I think you can, just because your immune system can start to fight off the bacteria, but when your white cells become slightly at red falg levels your body will warn you with a FEVER so you can obtain medical intervention... Strep is also contatious, of course to a partner or sharing utensils or drinking cups without proper disinfecting... Hope this HELPS! Like any antibiotic, amoxicillin will help to break down the infection in your tonsils, but it will certainly not have immediate relief. In general, it takes between 5-10 days of taking amoxicillin to be rid of strep throat. For an almost immediate relief of the pain I would first try taking some pain pills (Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Alive, ect..). Another good remedy is to make a hot cup of green tea with some honey in it. The green tea helps reduce the swelling for quite a while. This seems to relieve a lot of people when they have strep throat.
