There are 15 islands: seven low-lying, almost deserted islands and atolls in the northern Cook Islands and eight elevated and fertile islands in the southern Cook Islands, which is where the majority of the population lives.

It is NOT an island in the singular, but an archipelago of islands. The principal islands in group are Espiritu Santo, Malakula, Efate, & Epi. There are numerous smaller islands in the group.

It is legally a sovereign nation, and part of the British Commonwealth.

It was formerly known as 'New Hebrides'. Its capital city is Port Vila, on the island of Efate.

This is a stupid divisive question (or at best, a lazy one).

But to answer it, both groups of islands are polynesian, beautiful and relatively unspoilt.

Both countries are fiercely patriotic and extremely religious.

Both take about the same time to get to from most destinations.

Both will welcome visitors with open arms and old fashioned hospitality and service.

So toss a coin or pick a number and ENJOY.

Oh, and whatever you do, do NOT walk through a village in either country during evening prayers.

The staffs the men hold - the men who are standing along the side of the road at set intervals - those staffs are NOT decorative.

Tahiti is the official name for the island and there is not another listed name. The capitol is Papeete and it is located in the Pacific Ocean.

The 169 islands of the Kingdom of Tonga have an estimated area of 289 square miles (742 km2). Only 36 of the islands have a resident population, at a density of about 360 residents per square mile (139 per square kilometer).

The largest island, Tongatapu, has an area of 99 square miles (257 km2), and the next largest islands include four or five about 25 to 35 square miles each.

Chiefs are not selected as may be the case in other Polynesian societies. Also there are no longer any "High Chiefs" as there were in the past, but they have been replaced by Nobles which is pretty much one and the same. To become a Noble, one has to born into Hou'eiki (Chiefly) class and then be appointed a Noble title by the reigning monarch. Social Mobility in Tonga is rare.

Samoa and Tonga have met in Rugby internationals 37 times. Samoa has won 20 of these encounters, Tonga has won 15 and they have drawn twice.
