercan collectors would call that U.S. Scott number 3420. It has a catalog value of 20 cents, mint or used.
