How do you cope while your boyfriend is away to basic training?

This is critical.

Without offering judgment, your actions will affect everyone around you and will reverberate for years after the immediate situation. That being said, you wait. This has been the legacy of every loved one of every soldier since the first soldier went to war. There is nothing more to it. It is as simple as that, and it sums up everything you could and should do.

Here's the thing: without making suggestions or implications, a very common phenomenon for boot camp soldiers is the "Dear John" letter. The devastation this cowardly act creates is stunning. Soldiers who receive Dear John letters in such stressful environments have in the past lost all connection with reality. Some become so depressed as to take their own lives. Some strike out at their brother-in-arms around them. Some lose all connection and drift into full psychoses. I have personally witnessed the full range, and that was during the relatively low stress environment of a peacetime service.

A few points of advice:

  • If you loved him when he left, you still do. As much as you miss him, he misses you more. Write to him. Be available when he can call. Be supportive. Be strong. He needs that.
  • If you are uncertain, put your uncertainty on hold. Your life is about you, but you do not live in this world alone. Consider the effects your actions could have on him and everyone around him.
  • If you are certain that you want to end the relationship, quit being a selfish shrew. Consider that he has contributed to this relationship also. Consider unselfishly (if at all possible) that now is not the time for you to drop this bomb. Don't be a coward; wait until he comes home and he has family and friends around to help him put back together the life you shredded.
This is harsh in places, and for that I apologize, but reality is harsh; diplomacy is a wasted effort if the message is lost. Just consider that what ever you are going through right now, he is experiencing it too, and on top of that, he is several hundred miles away from home, surrounded by strangers, living through one of the toughest times of his life. So, wait.

What is proper attire for basic training graduation?

Depends on what the graduation is from, exactly. If you're graduating from Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training, or One Station Unit Training, you'll wear whichever uniform you're directed to - usually Class A or Class B uniform, although you might have to wear BDUs.. well, ACUs now.. if you're tasked to perform a demonstration of sorts for the spectators.

If you're graduating from jump school, PLDC, BNCOC, air assault school, etc., you'll probably be wearing ACUs.

If you're attending a graduation, you wear whatever. It's not a black tie affair.

Where did the name boot camp come from?

Actually more of an identification of those attending boot camp. They wore navy issue shoes with white lace up leggings over the top that where mid way up to the knee, hence "Boots" or "Boot camp".

How long was army basic training in 1983?

In 1983, Army basic training typically lasted about 8 weeks. This duration could vary slightly depending on the specific training program or the individual's military occupational specialty. During this time, recruits underwent rigorous physical training, instruction in military skills, and preparation for their roles in the Army.

What is the basic training for army?

It varies among the different training sites. Typically it consists of Red Phase, White Phase, and Blue Phase. Each phase is about 3 weeks long and each phase has different priorities for training as well as the level of treatment from the Drill Sergeants.

In the first phase you'll find yourself not talking very much. Socializing is almost taboo and if it is not, it will feel that way to you. You are expecting to hear someone scream at you at any moment. It puts you on edge and quickly makes you realize you need to drastically change your attitude if you are going to get through this phase. This phase is generally when the Confidence Tower is done... climbing and sometimes repelling from a 40-60 foot high wall.

In White Phase this is generally when rifle marksmanship takes place. You will shoot many many rounds throughout BCT. The drill sgts may have eased up by now but do not make the mistake of thinking they are your friends.

Blue Phase is the "Sr" phase. 2 out of 3 of your drill sgts are most likely very relaxed compared to the other one.

It is very difficult to give an answer to this question because so many BCTs are drastically different, and they are changing rapidly as it becomes more and more soft. The bottom line is this: BCT is easy. It is pushups and listening to someone scream. The screaming is slowly going away even. I would do it every summer for fun if I could. Just go there with a positive attitude and do everything they tell you and you will be fine.

Where are the army boot camp located?

The only U.S. Navy Basic Training center left in the U.S is at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes (Illinois). NTC San Diego and Orlando were closed in the '90's as part of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process.

