Suboxone is a detox or maintenance medicine for people addicted to opiates. Questions should pertain to suboxone, or subutex, which is the same medicine without the opiate blocker.

970 Questions

I am a suboxone patient. Need pain medication for medical procedure. Is there a substitute for codeine?

You have a few different options for pain management depending on the severity of the procedure and recovery time. Many times, acetaminophen and ibuprofen in combination are great for less severe surgeries. You have your choice of combination drugs containing a narcotic pain reliever and acetaminophen such as Percocet and Vicodin. You can also get plain Oxycodone, methadone, hydromorphone, morphine, to name a few of the common ones. Most surgeons will send you home with a prescription for percocet which is oxycodone/ acetaminophen. Good luck!

Can suboxone be put into hot coffee or tea until it dissolves and takin that way or can it just be taken the prescribed way which is directly under the tongue until it completely dissolves?

no. the drug delivery system of suboxone is direct into the blood only through the blood vessels under the tongue. you will just be wasting it. you can but if swallowed it will be rendered inactive in the gastro system.

What are the side effects of taking Suboxone and having Thyroid trouble?

What is Buprenorphine injection?

BUPRENORPHINE (Buprenex®) is used to treat moderate to severe pain, usually during or after surgery. Generic buprenorphine injection is available.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

• abnormal bladder function, difficulty urinating

• constipation

• enlarged prostate

• gallbladder disease

• if you frequently have alcohol-containing drinks

• intestinal disease, such as inflammatory bowel disease

• kidney disease

• liver disease

• lung disease, such as asthma or COPD

• an unusual reaction to buprenorphine, morphine, codeine, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

• pregnant or trying to get pregnant

• breast-feeding

How should this medicine be used?

Buprenorphine injection is usually given as injection into your vein or large muscle by a trained healthcare professional.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

What if I miss a dose?

This does not apply. You will receive doses of buprenorphine from your health care professional as you need them for pain.

What drug(s) may interact with Buprenorphine?

amiodarone

bosentan

butorphanol

clarithromycin

entacapone

erythromycin-1

fluoxetine

fluvoxamine-luvox

levomethadyl

• medicines for fungal infections (examples: fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, voriconazole)

• medicines for seizures

methadone

mifepristone-1

nalbuphine

naltrexone

nefazodone

pentazocine

rifampicin

• some medicines for the treatment of HIV infection or AIDS

• St. John's wort

Because buprenorphine can cause drowsiness, other medicines that also cause drowsiness may increase this effect of buprenorphine. Some medicines that cause drowsiness are:

• alcohol-containing medicines

• barbiturates such as phenobarbital

• certain antidepressants or tranquilizers

• certain antihistamines used in cold medicines

• muscle relaxants

• other strong pain medicines such as morphine, propoxyphene, hydrocodone

Ask your prescriber or health care professional about other medicines that may increase the effect of buprenorphine.

Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

What should I watch for while taking Buprenorphine?

Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness until you know how buprenorphine affects you. Stand or sit up slowly; this reduces the risk of dizzy or fainting spells. These effects may be worse if you are an older patient. The drowsiness should decrease after taking buprenorphine for a couple of days.

Be careful taking other medicines that may also make you tired. This effect may be worse when taking other medicines that cause drowsiness along with buprenorphine. Alcohol can also increase possible drowsiness, dizziness, confusion and affect your breathing. Avoid alcohol while taking buprenorphine.

What side effects may I notice from receiving Buprenorphine?

Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:

• breathing difficulties

• blurred vision or any change in vision

• confusion

• constipation

• dizziness

• drowsiness

• headache

• insomnia

• nausea

• sweating

Where can I keep my medicine?

This does not apply. You will not be given buprenorphine injection to use at home.

Will 30mg of Xanax at once cause overdose with 24mg of Suboxone a day?

Please clarify your dosage for Xanax as the highest possible mg strength is 3 mg per tablet and is unlikely that any doctor would perscrib 30 mg to be taken at once; you should only take this medication as prescribed and same goes for Suboxone; it is only avalible up to 8 mg per sublingual tablet.

A Xanax overdose can kill you.

Xanax and Suboxone are both central nervous system depressants and the use of these two drugs together should be monitored. Some side effects may include, but are not limited to, ataxia, confusion, drowsiness, respiratory depression, and weakness. Since both medications have the potential to depress CNS function it is important to recognize that the risk of unwanted effects may increase with such use.

Can you take suboxone if you have hepatitis C?

The answer is, yes. Be careful taking drugs without a doctor's script, if you have Hep C, your liver may not be able to handle it!

Can you take suboxone when you have hep c?

I'm pretty sure you can. I know someone that has hep c and they did suboxone all of the time, so you'll be okay. just incase you're not sure, you may want to ask someone that's more familiar with the drug.

Is Suboxone maintenance safe?

Yes, it's safe for most people. You shouldn't start taking it without a doctor's supervision, though, just in case you have some kind of health condition or disease that would make it harmful for you. I can't imagine what that might be, but that's why I'm not a doctor.

If your on suboxone therapy will shooting it hurt you?

shooting it is as pointless as jumping off the grand canyon to cure cancer. When you shoot suboxone the nalaxone in suboxone will render the bupremorphine inactive. Suboxone is designed to be impossible to shoot, which it is. You will just be wasting it if try this. Trust me! Just take it sublingually!

What is the max dose of suboxone until the antagonist kicks in?

Should never take more than 16mg at a time, and only take that amount if you have been taking other high doses of opiates for an extended period of time. Even then suboxone should not be taken until all opiates are completely out of your system or you risk getting VERY sick, trust me on this. Wait at least 12 hours before taking suboxone after your last use of an opiate, unless it is methadone in that case you will need to wait at least 48 hours. The antagonist you speak of is called naloxone, which is also know as narcan and is used to treat overdose of opiates. But when suboxone is taken sublingually(under your tongue) most of the naloxone is rendered inactive. It is mainly in there to keep people from "shooting up" the suboxone. Bupremorphine is active ingredient in suboxone and is a semi-synthetic opiate itself. That is what take away the withdrawal symptoms. Message me if you have any other questions about Suboxone.

