It depends on the type. Some forms of vampires do have a pulse, but some don't. For example, the vampires in Twilight do not have a pulse but the vampires in Queen of the Damned do. Really, it depends on the species

Why do vampires need blood?

they need blood to sustain their undead bodies a.ka. they need it to stay alive

Only a minority of vampires are blood suckers. The defining trait of a vampire is something that steal life energy. This has been accomplished in many difference ways by many different types of creatures.

.........................................................

Added on............................................

Vampires are considered dead, undead or the living dead....

As such they cannot create something called HEMOGLOBIN (or haemoglobin), this is created within living creatures and is the main part of red blood cells...

(They drink blood to obtain hemoglobin.)

This is used to transport the necessary items to the rest of your body, for example your muscles.

Vampires will become worn down, drained, movement may suffer and may even appear ill if they do not receive the sufficient materials from the red blood cells.

also, because they are undead, they don't have a heart beat which means that they don't have blood. and even the undead need blood to survive. so they needed to find a way to get that blood and they found humans.

What can kill a vampire?

If someone is suspected to be a vampire, but you are unsure you must first determine if they are truly a blood sucking demon. To do this, offer them a walk in the sunlight, if they refuse then make some spaghetti with garlic and try to get them to eat it, if they refuse to do this also ask them to go to church with you on Sunday. If they also refuse that then they are Vampires. The things I mentioned earlier are in fact some things that can kill a vampire. Sunlight will burn them alive, unless they are day-walkers(most are not so do not worry.) Garlic will burn their insides, it might not kill them but it is enough to hold them at bay so you can get something that will kill them. Holy water and crosses also works like garlic, a large amount may not be enough to kill them, but will in fact give you those extra seconds you need. If you really want to kill them dead, you need a steak. Not the meat kinda steak, but like a sharp pointed stick. Stab them directly in their heart and DO NOT remove it. Have fun Vampire killing.

How long do vampires live and why?

THEY DON'T EXIST.

Vampires are immortal, meaning they can live forever. that is unless they are gruesomely attacked by a fellow vampire. Others believe you can burn them and they would die.

A vampire, no matter if you're going from the Cullen-style vampires to the ones (supposedly) in Translyvania, always walks gracefully. For articles and how-tos and being graveful, check out Wikihow.com. A vampire is also very quiet and stealthy, because it needs to be quiet because, well, its a super-predator.

Hope this helped. :)

What is the name of a half werewolf and half vampire?

They are called werepire . Usually an equal balance of werewolf genetics and vampire genetics. In some cases, one set of genes will be more powerful, resulting in a slightly more advanced wearpaire. If the vampire gene is stronger or more dominant, the wearpaire will have a stronger craving for blood. If the werewolf gene is stronger or more dominant, the werepire will notice more of an affinity with the lunar cycle. To become a werewolf, you must be introduced to the alien genetic material which will manifest itself within the host. The same goes for becoming a vampire, or have the venom of a vampire enter your bloodstream and spread throughout your body. depending on the amount and the person who has been infected, the change can take anywhere from a few minutes, to a few days. Never in my 623 years of life, have i seen a transformation take longer than four days.

I am just adding this.in my 8999 (almost 9000!) years of life i have seen many werepires like this including me. it doesnt make any difference between the two though you woukd have all of the powers for both ----

wearpaire... They're really rare, though.

______________________________________________________________________

I call them werepires. The same term could apply to half-vampires, half- other were-beings like werecats, werefoxes etc, in theory. As "were" is "man" but "vampire" does not split easily, "werepire" is just the simplest term to apply to anything half-vampire and half-were creature.

It does depend on what you define vampires and werewolves as. Apparently all who have lived over 500 years like to remove other people's answers... >.> Has to make you wonder if they're feeling insecure about something.

Dhampirs are half vampires half human half vampire

What can a vampire turn into?

Crudman, please stop writing "false" after my answer and "true" after yours.

Nothing. Contrary to popular belief, vampires must stay in their humanoid form forever. false! any predetory animal (most commonly a bat) and normal or black fog. true!

Shape-shifting is not a common trait among vampires. Count Dracula changed into a dog, a bat, a pack of rats, even a green mist but this was not because he was a vampire but because he was a high level sorcerer as well. Due to Dracula's fame shape-shifting has become a popular theme in the vampire genre but it should be now viewed as a cliche.

Even Dracula's fangs were a part of his unique abilities. The vast majority of real vampires don't have them and must resort to a number of different and ordinary means to get at blood: knives, prods, nails, etc.

How many vampires are walking around today?

One "census" of people having vampire characteristics gave the total number at 2356, but the anonymous survey cannot be confirmed. Worldwide estimates were being kept as late as 1992, but have not been updated since.

