What traditionally are the groom's parents responsible to pay for during the wedding planning and wedding?

Parents of the Groom

Traditionally, contribute financially to the following:

-Purchasing engagement ring/bride's wedding ring

-Rehearsal Dinner the night before the wedding

-Honeymoon

It would be very offensive to the bride's family for the groom or his family to offer to pay for anything else, unless it is under very special circumstances.

The groom's family is NOT obligated under any circumstance to pay for alcohol, except the alcohol at the rehearsal dinner! If it is agreed that alcohol be served at the reception, it goes on the bride's parents' tab!

Parents of the Bride

The bride's parents may be responsible for hosting the wedding, if they will be completely financially responsible for the event. In some cases, the father of the bride escorts his daughter down the aisle alone, but in other instances or in religious ceremonies, both parents may accompany the bride. In all cases, it's her preference. The mother of the bride may help fund or contribute to the planning of the bridal shower if the Maid of Honor needs assistance. These parents may also foot the cost of an engagement party or dinner to meet the groom's family.

The old tradition is that the Groom's parents should pay for the alcohol. Since there are always those few that make pigs of themselves when the alcohol is free it's acceptable to give tickets to the bar for two free drinks (legal for driving after a meal of course.) Some father's pay the whole bar bill, but it can be expensive. Since there are so many divorced parents now and one may be a single parents the above suggestions are right on.

The rehearsal dinner

It is perfectly acceptable and tradition for the the parents of the groom, (or groom), to also be financially responsible for the

-marriage license

-Brides bouquet

-Transportation of Bride and Groom after reception (get-away car; limo)

-Transportation of Groomsmen to ceremony

-Grooms/Groomsmen formal wear

-Boutonnieres for groom/groomsmen

-Corsages for bride and brides family

-The bar tab at the reception.

Additionally, it's perfectly acceptable for the grooms parents and/or the brides parents not to pay any of the associated costs of the wedding if the couple to be are being disrespectful little pigs.

Traditionally, the bride's parents paid for the ceremony and reception, the bride's attire, and her dowry. The groom's parents paid for the rehearsal dinner and the officiant, and sometimes the alcohol. The groom paid for the honeymoon and the rings.

For the most part, these traditions went out the window when women stopped being property of her father and then husband, and when the couple stopped getting married right out of their parents' homes. Today, anything goes. Typically, the couple pays for a large portion, and sometimes the parents gift whatever they can afford to help out, sometimes in exchange for control over some portion of the planning. No one has any duties or responsibilities other than the couple.

I think the question was for reception, per person and the average price would be around $135.00 to $175.00 per person. This would/ should include for that price- 5 hour reception, a cocktail reception with drinks and h'orderves for the first hour and than a 4 hour dinner reception that follows. Prices will vary on what you choses as far as food, a top shelf bar, chair covers etc.

As far as decent wedding video the price would be from $3,500 on up. For decent wedding photos the price would be $4,500 and up. A good D.J. which this is very important ( It can make or brake your party ) would be $3,500 on up. A good live band... plan on $12,000 on up. Flowers ...depends, if you need them for tables at the reception.....how many bridesmaids, ushers, flower girls, both mothers, Church/ceremony site, type of flowers you pick etc.....average around $4,500 on up. Limo would be $2,300 on up. Invitations would be around $900.00 on up. Again depends on what you pick and how many you need. The Wedding dress and alterations at the low point would start at $2,000 on up. This does not include the veil or shoes. The rings/bands is a personal choice but low end around $1,000 and on up. There are many personal touches you can do/add to make your wedding special and beautiful. On the whole an average nice wedding total will be around forty five to fifty five thousand dollars. Again this is just an average.

Do you have to give back engagement ring?

  • When a man gives an engagement ring to the one he loves at that time and they split up the woman in question does not have to give the ring back as it was a gift to her. However, if the ring is a family heirloom it would be nice of her to give the ring back.

Actually this is based off of your state's laws and sometimes, if it goes to court, the judge's verdict. In many states, the engagement ring is used as a symbol of two people entering into a contract to get married. If they do not follow through with the contract (no marriage) then the ring must be returned to the person that bought it. The ring does not belong to the woman until she is married. It is not a "gift." It is a symbol of a contract.

Conclusion : Yes You should give engagement rings.

Wow... I'm both fascinated and horrified by this question. Please let me know how you fare in this venture.

In order to MC a wedding receptionyou need to know the Wedding MC duties which range from welcoming the wedding guests...introducing the wedding party...announcing the First Dance and cake cutting ceremony...and giving the final farewell. The Wedding Master of Ceremoniesmight also be asked to give a Wedding MC Speech to the bride and groom which would be part of the wedding mc duties.

Do send the shower invitation or wedding invitations first?

Shower invitation first, as the Shower will precede the wedding.

