How long do you leave a baked wedding cake before you ice it?

As with any cake, let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before removing. After 10 minutes, the cake should contract and come out of the pan easier. Once removed from pan, place onto a wire rack to cool until it is a room temperature. Once at room temperature, you will be best able to ice the cake without the icing melting.

How do you slice a 14 inch cake?

Any square or rectangle cake should be sliced straight across the cake from side to side to produce square or rectangle pieces. A nice variation is to slice the cake diagonally to produce diamond-shaped pieces.

> A 14" ROUND cake can be cut in concentric circles working from the outside inward. First cut an 8" circle, centered on the cake and about 3" in from the outside. An 8" cardboard circle or a plate may be used as a guide. Cut slices from this outer circle as you would on a smaller cake; each slice will have a portion of the frosting. You now have an 8" cake remaining which can also be sliced as you would any round cake.

> A 14" ROUND cake can also be cut directly side to side. Most of the slices will be squares or rectangles, but there will also be a number of irregular pieces that can be set aside or given to children as treats.

Can a wedding cake be just 1 layer?

no .. a wedding cake can be lots of layers

Should highly decorated wedding cakes be dense?

  • No, it is not necessary to have a highly dense wedding cake if it has a great deal of decorations. Example: The wedding cake can be made as a normal cake; carrot cake, etc., and on the semi-soft icing the baker can put frosting flowers on it, but live flowers are also very popular and do not weight that much. If the decorations are elaborate and fairly weighty then it is the hardness of the icing that will support the decorations.

Can you post wedding cake to Australia?

  • It wouldn't be a good idea to post a wedding cake to Australia as it would most likely be ruined and not keep on the long journey. The cake could be ordered by you and delivered by a good bakery in Australia. The only cake that would travel well is fruit cake (which was very popular several years ago) but the more modern cakes of today are finer cakes and not as heavy. If you feel a fruit cake for the wedding would be appropriate and appreciated then make it up (soak it in brandy for at least 2 - 4 months ... the longer the better) then ship the cake over to Australia and have a bakery ice the wedding cake. Be sure to have a professional package the wedding cake for you so it will endure the journey.

Why are cakes used for wedding cakes and birthday cakes?

Until recently, the necessary sugar, eggs and other ingredients required to bake a cake were fairly expensive and regarded as luxuries by most people. Cakes also required time and effort which working people could not easily spare. Some cakes require extensive beating that was very difficult and time consuming before electric mixers became common in home kitchens. So elaborate cakes were served only on very special occasions, such as weddings, and simpler cakes were enjoyed for birthdays and when entertaining guests.

In a wedding cake are whole eggs used or egg whites?

Sedges, rushes and reeds, growing alongside the well-known papyrus were twisted and braided into rings for fingers and larger bracelets for wrists.

What is the average price on a wedding cake for 150 people?

It depends on the vendor but generally for 150 people you need a 3 or 4 tier cake. Wedding cakes cost approximately 100 to 150 per tier.

The price depends on what your cake is decorated with and how detailed it is. If you want fresh flowers on your cake those are often considered extras and can cost more (an alternative to this is to get flowers from your florist whom will provide them for less than if the cake designer were to do so)

Doing some quick math that amounts to about 300 to 600 dollars for 150 people.
