Trumpet

A trumpet valve is a cylindrical fitting with holes bored in it to match the tubing corresponding with the valves position on the horn. As each valve is moved in correlation with the other valves, and its adjacent tubing, the length of the horn is changed to alter the pitch. (Theoretically, you are tuning the instrument to a different pitch with each "fingering.")

The list price of a T602 Holton Trumpet is $1099, but it can be found at discount stores for about $699. A good rule of thumb for a used instrument is about 1/2 of that cost, or about $350. I would suggest asking that for an instrument in excellent shape, or less for instruments that show more use.

The brass is bemt manualy and mechanicly to form the shape. The main tube with the bell is made seperatly. They fill it with a soapy solution and freeze it. One the solution is frozen, the can bend the metel without it buckeling. The bell shape is formed by bending the metel, and later hammering it, but to make the shape round, they spin the whole thing (when it is still unbent) and smooth it out. The other tubes and valves are attached to the bent main tube later.

The horn reached its first wave of popularity in the 18th century with the technique we call hand horn playing. The horn player filled in the gaps of the natural harmonic series by inserted the hand it the bell and either sharpening or flattening the harmonics enough to play diatonically and chromatically int he middle range of the instrument. This made the horn the most popular solo instrument of the brass family. We have 4 concerti by Mozart (plus 3 more fragments), concerti by F.J. Haydn, and many by A. Rossetti. Giovanni Punto was the star hornist of that era and Mozart's friend. Joseph Leitgeb was the hornist for whom he wrote his concerti.

That is an extremely difficult question to answer because it depends on several factors, such as, where you are located, what type of band or orchestra you play in, and what you qualifications are.

King trumpets in the 1930's 1950's used to be one of the best.

These days the brand name belongs to Besson. Like all manufacturers they have their high prices artist instruments which are usually hand crafted and their cheap low end 'made in China trumpets'.

Personally having owned a few modern silver flairs and vintage ones I find that there is no comparison in sound and quality of build with the old 1950's horns. The modern Kings are dry in comparison to the vintage horns.

If I were going to buy a modern intermediate horn I'd probably go for Yamaha or a Bach Strad. If I wanted a pro level horn and it had to be a King I'd probably buy a beaten up King Golder,Silver flair or a King liberty and have it fully rebuilt.

You just can't beat a horn built in the swing and jazz heyday for quality of build and sound.

The good sound on a trumpet usually comes with practice. You need to patient with yourself. While learning to read music, you can play bugle calls. Your facial and core (diaphragm, abs, ribs) muscles need to develop strength and control. It's usually not the trumpet. Some things that can make it sound poorly are, saliva buildup, drain through the levers at the end of the bends, and sticky valves, make sure they are lubricated and move freely.

There are these things on the end of the slides of the trumpet, near the bell, called spit valves. Press on it and blow fast air through the horn. The spit will then come out on to the floor. Make sure you clean it up! :) Do you play the trumpet? If so, how long have you been playing? Letting spit sit in your trumpet is not good for it. If will mess up the sound and tone. Make sure you empty the spit valves ASAP!

I recently got a Wurzbach student model from Buy.com and it is meeting my expectations fully. I normally march with a Jupiter/Bach in a high school band and can say it easily matches up with higher-end intermediate and pro models. Great for beginners and also experienced players.

Some do and others never do. We have no nerves on the inside so it often feels better just masturbate on the outside.

A B flat is fingered with just the first valve down.

For starters, it's the lowest note with a fingering of one. Then, it's also an octave above that note, and an octave above that. All are first valve; you just have to tighten your embouchure.

I had a nice Bach trumpet for several years, they don't need a lot of maintenance. The main thing you can do to preserve it is to keep it in the case as much as possible so it doesn't get dented -- dents are death, or at least a major expense. next is good quality brass polish, preferably the kind made for brass instruments rather than doorknobs. There are cork pads on some of the spit valves, etc., which should be replaced periodically, and of course, you need to keep the spit blown out as much as possible. The only other main priority is the valves, keep them well-oiled at all times, do not let them rust, as I remember it is some kind of mineral oil --- specially made for brass instrument valves -- don't try to substitute something else to save money. If you're lucky enough to have a silver Bach, be sure to keep it polished with the right kind of polish. Sometime the little braces will come unbrazed and get loose, just take it to a qualified shop to have it repaired. A well made trumpet can last a lifetime, the only problem is, in order to ever be any good, you have to practice several hours a day, every day, for the rest of your life -- when you stop practicing for any length of time, you set yourself back for months. The trumpet is one of the most difficult instruments to master for that reason, the amount of daily effort that has to go into it. I used to be able to play a high C, but lost it very quickly. Now I play guitar, I can not play for weeks at a time and actually be as good or better than I was before. I hope you stick with it, it can be really a great skill to have.

That may remain an unknown, Buddy Bolden was an early inovator with the coronet, and may deserve the title. Jazz existed and was routinely played and anjoyed in New Orleans before "Jelly Roll" Morton and Joe "King" Oliver who are also given credit for this American musical art form.

You know who ever asked this question its a very good question. I bought my trumpet brand new. I'd say all you have to do is go to a music store and ask them what brand it is. Look on your case (if you have one) it should say the brand name like bach, or Yamaha since they do that on their older instruments

Al Hirt played Leblanc and later Courtois "Al Hirt" model horns. Models 707 sonic and model 207. These horns were made in Paris. Courtois is still in business today and no longer has an affiliation with the Leblanc makers. He played and endorsed "jet tone" Al Hirt model mouth peices. In the very early days he played the Martin Commitee horns.

Short answer: 140-147cm for a Bb trumpet According to a 2003 article (link below) by the International Trumpet Guild, the expected length of tubing in a Bb trumpet is 147cm. However, multiple independent measurements of actual Bb trumpets found an actual length of about 140cm.

"Soloist"

A bass trumpet sounds in the register of a baritone, exactly one octave below that of a normal b-flat trumpet. The bore size (diameter of the tubing) of the bass trumpet is considerably greater than that of a normal b-flat trumpet, and the bell size and slide length will all be similarly increased. The mouthpiece of the Bass Trumpet also resembles a Trombone/Baritone mouthpiece.

The piano is a C instrument.

The trumpet is a B flat instrument.

Thus, to transpose piano notes to trumpet notes, you have to put each note up one whole step.

If piano -> trumpet:

A -> B

B flat -> C

B -> C sharp

C -> D

C sharp -> D sharp

D -> E

E flat -> F

E -> F sharp

F -> G

F sharp -> G sharp

You need to have a creative mind and a visual impact of things in different ways. you need to have an eye for details and a god colour vision. and of course, stamina and patience. if you don't have those basic skills, you are dead in cartoons!!!

All you do is blow tons of air,and make sure your lips are in a tight formation and then just hope for the best.If you practice this often it will become easier each time you play it(if you are doing it right).Also if you take lessons have your teacher help you with it.
