What kind of tanning lotion will get you the darkest the fastest?

Look for something with a lot of bronzers. And make sure you buy from a salon! Don't trust eBay or amazon sellers. I work at a tanning salon and have been personally tanning for years and I'm partial to designer skin products like black, obsidian and 14k gold. The main thing is buy from a trusted salon and spend a little extra on a really good product! You get what you pay for.

What are tanning salon tickets used for on marapets.com?

They are used to go to the salon and get all dolled up. ^_^

Should children under the age of 18 be prohibited from using tanning beds?

Yes. Though using a tanning bed is the choice, I feel that not everyone is willing to look toward the long term effects of using a one. Negative effects may not be noticeable the day after, but may take place twenty years down the road. When tanning beds came out in the 1980's, my mom used them because it was no big deal. A couple years ago, nearly twenty years after, she had a malignant mole removed. Now my mom wasn't a person who sat in a tanning bed every single day. She only used one every once in a while, but from that came dangerous results. I speak from experience when I say that teens don't think about all of their actions. In the case of tanning bed restriction, I believe that no one can be stopped from using a tanning bed permanently, but they can be educated on the negative effects. A compromise could be not completely restricting the use of tanning beds to teens, but making a reduction in the time allowed to spend in a tanning bed. Coming to a compromise isn't a permanent solution to this problem, but it is a start.

How long does it take for tanning lotion to where off?

Depends on what type you are using. If the tanner tans by pigments in the tanning cream, several good washings of the skin will lighten your skin considerably. If the tanner tans by stimulating your skin to make more melanin, your skin will change color when it renews itself, which will take a few weeks.

How does tanning occur?

In general, tanning is the process whereby melanocytes produce melanin, which gives the skin a red or brown pigment.

There are two mechanisms by which this happens:

1) UV-A radiation creates oxidative stress, which oxidizes existing melanin, leading to darkening of the skin. UV-A can also cause the redistribution of melanin via release from melanocytes. This production of melanin helps to prevent sunburn due to UV-B exposure.

2) UV-B radiation triggers an increase in the production of melanin (melanogenesis), which is the body's reaction to photodamage (bonding of pyrimidine to form dimers...a type of radiation-induced chemical damage to the bases of DNA and RNA). Melanogenesis leads to delayed tanning, becoming visible about 72 hours later.

While UV-A tanning is much more short-lived and serves as a protection mechanism against UV-B, at least some DNA photodamage must be produced to yield the long-term effects of tanning created by UV-B-induced melanogenesis.

What causes bumps from indoor tanning?

Either you're sunburned or you're skin is very dry. If you're burnt, try aloe vera. If you're skin is dried out, try a lotion made for indoor tanners that has hemp seed ( a very rich natural moisturizer) in it and you should be better in no time!

Can you go tanning twice in one day?

Not advisable - risk of skin cancer later very high through daily tanning. Alternatively keep your exposure to the sun limited to the times the sun rays are not so powerful.

Briar Carwell's Edit:

You can, it's not recommended. Melanogenesis is the process in which your body reacts to the sun. During UV exposure, your skin's melanin production increases as your skin's natural defense against sunburn. Melanocytes produce melanin, which after sun exposure, darkens within about 24-48 hours. You want to give your body time to reach its peak melanin production because more melanin means a darker tan. For this reason, if you are tanning, it's recommended you go every other day. If you are trying to get a great tan, gradually build it. Don't be impatient. Stay hydrated and use a great moisturizing lotion without mineral oil, alcohol, or lanolin (which are awful for a tan) because properly hydrated/moisturized skin tans about 60% better. Lastly, avoid burning/over exposure, which can inhibit your tanning process, damage your skin, and put you at risk for skin cancer. I recommend using an spf 8-15 sunblock with non-nano particle zinc oxide while outdoors.

Is it ok to shave after you tan?

You can exfoliate after tanning however it is recommended that you exfoliate before tanning. First, it removes dead skin cells which not only reflect light but also can not tan. Second it increases your circulation and tanning requires UVA + UVB (both found in the lamps) and oxygen. Increasing oxygen levels increases your tanning ability. Also, if you are using a lotion with DHA bronzer or a color guide then exfoliating right after tanning can halt the effects. Waiting about 4 hours after application allows you get the full results out of your lotion. So it is not recommended that you exfoliate right after tanning but it won't hurt you.

How do you get rid of a red shiny patch of skin on your nose?

Proactiv designed a product just for this. They are called "Blotter Sheets."

They are thin layers of rice paper that soak up excess oil around the nose. I've used them, and I was quite pleased with the result.

If you're unable to get Proactiv, I would recommend Oxy's line of products.

1) Clean your face twice daily - preferably in the morning and at night.

2) Try to resist the urge to touch your face during the day. It spreads acne bacteria.

3) DO NOT pop your pimples. This helps spread the bacteria and may cause scarring.

Does every person get sunburn at the same amount of time in the sun?

No.

I get sunburnt quite quickly.

My friend doesn't.

Another gets is even faster.

How quickly you tan or burn depends on the amount of melanin in your skin. People with fair skin have very little melanin, so they burn more quickly. Beige or darker skinned people have more melanin, so they develop more of a tan before they burn.

How do you hide your peeling skin?

This process will take about a 20 minutes. First put St. Ives Apricot Scrub on peeling areas. Leave on for 2 minutes. Scrub in well for 3 minutes. Wash the scrub away... Second you can use a (never been used) rough foot scrubber. And scrub on your peeling areas very gently. It will take off big flakes the peeling. If you need to take off little flakes of skin then I suggest that you use your fingers or tweezers to be sanitary and rub lotion all over the peeling area then peel all of the flakes off. PROBLEM SOLVED IN 20 minutes!

How long do you wait to take a shower after you spray tan?

Personally i'd wait atleast up to 4 hours to let the bronzer set in. I have taken a shower an hour after using a lotion with a bronzer and it completely washed off.

When should you shower before indoor tanning?

If you have on makeup it may be wise to wash it off before tanning to avoid uneven tanning. If you are using a lotion that is oil based- check for mineral oil, many lotions have it as an ingrediant wash it off before tanning because these lotions WILL ruin the bed if it is an acrylic bed like most. I know this is true because I work at a tanning salon.

Do you put on lotion after tanning?

-wash your self (have a bath or shower) using soap rather than shower gel

-shave your legs

-exfoliate

Also, exfoliate a few days into your tan to make sure that it fades evenly, otherwise it might fade on some skin cells and go blotchy on the dead skin cells

:)

If you exfoliate a day before your spray tanning session with Baiden Mitten, not only will your tan go on flawlessly, last longer, but it will also fade evenly, not in patches, so it will feel more like a sun tan rather than a spray tan.

What happens if you go tanning and you are pregnant?

In a tanning bed, the ultraviolet rays enter your body and reflect off of each other (similar to a microwave). Hopefully everything is alright, but I would not continue tanning for the duration of your pregnancy.

Indoor tanning is VERY DANGEROUS at the best of times. The harmful rays damage your skin. Stop the tanning immediately. If you haven't over done the tanning sessions, everything should be ok. NO MORE...
