You must understand the generation of the fig, given by Christ in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 and how that relates to Jeremiah 24 (prophecy which occurred in 1947-48), the final generation of mankind.
You must understand the time limits of a generation (Genesis 6:3 and Psalm 90:10), 120 or 70 or 80 years.
These are all signs, not specific times and dates. The end of this 2nd iteration of earth will end when these signs and prophecies can be observed. The clock started its countdown when the State of Israel came into existence ( Q4-1947 to Q1-1948).

The last chapter of the bible is Revelation. Written by John of Patmos the book reveals end time prophecies and the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ. At that time He will defeat Satan and the fallen angels and pronouce judgement on every human that has ever lived. After the judgement and destruction of the world He will make a new earth and a new heaven and then will reside there with the faithful.

- All supplies run out for negotians, by then, many people will lock themselves in their homes. War will break out (possibly nuclear) and many will perish. Those that survive will walk out to find the temperature is over 160 degrees F. Then all volcanoes will erupt because of the heat, incinerating people left. Finally the Earth will cool into a gigantic asteroid and be consumed by the Sun 2 billion years later when it explodes in a gigantic supernova or turns into a black hole.

Some people believed that it was a dramatic hallmark of human history, not realizing that the number of a year is largely only a representational convention. (That means it means nothing)

when I first heard about the world ending in 2012, I personally was quite worried about it. Just thinking about all these terrible natural disasters happening & destroying our universe was very stressful, but then I realised what is the point worrying over something that can happen tomorrow, or in 500 years? No one can be precise on when the world will come to an end, but you shouldn't be worrying about it because anyone can say anything & its a good way of scaring people.

If you are talking about the physical earth, the endpoint is relative to your start point. So if you are starting where you currently are, the endpoint is right behind you, since the earth is round.
If you are defining "world" as the end of human civilization, the end point would be the moment after the last human has died.
If you are defining "world" as the celestial existence of the earth, the end point would be immediately after a catastrophic celestial event that destroys the earth.

During that time, mankind will either develop means to relocate to another habitable place in the galaxy, or mankind will come to an end. You might search for a science fiction story writen by Arthur C. Clarke about 1946 called "Rescue Party" (frequently anthologized) which draws a good picture of this question. It was science fiction when written, but it holds up very well as a likely scenario even today..

well, my friend, think of it this way,if it is going to end in 2012 then wait until december 24th or sometime in the december 20ths, and in 2102 we will most likely be dead anyway, so no need to worry about the second one. now if you are thinking about those mayans, dont believe a thing, it is one big calendar. i believe that the poor sod making it died or got bored, thats why it stopped. proof of that is probably the fact that if they predicted the tsunami and the rise of hitler, they must have signaled it on the calendar, right?. now on the calendar, it says nothing about any world ending or, in fact, anything about major disasters. it just stopped. and so now you know. hope this helped.

Yes, there is a posibilty that this world will have to come to an end... The earth's ozone layer is one of the many things responsible for keeping our earth alive. Unfortunately around 40 years ago scientists found out that if products like spray on products were constantly used the ozone layer would have melted away and we wouldn't be protected from the sun's radiation. The radiation would have burned away the face of the earth and melted all of humanity. So the scientists created certain laws to protect earth.
