How would you answer this question. Find the greatest number possible using these digits. 1 3 5 7?
Different ways to experiment:
- Try writing the digits in a different order, e.g. 3571 is greater than 1357.
(Could these digits be rearranged to make an even higher number?)
- Try adding the numbers together e.g. 35 + 71
- Try multiplying the digits in different ways, e.g. 1 x 357, 3 x 517 etc
- Try multiplying the numbers by themselves.
Example of using this method:
2 x 3 = 6
but 23 = 8 (23 means 2 multiplied by itself 3 times)
So we see that multiplying numbers 'with themselves' gives a greater answer than simply multiplying numbers with other numbers
Let's try this method with 1,3,5,7

(To make it fit neatly on the screen the number has been split and the commas marking the thousands have been omitted)
These are only a few suggestions. Try different ways of using the given numbers. Who knows, you may be able to find an even greater number than the example given above!
How many two-digit even numbers can be composed from nine digits 1 2 3 9?
The second digit can be 2,4,6, or 8.
There are 4 ways of choosing the second digit. The first digit can be chosen from the remaining 8 digits.
8x4 = 32 numbers.
Here, it is assumed that the numbers do not repeat
How many Wichita Kansas blocks equal a mile?
its 14 blocks total distence of 5280 ft. Each block is 377.142587 ft long.
What is the probability of rolling a ten with a pair of number cubes?
assuming a pair of dice...
4 possibilities out of 36 total possible results are:
4,6
6,5
5,5
5,5
So P(10) = 4/36
An oracle is someone who has great knowledge. They can give prophesies with high authority. Such as the Oracle at Delphi.
You will get the greatest product if you choose the greatest possible numbers in both cases, i.e., 9 x 99.
How many feet are there in 3.4 kilometers?
3.4 kilometers=11,154.8556 feet, algebraic steps below:
3.4 km*100000 cm
1 km*1 in
2.54 cm*1 ft
12 in=11,154.85564 ft
What is the highest 3 digit number you can make in Base 12?
It's ' B B B ', where 'B' is the symbol for eleven.
In decimal notation, its value is
[ 11 x (12)2 ] + [ 11 x (12)1 ] + [ 11 x (12)0 ] = 1,584 + 132 + 11 = 1,727
What is the outlier of the mean median and mode?
The median and mode cannot be outliers. For small samples a mode could be an outlier.
How many different combinations can be made if I put 4 out of 10 pictures in 4 different frames?
If you have 10 pictures and 4 frames, then there are 210 different groups
of pictures that you can frame and display.
Each group can be hung on the wall in 24 different orders from left to right, and
I guess there are other possible arrangements besides simply lining them up.
