How is H1N1 diagnosed and how long does it take to get results?
The swine flu is diagnosed by taking a flu swab from both nostrils. I work in a busy ER and the most common and accurate method seems to be a Nasal wash. A few drops of saline are put in both nostrils and suctioned out. This is then sent to lab and a person is diagnosed with either Influenza A or B or is negative.
Technically not everyone who tests positive for influenza is being checked for the swine flu, but either Influenza A or B. The CDC has a random sampling rule for deciding which positive flu washes or swabs are sent for confirmation.
I am not sure of the percentages but I believe that approximately 80% of Influenza A is the Swine Flu.
My guess is that the CDC is just including all of those who test positive as having the Swine flu.
Should you eat before a flu shot?
It does not matter, eating before or after a flu shot should have no effect on any results of immunity and there is no common gastrointestinal effect from the vaccinations that would cause nausea or vomiting or other GI symptoms. Keeping your body well hydrated by drinking water will help you feel better during the immune response.
You just got over the flu how do I make my body strong again?
Be sure to first not allow yourself to get sick again by keeping yourself clean, especially bywashing your hands. Drink lots of water, which is always a good idea. Eat good solid meals throughout the day with a special focus on good hearty breakfasts. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it does one very important thing for your body. It sets your metabolism for the day, so if you eat a good meal your body will not only be able to process and prepare energy for the day's work but will also set you up to be able to enjoy a good lunch and dinner later on. Be sure to also get enough sleep. If you are a teenager or younger you should be fine on 8 or 9 hours of sleep. If you are in your twenties or older then 8 to 7 will be good. Sleep does so much for your body that depriving yourself of it is extremely unhealthy. You brain reorganizes, your bodies cells restock and do repairs, and your whole system just gets a real good overhaul each time you get yourself a good nights sleep. And always dress for the weather. Don't let yourself get cold or overheated. Both these problems will weaken the immune system.
Does Alaska have any Swine Flu cases?
There have been people in every state of the US that have had H1N1/09 swine flu. There have also been cases in every country of the world in the 2009 pandemic.
There may still be some isolated cases or outbreaks in limited locations around the world right now, including in Alaska. However, the specifics and counts of cases are no longer being tracked by CDC, WHO, and most US states now that the pandemic has been declared over. Influenza cases are monitored, but specific H1N1/09 counts aren't available separately from other influenza reporting any longer.
Should you stay out of work while you have cold symptoms?
yes you should, because you never know what it is you have, you could have the swine flu and it is very important that you don't spread it on to others, it is also very important while you are out in public wash your hands frequently and do not rub your eyes nose or mouth, also remember to get your h1n1 vaccination.
Influenza A virus subtype H1N1 treatments?
Treatment is very simple acually, most people can get cured by taking Tamiflu pills. But with the pills I WARN YOU that if you DO take them you will get sick depending on who you are. Personally when I took the pills I got sick either way if i took them woth or without food. The tamiflu pills are about 2 centimeters long and about 1 centimeter wide. But also if you are like me, since I train in athletics for many things, which are all sorts of team sports such as volleyball cheer and soccer, for some reason my immune system fought the H1N1 virus off before i got the pills. The reason I got the pills was to stop the virus from coming back.
i hope you bring attention to this, i understand its about 60 foreign teachers from the usa, UK, Australia, south Korea and others they the usa teachers tried to contact the us embassy, i understand the person that answered was not very friendly like she was being bothered.
Is moving around better when you have the flu?
You need to keep warm and stay indoors not moving around.
Why are flu vaccinations produced from dead virus and not live viruses?
In the US there is a flu vaccination made with live viruses that have been weakened (attenuated) to prevent them from making otherwise healthy people sick. This type of vaccine can be used by those who are healthy and aged 2 - 49. It creates a very good immune response to cause immunity and so it can be administered in an intranasal mist that is inhaled into the nose instead of having to be given in a shot. The vaccines for flu that are made to be injected in a shot are made from "dead" viruses or pieces of dead viruses. So flu vaccinations are produced from both "dead" viruses and live viruses.
Can hospitals require flu shots for employees?
I would think they could. I know that certain jobs require certain health requirements. I am a teacher and I am required to have a TB test every 2 years to keep teaching. In some states teachers are also required to have hepatitis shots to teach. I did the shots, but wasn't required to. With the shadow of a flu epidemic I would think a hospital would require a flu shot to be sure that their employees didn't spread the flu or get it.
New York State has just recently (late September 2009) enacted a mandate that all health care workers must take flu shots. It was the first state to make them mandatory.Can flu shots be given in the Gluteal area?
They can be, but usually aren't. This is mostly because many people get red and tender tissue at the site of the injection for a few days after the shot. It is much easier to deal with that soreness in a location like the arm that doesn't need to be sat upon.
Does sodium bicarbonate backing soda used against H1N1 virus protection?
yes .because the bood will ha an alkaline medium which no virus can live in
Does the current Novel H1N1 Swine Flu contain elements of avian flu?
