Do materials move from the stomach to the small intestine by the cardiac sphincter?

No. The cardiac sphincter part of the stomach (also called the esophageal sphincter of the cardia) regulates how the food moves. This sphincter is close to the beginning of the stomach and it helps prevent gastric reflux back into the esophagus (GERD) or also called "heart burn". The contents of the stomach is a very strong acid.

What would cause your pointer finger to twitch for a couple of days and it will not stop?

Alzheimer's is one possibility, but not the only one.

This happened to Michael J. Fox while shooting the film "Doc Hollywood". He would go back to his motel room and his finger started shaking.

While this is probably not the real reason ... one should seek a Medical opinion and have it checked out. Any nervous tics could be the symptoms of something to come. See your Doctor.

AnswerMichael J Fox has Parkinson's disease AnswerCould be nerve damage. Have you ever had a back or neck injury? I suffered a cervical spine fracture of the C-6 vertebrae (shoulder line) roughly 20 years ago (15 at the time) and I still have little twitches in my fingers on some days. Late at night my feet will also involuntarily twitch as well. WE ALL GET TWITCHES!All people will get the odd twitch or "tick" in their eyelid, brow, lip, fingers and even toes. Some doctors believe it is low calcium, but it's possible you could have slept wrong, stressed some muscles or even done something as simple as carried something heavy in that hand. EXAMPLE: I had a very sore right shoulder for weeks and also I had one finger that twitched (more aggravating than anything else) and I couldn't figure out what it was. It suddenly dawned on me I carried a purse with strap over my right shoulder that had notes and books in it that I use for meetings. The weight was the issue. I've even had this happen to a finger due to carrying those plastic groceries bags by the handle (if the bag is full of heavy articles the plastic digs into the fingers and caused lack of blood circulation for a few minutes.)

Are you a typist? My pointer finger on my left hand started twitching, sometimes it went into my thumb. I was told it could be Carpal tunnel syndrome which I always thought was just in the wrist but apparently not! I work as a medical office assistant typing all day.

What is the process of the stomach lining repairing itself called?

There may be a more specific name for it, but just rebuilding is the basic process. What may be fascinating is to realize that the stomach lining actually gets partially digested during digestion.

What would cause someone to rage?

Rage is the result of built-up anger that has not been dealt with. So bascially anything no matter how tiny it is could trigger someone. 9 out of 10 times though, it is not the cause of what you did,but rather something that existed LOOONNG before in this person and what you did just triggered it. Hope that makes sense. Deoends who is this "someone". Read about narcissistic rage here: It is a reaction to dealing with someone lie this : Stalkers and the Borderline Personality The Borderline Personality In recent years psychologists have learned about and done case studies on a new personality disorder which the DSM-III-R classifies as an Axis II disorder- the Borderline Personality . This classification includes such personality disorders as the Anti-social Personality, the Histrionic Personality and the Narcissistic Personality. Several psychologists (including myself) diagonosed my stalker as afflicted with the Borderline Personality. Characteristic of the Borderline (derived from research done by Kreisman & Straus, 1989) are: a shaky sense of identity sudden, violent outbursts oversensitivity to real or imagined rejection brief, turbulent love affairs frequent periods of intense depression eating disorders, drug abuse, and other self-destructive tendencies an irrational fear of abandonment and an inability to be alone Not much research has been done on the Borderline Personality, and for many years it was difficult to diagnose- and to treat. A Borderline often feels as though his/her life is marked with a distinctive emptiness; a void in which a relationship often acts to fill. Many times the Borderline is a victim of an early dysfunctional family situation and/or emotional/physical abuse by those he/she trusted early on in childhood. The Borderline is psychotic , in the original, psychological meaning of the term: he/she is not in control and not in touch with reality. To the Borderline, a softly spoken word of advice can be construed as a threat on his/her emotional stability. An outsider's viewpoint that the Borderline is not in touch with reality often ends in a bitter and irrational dissassociation from the outsider on the part of the Borderline. Often, the Borderline ends up very much alone and victim to his/her disillusions. The Borderline stalker is very apt to see his/her actions as perfectly justified; he/she has paranoid disillusions which support these-often with disturbing frequency. The Borderline often has brief love affairs which end abruptly, turbulently and leave the Borderline with enhanced feelings of self-hatred, self-doubt and a fear that is not often experienced by rational people. When the Borderline's relationships turn sour, the Borderline often begins to, at first, harass the estranged partner with unnecessary apologies and/or apologetic behavior (i.e. letters of apology 'from the heart', flowers delivered at one's place of employment, early morning weeping phonecalls, etc.). However, the Borderline does not construe his/her behavior as harassment- to the Borderline he/she is being 'responsible' for his/her past behaviors. The next phase of the Borderline Personality develops relatively quickly and soon he/she feels suddenly betrayed, hurt, etc. and seeks to victimize the estranged partner in any way he/she can Strangely enough, this deleterious behavior is always coupled with a need to be near or in constant contact with the estranged partner . While sending threats to the estranged partner, it is very common for the Borderline to begin to stalk his/her estranged partner in an effort to maintain contact. This effort is motivated by the excruciating fear that the Borderline will end up alone and anger that [the estranged partner] has put him/her in this position. We are finding, in many cases, that a great deal of stalking behavior is associated with Borderline or related personality disorders. Earlier research did not incorporate the Borderline Personality in stalking profiles; research now is beginning to focus on the Borderline in such disorders as Erotomania, etc.

