Technically it is possible, however, the salon that you go to probably will not let you in the booth naked for sanitary reasons. But if you have a home tanning booth I'm sure you can.
Self-tanning treatments have a limited duration?
The reason why self-tanning products have a short duration is because most self-tanning products contain the active ingredient DHA (dihydroxyacetone), which creates a natural sun glow by chemically reacting with the amino acids in the dead layer (the stratum corneum) of the skin's epidermis. This means that the duration of the sunless tan is short because the stratum corneum is coincidently shedding meaning the tan cannot last more than 28 days (for young people). This is also the reason why it can become patchy as we are always shedding skin (Desquamation).
SPF or sun protection factor is the measure of the amount of time taken by the sun light or more specifically the ultra violet rays to cause irradiation to the skin which is commonly known as sun burn on the protected skin. For example, if for your normal skin the time taken for irradiation is 30 minutes and after applying the cream the duration is 300 minutes, then the sun protection factor for that particular product is 300 divided by 30, that is SPF 10. Normally the time taken for irradiation by normal skin ranges from 20 to 30 minutes and so you can easily find how much SPF you need in your day cream by calculating the number of minutes you are exposed to the sun. With increased value of SPF, the number of minutes of protection increases. The SPF requirement increases with increasing time of exposure to the sun.
How long before an indoor tanning session should I apply lotion?
This is a very popular question and I'll explain why it's better to apply indoor tanning lotions before tanning. Most indoor tanning lotions have some type of moisturizer in them. Moisturizers help protect your skin because they keep moisture inside your skin that would generally be lost due to the excessive heat inside the tanning bed. Applying lotions before entering the tanning bed at least 15 minutes before tanning allows those moisturizers and vitamins like vitamin E enough time to soak into your skin. If you apply tanning lotion right before entering the tanning bed your skin may not have enough time to soak up all of the moisturizers and UV protection before tanning which can have adverse effects on your skin.

Is it bad to tan indoor and use tanning lotion then shower?
You don't necessarily HAVE to but it dries out your skin quickly, lessens your ability to tan and probably even more unhealthy for your skin. Also, I've found if you don't use lotion you kind of stick to the bed and it's very uncomfortable.
Do tanning beds harm your teeth?
Tanning beds use UV light to tan you, and dentists use UV light to whiten your teeth. So tanning beds help whiten your teeth, but whitening your teeth also breaks down the enamel. So yes, tanning beds are bad for your teeth, but so are whitening strips.

The cost of tanning all depends on a couple of factors. 1. The indoor tanning salon that you plan on going to. All tanning salons charge different prices for tanning minutes or usage. Most salons have days of the week that are half off or $5 for a one time tan. Check out your local salons for the best prices. Also note that all tanning beds are different and have different levels of bulbs that effect your skin differently. 2. The cost of the tanning lotion that you plan to use. Bronzers can cost more than accelerators because of the ingredients used in the tanning lotions. 3. How long do you plan on tanning? If you plan on tanning on a regular basis it might be cheaper to buy a packaged plan that allows you to use tanning minutes. Buying a large bulk of minutes reduces your cost per tan. Tanning bed levels may effect the usage of your minutes as well. Higher bed levels usually spend more of your minutes or money because they are more expensive for the tanning salon to run.

The SPF rating on your sunscreen only pertains to the amount of protection from the UVB or burning rays. Tanning is actually the result of your body trying to protect its DNA within the nucleus of the skin cells. UVA rays are the rays that cause damage to the matrix of the skin, and the amount of UVA protection is not required as of now by the FDA on sunscreen packaging. The melanocytes, or cells responsible for producing melanin (tan) in your skin, are stimulated by any type of heat or trauma, so in answer to your question, it is possible to tan with a high SPF product. However, please be aware that DNA damage occurs with UV exposure, and can cause premature aging and skin cancer. Tanning booths offer a false sense of security, and can actually increase your chances of skin cancer. The latest figures are that if you tan even once in awhile in a tanning bed between your teens and early 20s, you increase your chances of melanoma 25%. Your best bet is to use the self-tanners or go get a spray-on tan!!

Some tanning salons do not have this requirement, however many will recommend the user to at least be a teenager - 11-13 and over - before laying. Check with your local salons to see what their requests are on this subject. Every tanning salon operates differently in different areas, countries, and states - depending upon policy.
Irrespective of your legal right to use tanning beds, worldwide medical opinion is that they damage skin, thereby increasing the risk of skin cancer and of premature skin aging. That is too heavy a price to pay for the Golden-Glow look born of vanity. In some sections of the U.S.A., dermatologists could fill their entire office schedule treating only patients who have skin damage, pre-cancer, and cancer as a result of exposure to sunlight and UV rays. Medical groups in the U.S.A. have been urging regulation or elimination of tanning beds, but the tanning bed companies have been arguing that tanning is not only harmless but is, in fact, beneficial. Ironically, the same battle went on over cigarettes and smoking.
