What kind of tea is hibiscus tea and what is it good for?

Hibiscus tea, also called roselle tea, is an herbal tea made from the hibiscus sabdariffa (or roselle) plant. It has a deep reddish purple color and a tangy flavor. Hibiscus is a common ingredient in herbal teas, where it imparts both a purple color and a tangy quality.

Besides being widely used as a beverage (especially in the middle-east, where it is native, and in Central America, where it grows well), hibiscus tea is used for medicinal purposes. It is particularly effective for treating hypertension (high blood pressure). Hibiscus has been shown in controlled clinical trials to be effective for lowering blood pressure, is as effective as at least one prescription drug, and is much safer than any known prescription drugs on the market. It also has other traditional uses, such as to lower fever.

How is pu erh tea made?

There are two main types of Pu-erh that are made in different ways. Raw or sheng (green) Pu-erh is prepared like most Chinese green tea (pan-fired in a wok, to kill the enzymes that cause oxidation), and then often (but not always) pressed into bricks. Raw pu-erh tends to be very strong and is often not consumed right after production: instead it is aged, often for years, in order to allow the flavor to mellow out.

Ripe or shu (cooked, black) Pu-erh has been processed in such a way to imitate the effects of the aging process. Ripe pu-erh is produced by storing the tea in a warm, humid environment, allowing mold and bacterial cultures to more quickly change the chemical composition of the tea. This process is relatively new, started in the 70's, and is used primarily as a cost-saving measure, to produce smooth-tasting Pu-erh without the long aging process.

After Pu-erh is produced at the factory, it is then aged. This is accomplished by storing it in a container with some air circulation, such as an unglazed ceramic jar or a glazed jar with a cloth placed over it in place of a lid. Some pu-erhs can be aged for many years. Pu-erh can also be aged around other aromas, allowing it to become scented, such as by putting it inside hollowed-out fruit so that it acquires the aroma of the fruit.

Which is better out of tea bag or loose tea leaves?

In order to experience the full strength and nuanced flavor of good tea, loose tea leaves - as opposed to bagged tea - is a better choice.

Bagged tea, in general, involves either ground tea or the finer particles sifted out of picked tea leaves. The result is a lower quality tea that lacks the flavor of the full leaf.

Even loose leaf tea that is served in bags compromises the steeped tea's flavor, as the small bags do not have sufficient volume and rigidity to allow tea leaves to open during the steeping process; in this way, a majority of flavor remains untapped.