What was it like at a military boot camp?

It depends on the branch. I went through Marine Corps bootcamp from May to August. Bootcamp was well worth it for me but it was a challenge. The Drill Instructors were relentless. All they knew was discipline and only accepted perfection. The training is physical and mental with the stresses on time and perfection. The first month was alot of mental challenges and we pt'd (physical training) alot. The next few weeks were spent mostly at the rifle range learning how to fire a rifle and the basics of rifle marksmanship; we also spent some time in field training during Basic Warrior Training learning basic combat maneuvers in day and night environments. The final weeks were a return to pt. Bootcamp ended with The Crucible. a 54 training exercise that included 50+ miles of hiking, about 7 hours of sleep total and three meals ready to eat (MRE's). Training exercises here were a culmination of all we had been taught from combat maneuvers to core values and teamwork. Alot of challenge but it made me a better person and I wouldn't change a thing.

How long is boot camp for the army?

ARNG Basic Training is the same duration as Regular Army and Army Reserve Basic, nine weeks. boot is broken up into three phases, Red, White, and Blue, which are each divided into two levels.

* During Red Phase One, recruits are introduced to Army life, culture, and discipline, and recruits are inoculated, and processed (receive equipment, and uniforms--issue--and all paperwork is prepared and completed). * In Red Phase Two, recruits are indoctrinated as a unit. Soldiers learn to move together in cooperation through Drill and Ceremony, physical training, and are introduced to the obstacle courses. In or about week three, recruits are introduced to NBC training by experiencing first hand the gas chamber. * White Phase One introduces BT soldiers to the M16A2. Soldiers are schooled in BRM (Basic Rifle Marksmanship). With 16 rounds, recruits are required to zero and group. Zeroing consists of sighting in and learning to hit a target (much esier than it sounds for many enlistees); grouping consists of placing six rounds in two groups (a closely arranged pattern) on target. * White Phase Two consists of tower repelling and hand to hand combat training. Soldiers are instructed in and practice rope repelling from a tower, and are coached and directed in hand to hand techniques using pugil sticks to simulate fighting techniques with the M16 without ammunition. * Blue Phase One introduces soldiers to other squad level weapons. Soldiers are instructed in the basic maintenance and firing of the 50 cal. machine gun, the M203 grenade launcher, the M240B and M249SAW machine guns, the Mark 19 tripod mounted grenade launcher, and the AT4 (M136) shoulder fired anti-tank weapon. Additional training is given in tactics and use of the M16. * Blue Phase Two, the final weeks of training focus on NIT (Night Infiltration Training) and troop movement. Part of NIT is the live fire exercise in which troops move through obstacles under live weapons fire.

Basic Training is only the beginning of Army training and indoctrination. After graduation soldiers are moved on to AIT (Advanced Individual Training) during which they receive training for their MOS (Military Operational Specialty).

Do men and women train together at army boot camp?

You bet they are ... and for good reason.

It depends, sometimes they may have you in an intergrated platoon or division (division for the NAVY) or they may have you seperately from males and females. It depends in their "system" of training. As far as hygine (bathing) you are definitely separated; as well as sleeping. You may be intergrated for specific training purposes. Your baracks are totally separed aswell, but it depends on the system in which they may train you...but please REMEMBER: do not fraternize (get too "close" to others in your new family" you are there to train for a little while not to find a mate. It is only for a little while, then after you gradute bootcamp it becomes different. It is fun and you will enjoy it. Just remember it is all a mental and physical challenge that will set your mind to be prepare for all that may come, you will now serve our country and become one of the bravest men or women in the world. Thanks to all those who serve our country.

How difficult is boot camp?