Do you have to be put to sleep to have your back teeth out or can you you have them out with a local?

It depends: Assuming the back teeth you are describing are your Wisdom teeth. Depending how many need to be extracted, and if they are impacted, some denists would reccommend you go for a general. Depends on how hard it will be to have the teeth removed and what you want to do. I'm sure you can get it done with out being put to sleep if that is your choice. Just talk to your dentist and you both can decide what's best for you. It can be done under local anesthetic, but, if fearful discuss it with your dentist and you can go to a special and receive a Valium drip also called "Twilight sleep" which I received during eye surgery. You could hear things around you, but felt no pain and the anesthetic didn't last long and I was home and cooking dinner in less than 2 hours. Having back teeth pulled may make you more drowsy and of course you will be given something for pain just in case you need it.

What do i do when i have an upset stomach?

If you have TUMS or any calcium supplement, that should help. If you lay down and read a book or watch a movie or do anything to distract you that should help. If it REALLY hurts for an extended period of time then you should probably go to the doctor - you might have a burst appendix...don't gag yourself! :)

Natural remedies you may have on hand (or may choose to keep on hand) include peppermint tea (available in your grocery store from Celestial Seasonings), sweetened with a bit of honey if necessary. Ginger too is a great solution -- eitehr as ginger ale (if made with true ginger), fresh ginger grated or 1/4 - 1/2 tsp dried ginger, steeped in hot water with a touch of honey would also help. More fun would be a few pieces of crystallized (candied) ginger. Ginger is renowned for helping alleviate nausea from morning sickness, motion sickness, and so forth.

How long does it take for you to get skinny if you stop eating food if you weigh about 144 llbs and you want to be about 110?

By "get skinny" you mean loose 34 pounds, I do not recoment for you to stop eating because even though you may get skinny, you will look unhealthy and it is bad for your internal organs. I imagine 2-3 weeks of no eating would make one loose that much weight. Starvation will back fire on you . The best way to see the weight drop off of you is to eat 5 to 6 small meals a day of healthy foods. The frequent small meals speeds up your metabolism and you lose weight. When you starve yourself your metabolism slows down and you will gain weight. This is the bodies way to protect itself and conservere energy for survival. I saw this happen with me. I started gaining weight and it was because I was eating less meals and the meals I did eat were bigger. Once I started eating more smaller meals my weight starting dropping again. Ruth, Dietitian