---

It depends on if you believe in Vampires. Scientifically, they don't exist, but there are many people (deluded or otherwise) who believe they are "vampires". Others (especially impressionable young people) have fantasies about being a vampire, at least as they appear in some of the popular roles.

The difficult part would be defining exactly what a vampire is supposed to be, since the various film and videos vary EXTREMELY in their depictions, from murderous demons (Blade) to reclusive clans of immortals (Twilight).

Why do vampires fear holy water?

Vampires fear holy water because according to the legends, holy water burns their skins causing them to be in great agony.

Why do vampires fear garlic and holy water and crosses and stakes?

How do you know if you are a real vampire?

I just realized this is a perfect lead in for my new act:

You know you are a vampire if...
  • You fall suddenly out of a novel written by Bram Stoker, Anne Rice, or perhaps Stephanie Meyer.
  • You end all sentences with, "Blah, blah, blah."
  • You ask for your spaghetti without garlic.
  • You avoid garlic dipping sauce when you order bread sticks.
  • Churches and cemeteries make you nervous or jumpy.
  • When you climb into bed, you really climb in and shut the lid.
  • Your wardrobe is limited to blacks and whites, and you persist in sporting that out of fashion cape.
  • You find it difficult to brush your hair or teeth...no reflection.
  • You do not tan.
  • When you encounter priests and nuns on the street, you feel compelled to cross to the other side.
  • When you get heartburn, it is usually accompanied by splinters.
  • You wake at night to a large group of neighbors in your front yard with pitchforks and torches.
  • You have a compulsive desire to count things. Ah Ah Ah Ah!
  • Running water makes you nervous
  • You only visit if invited, and often outstay your welcome.
  • A picnic for you usually happens at night and typically includes only one other person.

How to dress like a vampire?

Vampires like wearing tight, comfortable clothes that don't make a lot of noise. Vampires like to wear black clothes. Wear blood red lipstick, purple eyeshadow about and below the eye, and are always pale.

AnswerI think it also depends on what type of vampire you want to be. Most modern day vampires dress with a vintage look. You can find vintage/goth-type styles in second hand stores for really cheap, or you can find a HotTopic in your nearest mall. There are a lot of places online that sell clothes like these, in addition to accessories like vampire fangs, contacts, and nails.

Are any vampires myths based on facts?

It's known as porphyria, and it still occurs today. Others include haemophilia (and the association with drinking blood), hyperphotosensitivity (being adverse to sunlight in any amount) and several minor diseases that cause paleness and reduced activity during the day.

How do you know if your a vampire?

There is no specific way to tell. It varies with every person. Some can get energy just by walking by, sitting near, or touching someone. Others need to consume blood for energy, and another type is one that doesn't need to consume it, but touch it for energy. Most vampyres either have very vibrant eyes (meaning the color is very noticable), dark eyes (very dark, almost blending with the pupil), or eyes that are so blue they almost look white (like a blue gray). Blue eyes and brown eyes are the most common. Vampyres do not need to consume blood. Most vampyres are very pale, if you cannot tan though you are out in the sun a lot could be a sign; if you burn easy. Eyes may be overly sensitive to light. Sight, taste and hearing may be very good. Even so, it doesn't have to be, you could wear glasses or be blind or deaf and still be a vampyre. You may be able to run or jump long distances or you may not. You may be very strong but have never worked out or exercised a day in your life, or you could be very weak. You could get in a lot of accidents and walk away unscathed, or you could be damaged for the rest of your life. You may be able to smell blood and you might not be able too. You could have been changed or born a vampyre; depending on anything, you could have gotten the gene from an ancestor or you could be the first, you could pass it on or it could stay within only you. To a doctor, your blood would seem like anyone elses. You can be seen in mirrors, stakes through the heart will kill anyone, silver doesn't burn, neither do crucifixes, holy water isn't real (just purified bottled water), you can eat and drink regular food, flying is crap (don't jump off your roof - flying may not exist but gravity does - you're not Criss Angel). You can have fangs or regular teeth. There is still no proof of the existence of immortals. A vampyre could be anyone - a geek, a grandma, a mother, a kid, a prep, a friend; even an actor/actress or singer. There never really is a way to know. But human or not, always carry something to protect yourself. Feel free to believe anything written here, considering a vampyre answered it. (;

What year and where did the idea of vampires start?

I suppose that the very first legends began in Europe possibly in medieval times with Vlad Dracul. Though the vampire myths have spread across to countries such as Asia and South America, they all have their own take, theories, and names for vampires. Not totally positive on the year, but it was around medieval times or a little later. The vampire 'theme' goes all the way back into the earliest myths and legends. Consider the concept of the incubus and succubus from Greek mythology. This put the vampire all the way back into the bronze age.