Well, let's put it this way... if you're considering to join a military branch based upon how difficult of a bootcamp it has and you're looking for the easy route. The Coast Guard is not for you... or should I say, you're not Coast Guard material. There's a reason why it's the pickiest branch in the military and it only takes the most qualified recruits. How hard the boot camp is is usually determined by your Company Commanders. Some companies are easier than others; however, if you're put into a company with decicated CC's, you're in for a serious, rude wake-up call. USCG boot camp is physically demanding and mentally exhausting. I don't know one person who didn't at least once consider jumping the fence after the second week. There's a reason why we don't advertise ourselves like the other branches. Once you've completed boot camp, though, it is one of the most rewarding experiences. It challanges you in ways you thought you could be challanged and pushes you beyond all limits. You leave with a great sense of confidence, pride, honor, and respect. It really does change you for the better. And besides, it's just eight weeks. GO COAST GUARD!

To add: It's considered the second hardest basic training for U.S. military boot camps. It may be only eight weeks, but just imagine being completed changed from a normal civilian to a completely squared away military member. A lot of it is physically demanding, but the mental part is the main one you've got to worry about. You will get really sick, known as "the cape may crud." You will have to push through 6 plus weeks of being pretty sick and 20 hour days, people yelling in your face, running multiple miles, cold weather, hot weather. I stood at a wall facing our barracks...aka halls, for 3 hours because one guy in our company couldn't remember the vice president and that was just the beginning. Good luck joining if you think the coast guard is a piece of cake.

::: I went through Coast Guard Basic Training in January 1991. Many will tell you that it is the second toughest basic training, and they would be correct if you are talking only about the physical fitness aspect. The Coast Guard's basic training program also boasts the most difficult education program. Yes, you are learning and being educated while in boot camp. The Coast Guard Achieves their goal of basic training in 5 weeks less time than the average military force. That means they must not only break you down faster, they also have to build you back up quicker than the other branches. The end result is a squared away sailor who is ready to become an active member of a small unit operating independently, but as a small part of a larger force in the fight to secure our borders and protect the lives of those who venture out onto our waterways.

Do you believe you have what it takes? I saw 6 people quit while I was in basic training.

What is basic training for the Marines?

Where can you get non military boot camp training?

There are several survival training schools in the US and other countries where you can receive Boot Camp type training. Your other option in the US is to commit a state felony, typically a nonviolent crime, and receive a sentence of more than one year but less than two. Most state departments of correction have what they refer to as "boot camps" for juvenile first time offenders and adult nonviolent offenders.

What to do if you are going to Camp Victory in Port St Lucie?

I personally went there and it is hell. If your parents are sending you there ask what you can do to not go there. All of the stuff that they put on their website is a bunch of BS. They can literally do anything they f***ing want: they can beat you up, throw you on the floor, shove strange things in your mouth, tackle you to the floor, make you hug a tree, shoot you with a gun (they wont shoot you but they have guns), push you in the water, make you do EXTREME exercises, and things your parents will NEVER EVER do to you. You behave good for a while once you get out (or at least I did) but then your parents will start threatening you that they will send you back there if you mess up a little bit. To prevent my identity I cannot put to much information about myself in case one of the people from the camp read this. You are also forced to do everything else and if y you are going there and are hiding stuff, during the 3rd week they go through your tent and leave it open for ants and other animals to get inside your tent and they will search your tent for anything you might be hiding (Ex. stuff from the MRE's, money, drugs, and form of weapon, etc.) and if you are caught you will have to run laps a lot (you probably run total for about....4-7 miles straight, it depends what mood they are in, my 1st year it was 7, 2nd was 4, and 3rd felt like 20 but it probably wasn't). Anyways, they can do whatever they want to you and you do NOT want to go there.

How do you get a marine back when you cheated on him when he was in boot camp?

If he was just in boot camp, he wasn't gone long and that means you either need therapy or to seriously grow up before you attempt another serious relationship. You can't "win someone back" after betraying them that way. If you can, it'll never be the same anyway and you'll end up splitting due to trust issues. Take it as a life lesson... you reap what you sew. Your heart is broken of your own doing, and the sooner you understand that, the sooner you'll be able to engage in a meaningful relationship where you have less chance of self destructing. Just call me "tough love" Dr. Phil of the internet tonight, but face the facts.
