There's not much difference to the normal user. However, to those more concerned with how it works, there are some differences.

A COM file is self-contained and cannot exceed 64KB in size because the stack, data, and code must all fit within 64KB. EXE files have no limiting size and have more header information.

The main difference is how they are loaded. When a COM file is loaded by DOS, it is loaded into low memory. EXE files separated where the CONST is loaded low and DATA is loaded high.

Also, if you have both, say EXAMPLE.COM and EXAMPLE.EXE, in the same directory and try to execute without specifing the extention, the COM will load first.

To fix your browser settings, you must go into your "tools" or "help" section in the top of your browser. This cannot change your IP address or anything else that is permanent, though, just small things.

Internet Explorer, mostly since at that time google chrome and opera or maybe even firefox either didn't exist or were too new, IE was also the default for pcs, which were more popular, and still are, than macs so IE beat safari. Also, Internet Explorer 9 is faster now. People say chrome is faster, but on slow systems, based on personal experience and proof, IE is too slow to use(unless you disable add-ons), but on newer, faster systems, IE IS better. There is no current version of Internet Explorer available for the Mac. Internet Explorer for the Mac was discontinued in 2003 and Microsoft recommends "that users migrate to more recent web browsing technologies such as Apple's Safari." Other alternatives (that are faster and safer than Internet Explorer) include FireFox, Chrome or Opera. (See links below)

There is actually a very easy way to find Internet history, that few people know about. Even if you are very careful about deleting your Internet history, all the sites you have visited are stored in a temporary archive, called the 'DNS Cache'.

To access this DNS Cache and view the files, you click on the 'Start' button, and can do two things.

Click 'Run' in the start menu, or if it isn't there hold down the 'Windows' key and the 'R' key at the same time. This will bring up a little box. In that box, type in cmd.exe and click 'OK'. A black box will come up now, with a line of writing. You don't need to click anything, just type ipconfig /displaydns and click 'Enter'.

Now, a list of sites you have visited will come up. If you don't want anyone to see that, you'll have to type in ipconfig /flush dns. If you did this correctly, this will come up:

You will NEVER be able to hide your Internet history from the police; computers don't allow that. But, this will trick other people, and normal police, into thinking you haven't even been on the Internet in a few months.
