Actually, the modern trumpet wasn't invented until the late 19th century. The type of horn style trumpet with no valves was invented much earlier. The old battle horns are the same thing, except made from a horn not brass. The trumpet design originally had keys the same way a clarinet would. This instrument had a sound that was deeper and not as bright. When the modern trumpet with valves was made, the players of the old style absolutely hated it. Consequently the cornet was created, for those old players who liked the darker sound.

There's no way to tell you without seeing it in person... The value of a trumpet doesn't just depend on what brand it is. It depends on age, condition, playability, among other things. If you contact a reputable instrument repair shop in your area, they can likely either tell you how much it would be worth, or give you a rough estimate.

It depends on what you mean. The bugle and the trumpet are two different instruments, although they are similar. You can play bugle music or bugle calls on a trumpet. The music is played the same way any other trumpet music is played. Because of the way bugle calls are written, you can play all the notes in any given bugle call without having to use the valves.

that question is an easy one to answer. first name in my head is Louis Armstrong. he is known for pretty much inventing jazz on a trumpet. he is a great man in the world of jazz trumpet. the next one is King Oliver. he was also a great jazz trumpet player. there are many, many more, you just have to look.

The medieval trumpet you're thinking of would be the Herald Trumpet. It was a natural horn and could only play notes that would be considered "open valve" on today's modern trumpets.

In the late 1800's, the cornet was invented. It was like a bugle, but it had valves and slides. A little while later and the cornet was elongated to make the first modern trumpet.

Trumpets do not have a built in mouthpiece because not all mouthpieces work as well as others for different people. There are many very good mouthpieces. The best mouthpiece is the one that fits your mouth the best. IE: If you have thin lips, a deep/wide mouthpiece probably won't work well for you. If you have thick lips, a shallow/thin mouthpiece probably won't work well for you. Bach, Schilke, Monette, and several other companies make very good mouthpieces.