UPDATE!!-- Bruce5890

Dosing higher then 16mg is ok. I believe the maximum dose before the naloxone starts working is 32mg. I know this is true because my doctor asked if I needed a higher dose and I am already at 24mg and sometimes takes 32.

Mixing suboxone and herion?

You will get very very sick do not do this and it is a waste of money as well because after taking suboxone your opiate receptor will be saturated, so not only will you get sick but you will not even feel the heroin.

You took 4mg of suboxone for your first dose all day yesterday Will you get sick even though a lot of time has gone by if you took 15mg of oxycodone today?

You shouldn't feel sick, but you may not get the feeling you're craving from the 15mg oxycodone since suboxone stays in your system for anywhere from one day to several. If you've waited at least 24 hours, you should still feel it somewhat, since it has only been your first dose. If I were you, I would try to stick to the suboxone. It does wonders for addicts. I have been an opiate addict for about 3 years and wish I could practice what I preach, but anyone who's gone through becoming addicted knows addiction trumps good intentions. Good luck.

Also, if you are planning on continuing with the suboxone after you've taken your oxycodone, you need to wait until you start to feel the effects of withdrawal kicking in. If you don't, you will go into full-fledged withdrawal. Hardly pleasant!

What will help you from being depressed while I am on suboxone?

I take 1mg or two of kolonopin, with 10mg of lexapro with 4-8mgs of suboxone. it works great for me, but you'll have to be very careful not to exceed more than 3mgkolonopin or a high dose of suboxone such as 16-24mg.

How long after taking suboxone can you take a narcotic?

well suboxone cling to the nerves in your brain which opiates would usually use to get high instead the suboxone block those recepters but suboxone will only block opiates so as far as other drugs like coke or weed, zanies, and other non opiate narcotics you will still get high but be warned if you do take a opiates which are pecocet, vicoden, oxycottin, herion etc YOU WILL NOT GET HIGH NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TAKE AND COULD OVERDOSE. but how long to wait depends on how long youve been taking the suboxone if its the first time wait a day if yove been taking it for a week or longer it will take longer how ever many days youve been taking it it for is how many days you have to wait i hope i helped but if not i hope everything goes well always remember drugs are just drugs you are always stronger you can do anything you have the power to change the world all of us humans have that power we just gotta find it good luck

Can one take Oxycontin with suboxone to take away withdrawls have been taking Oxycontin 200mg per day thought if started getting the sub in the body meant no withdrawls please thanks?

DO NOT MIX SUBOXONE & OXYCODONE! To start out, it's important to know what the drugs do & how they work. Suboxone is a combination of primarily buprenorphine & Naloxone. Buprenorphine is a synthetic opiate and a partial opiod agonist, which means that is has an attraction to the natural opiod receptors in your brain. It has a very long half-life and stays in your system a lot longer than oxy. As odd as it may seem, buprenorphine also acts as an antagonist in the brain and has what's called a ceiling effect, meaning you can't get any "higher" than a certain level. Naloxone is an opiod antagonist and actually reverses the effects of opiates in your brain. It's often used in an ER for opiate overdoses. It is put in Suboxone to discourage IV users from crushing the pills & injecting them. Oxycodone, a much stronger opiate than buprenorphine, is a full opiod agonist and has a much stronger attraction to those receptors although it lasts significantly shorter than buprenorphine.

It is not a good idea to mix Suboxone & oxycodone because the two drugs "compete" for opiate receptors in the brain. What this means is that the Suboxone will basically render the oxycodone useless and you will experience little or no effect from the oxycodone. Suboxone is supposed to be used to ease withdrawl symptoms from opiates like herion, oxycodone, methadone, etc. and is not to be used in conjunction with them. Stick with one or the other - good luck!

Answer 2

The suboxone will overpower the oxycodone, and depending on your dose of suboxone & when you take it in relation to your dose of oxy, you're either going to feel diminished effects of the oxy, or no effects at all. if you're got access to suboxone, you've got a great tool to help you live a clean, productive life. be grateful for this & stick to the subs. you're going to feel a little uneasy for a week or so while your body adjusts to the subs, but afterwards you'll feel absolutely perfect. your body still needs to detox though, so if you can make it just one week without oxy (and i know it's tough), staying clean - and being happy, suboxone acts as an amazing antidepressant- should be as easy as taking your subs every morning. hope you feel better, it's a long road, but every journey begins with the first step.

I have to pass a urine screen with a negative whether i have a script legally or not How long does suboxone stay in your system after you stop taking it?

If this is for probation the suboxone will not show up. i know this from personal experience. I take a sub the morning of my test and it is always clean. If they are specifically testing for the subs it takes 72 hours from your last dose. I would give it a full 4days to be 100%. Hope this helps good luck!!!

Can you take oxy after suboxone?

You should NEVER take oxycodone (oxy) after suboxone. These two drugs are both opioid analgesics which when taking together could cause respiratory depression and death. Taking any combination of opiate derived substances together increases the chance that you will become unable to breath, in addition to the risk of aspirating vomit if you were to throw up. This happens quite frequently in heroin overdose. Suboxone and oxycodone are both derived from the same chemical as heroine, and carry the same risks for overdose.

Can you take suboxone and Watson 853 together?

No you cannot and should not take Watson 853 and Suboxone together. Watson 853 is Hydrocodone 10/325 which is Vicodin. You will not get high, you will just get sick or possibly overdose and die.