Yes. It does contain genetic material of Avian Flu in addition to three types of swine flu and also human flu viruses. (Avian flu is also called "Bird Flu"). When a virus mutates like this one did in pigs with five different genomes in the virus, it is called a quintuple reassortant (also known as reassortment) virus.
The three types of swine flu genetic material in the A-H1N1/09 pandemic flu are American swine flu, Asian swine flu, and European swine flu.
Yes, those could be symptoms of influenza, but without a physician examination and lab testing there is no way to know for sure if it is the swine flu or seasonal flu.
A quote from CDC Information (see link below in related link section):
"If you live in areas where swine influenza cases have been identified and become ill with influenza-like symptoms, including fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, or vomiting or diarrhea, you may want to contact their health care provider, particularly if you are worried about your symptoms. Your health care provider will determine whether influenza testing or treatment is needed."
The clinics and doctors' offices are very busy screening for the potential 2009 Swine Flu in patients, if you have the above described circumstances and symptoms, telephone your health care provider for advice. Do not go to the health care provider location unless you telephone first. If you go unnecessarily, you risk exposure to the virus at the office when you may not have had it in the first place.
The only way to be sure it is the 2009 Swine flu is lab testing. If testing is advised by your care provider, the CDC describes the appropriate tests as:
"... a respiratory specimen would generally need to be collected within the first 4 to 5 days of illness (when an infected person is most likely to be shedding virus). However, some persons, especially children, may shed virus for 10 days or longer. Identification as a swine flu influenza A virus requires sending the specimen to CDC for laboratory testing." Update: there are now "field test kits" that the CDC has provided regionally for providers and labs to be able to do preliminary testing to detect the presence of Novel H1N1 cases.
When to seek emergency care according to CDC:
"If you become ill and experience any of the following warning signs, seek emergency medical care.
In children emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:
* Fast breathing or trouble breathing
* Bluish skin color
* Not drinking enough fluids
* Not waking up or not interacting
* Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
* Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
* Fever over 101 F (or fever with a rash)
In adults, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:
* Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
* Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
* Sudden dizziness
* Confusion
* Severe or persistent vomiting"

How many cases of Swine Flu have there been in Vermont?
No one has a good count any more. There may be some ongoing cases in limited locations around the world, including in Vermont. However, the specifics and counts of cases are no longer being tracked by CDC, WHO, the US states, and most other countries, now that the pandemic has been declared over. Influenza cases are monitored, but specific H1N1/09 counts (and the lab tests needed to isolate the specific virus to be able to count them correctly) aren't being done. Influenza cases in general are monitored, but statistics are not being kept for H1N1/09 cases separately from other influenza types for reporting any longer in the post pandemic phase.
Yes, probably. You should contact the health care professional who gave you the Tamiflu order and see if they recommend that you get the vaccination when it becomes available. It won't hurt to take it even if you were exposed to the virus already, and it would be better safe than sorry.
There is a chance that if your family member had confirmed A-H1N1/09 influenza and you were in direct contact with them while they were sick, you may have acquired immunity from that exposure. The Tamiflu is not the same as a vaccination and it does not prevent infection with a virus unless you get it at just the right time, usually it is given to lessen the symptoms and speed the recovery when you do contract the disease.
Which doctrine is known from the gitlow case?
The Incorporation Doctrine. The Gitlow case was the first time the Supreme Court was asked to consider whether the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution incorporated the Bill of Rights into the states' constitutions. While the court upheld the lower court decision and refused to overturn Gitlow's conviction, the case lead to future Supreme Court decisions incorporating the Bill of Rights into state constitutions.
The following cities in France have had confirmed cases of the Swine Flu: 1. Bordeaux - 1 confirmed case 2. Auvergne - 1 confirmed case 3. Ile-de-France - 1 confirmed case 4. Paris - 5 confirmed cases 5. Perpignan - 2 confirmed cases 6. Saône-et-Loire - 2 confirmed cases 7. Strasbourg - 2 confirmed cases
What is the full form of H1N1 virus?
The H and N stand for the two proteins on the capsid (coat) of the virion that causes this influenza. The H stands for Hemagglutinin, and the N stands for Nueraminidase. The numbers in the names of flu viruses refer to the configuration of these proteins. See the related questions below for more details.
Why is the influenza vaccine not free?
In the US the vaccine for the H1N1/09 pandemic swine flu was provided free from the US government. However, if you had a private provider (doctor, hospital, pharmacy, etc.) administer your vaccination instead of a public health professional from the local or state government, then you may have been charged for their administration of the vaccine. The seasonal flu vaccine is usually either paid by insurance with preventive and wellness coverage, or charged to the individual directly.
What vaccine caused more death and illness than the disease it was intended to prevent?
At least one vaccine that was used that caused these problems was the Swine Flu vaccine given in the US in 1976 for one of the earlier strains of "Swine Flu" in humans. Many people died or contracted Guillian-Barre syndrome from the vaccine, more than were impacted by the disease itself. The method of preparation of vaccines has been changed and improved greatly, so this type of response to the newer vaccines is no longer anticipated.
