Statistics

Statistics deals with collecting, organizing, and interpreting numerical data. An important aspect of statistics is the analysis of population characteristics inferred from sampling.

What causes a marble to reach the groud first if a feather and the marble accelerate at the same speed?

A marble is more dense and has less surface area, so it is not affected by air resistance as much as the feather.

Where do you find settings?

setting is related to things found around, or simply environment. In literature, broadly speaking, setting refers to time and place where events are actually happening.

What are the differences between Permutations and Combinations in algebra?

The only difference is that in a permutation the order of the elements matters whereas in a combination it does not.

How did pascal make pascal's triangle?

What is an example of the address of a set of data in a spreadsheet?

For example, to identify a rectangle that begins with cell A1 and extends down to cell D3, one address for the range would be A1:D3.

What does childless mean?

is defined as the condition of being without children. Childlessness may have personal, social and/or political significance. There are two distinguishable types of childlessness, voluntary and involuntary. Voluntary childlessness, also described as childfree, is a consequence of having made a decision not to reproduce. To be childless not by choice is defined as involuntary childlessness.

How many different ways can a number pair graph be used pair?

There are infinitely many ways to use graphs. Number pairs are used to define points in the Cartesian coordinate system, which is the most widely used type of graph.

What is the probability of picking a card o a 36deck game?

I suggest it is a certainty. Unless the purpose of the game is simply to keep looking at the deck of cards, someone, at some time, must pick up a card.

----------------

The probability of picking any particular card from a deck of 36 different cards is 1/36, or about 0.028.

What is the median middle NUMBER of days?

The answer depends on what the "NUMBER of days" refers to. Days in months, in school terms, in prison sentences, peoples' lives, whatever. And since have not provided that information, I cannot provide a sensible answer.

What are the uses of Mean Mode and Median?

The median would be used in preference to the arithmetic mean whenever a distribution is significantly skewed or data is difficult or expensive to measure. For example, salaries of employees, turnover of a large set of companies, time to destruction in tests of components.

The mode would be used in preference to the median as the most useful measure of location when the 'most common' or the 'most popular' item is required. For example number of customers in a queue, number of defects in a sample, sales of shirts by neck sizes.

The arithmetic mean would be used in preference to any other average in symmetric distributions or where further statistical calculations or analysis might be required. For example, number of items produced per day on a large assembly line, number of orders received per month for a firm.

Is standard deviation of say two different currencies comparable?

Well, yes and no. Sorry but there's a few "depends" in my answer. If I'm talking about shirts sold in the US and the UK, one set of data is in dollars and another set is sold in pounds and I've calculated means and standard deviations for both, I can convert the units, just like I do any conversions. The units for the mean and standard deviation are the same. So, if my mean shirt costs 15 pounds, and the standard deviation is 1.5 and there are 1.5 pound to every dollar, I can say the average cost of the shirt is 10 dollars with a standard deviation of 1 dollar. Of course the problem is, in many cases, the exchange rate is changing. If this is the case, I must, in the previous example, know how much each shirt cost in pounds and what the exchange rate was on the day it was purchased. The standard deviation can not be easily or correctly converted in this case. Now, in comparing the value of two currencies, the question is a bit more complicated, because we value a currency by its exchange to another currency. If I am comparing let say yen to dollars and yen to euro's, my units are different and a comparison is not proper. If an approximate dollars/ euro conversion factor can be used for the time series, then it is possible to have two comparable standard deviations on representing yen/dollars and a second one yen/dollars from convertd euros.
