I own a pickup truck. It is rated as a half ton truck for cargo. If oak firewood has a density of 50 lbs per cubic foot, what volume of firewood can I carry in my truck? Can I just pile it on to the top of the rails, or will I overload the truck?

Gravel has a density of 140 lbs per cubic foot. I need to fill in a drive way that is 120 feet long by 16 feet wide to a depth of 3 inches. How many cubic feet can I safely haul in my pickup? How many trips do I have to make to get all the gravel for the project?

Math gets much better once you get past trigonometry into Calculus. You learn trig to help with many things later in life. (Believe me you will use it). Calculus can be used to describe ANYTHING, and is so powerful that you will be amazed when you learn it. Things that you thought you could never understand because they were too difficult suddenly you can. So just keep plugging away at trigonometry and I promise it will get better and they will be the most important things you learn in school.

In advanced mathematics, familiar trigonometric ratios such as sine, cosine or tan are defined as infinite series.

For example, sin(x) = x - x3/3! + x5/5! - ...

Such series are used to calculate trig ratios and the proof of their their convergence to a specific value depends on calculus.

In the simplest case, a geometric probability is one that is given in terms of the ratio of two areas. For example, suppose a parachutist could land anywhere on a 10 square kilometre area of open country with equal probability, and you wanted to know how probable it would be that the parachutist would land on a designated area of 2 square kilometres with that part of open country.

Then the probability would be 2 / 10 = 0.2

The same principles apply in more and more difficult or complex cases, and in spaces of higher dimension. For instance, one can discuss geometric probabilities involving three-dimensional space.

Ladders are used typically for reaching high distances. When one is not tall enough for such height, the ladder is strategically placed as to ensure the safety and the well being of the reacher. Step-ladders are aproximately smaller then regular ladders and usually used to reach things on high shelves or on top of fridge/ovens or to reach cookie jars by five year olds. Ladders can be used to put up Christmas tree stars, Christmas lights, and oversized satellite dishes on the roof of your house. You may purchase a ladder or step-ladder at your local Lowes or Home Depot or department stores.