AlternativelySend the wedding invitations first. That date is hard won, set in stone and guests need as much time as possible to organize their lives around it. Agreed, the shower does precede the wedding but it is a less formal, smaller, more intimate, often house or restaurant based affair that can be organized virtually at the drop of a hat. Unless, as in Europe, you change countries and really rip it up. Even so the best showers are pretty much unscripted. Normally the Chief bridesmaid / Matron of Honor would be the one to organize the 'girls' and be responsible for any invitations, keeping the bride out of the loop (for obvious reasons) as much as possible. It often works out that a quick 'ring around' to synchronize diaries is the only invitation necessary.

What are some reasons to get engaged?

There is absolutely only ONE reason to get engaged. Because you KNOW that you KNOW that you KNOW that this is the person you want to share your life with UNTIL DEATH DO YOU PART. There is no point to getting engaged unless that is the reason. You should NEVER feel obligated to get engaged (ie., pregnancy, because someone else wants you to, because you feel guilty) because this is a choice that will change your life forever. Before you get engaged make sure that you KNOW that this is the one person you are CHOOSING to share the rest of forever with.

A partial list:

--you have been in a solid relationship for at least a 1 1/2-2 years. You are not getting married for financial or social reasons, or as an "escape" from a current living situation.

---you trust, respect and love this person, and are concerned for their welfare. They feel the same way torwards you.

--if you don't see them for periods of time, you still feel the same, and you do not get bored as time goes on

--neither of you is abusive, verbally or psychically. Neither of you domineers the other.

--neither of you has been married repeatedly over the years, or has had numerous broken engagements.

--neither of you has had an affair while involved in your relationship. Neither of you has a history of cheating on all your partners.

--you agree on finances, how to live, whether to purchase a home or rent. You both can live within in a budget, and do not have serious financial problems.

--you agree on whether or not to have children, and how many to have

--you each get along with the other person's families.

When you pass the stage of infatuation and realise that this is the one with whom you not only allready without a doubt truly love, but with whom you also know your love has only just begun and that it will forever keep growing. If you can honestly belive you will cherish every moment even through troubled times with this person and you are willing to sacrifice your very heart and soul for this one. Then yes you are entitled to make a declaration of your lasting committment through engagement the eternal binding of your heart, mind & soul.

If you truly love each other, then waiting three years more shouldn't make a difference...If this is truly marriage material, then after three years it will still be wonderful...always wait three years from the moment you think its time...then youll see if it truly is. This advice is harsh but GOLD and can save ur life...u don't know how many ppls lives are wasted by wrong marriages.

If you have to ask...you'r not ready!!!

Every relationship is different because it is based on the values of the people involved. Abusive situations aside, "reasons" may not be the right word.

If you and your significant other find that you can bring each other joy over a sustained period of time, that you can support each other even when you don't want to (i.e., able to put another person before yourself), and that you can allow the other to help you shoulder burdens and sorrows, then you are probably mature enough to contemplate marriage.

If you are trying to determin if you want to and can spend the rest of your life with someone, then think about the least flattering or worst aspects of that person and your life with that person. Annoying habits can be worked around (like having separate blankets to avoid "blanket hog"arguements), and no one is free of personality flaws and annoying quirks. The question is, do you love this person enough (and them, you) to love them in spite of their faults? Can you balance your needs, the other person's needs, and your needs as a couple evenly? This is easiest when those needs align.

Think about what it will be like paying bills with this person, selecting a car with this person, arguing with this person of stupid things like toothpaste, talking about (possibly) uncomfortable things like politics, religion, prenuptual agreements, and sex. What can you expect things to be like if one of you suffers a great loss, like the death of a sibling, parent, or child? How would you two cope (together) if you both lost your jobs at the same time? What would happen if one spouse cheated on the other? Is that a deal-breaker?

Marriage is about the good as much as it is about getting through the bad. And it isn't getting through it, it is coping with it by relying on each other, which in turn strengthens your relationship for the next good or bad thing.

Be thoughtful. Be purposeful. Discuss together, in depth. And then decide.

Don't do something you'll regret, by either getting engaged, or by not getting engaged.

Just don't get comfortable with just being together as you are. I know alot of men that think that they can just go on for the rest of their lives as boyfriend and girlfriend, because it's "perfect". Don't kid yourself. If you have commitment issues you need to own up and tell your girl what you are thinking, and you need to do some real soul searching with what you really want out of life. This "perfect" setup you have now, won't last when you get to be 50, 80, or even 100 years old. You're going to want more later, and if you let your girl go because you can't commit, even if she treats you good and you love her and she loves you, you will regret it for the rest of your life.

Because you love that person and can't live without them

Because you have already decided to marry her.

What happens in a military wedding?

Military WeddingsIn the US, officers and NCO's can request an arch of sabers. If the groom is a member of the military, traditionally the woman will be swatted on her behind after passing under the arch of swords, and told "welcome to the [insert whatever branch here], ma'am". If the bride is the member of the military, this step is omitted. Brides in the military may opt for a wedding dress instead of military formal wear, but the groom will most likely always be in their most formal military uniform.

Only the bride and groom may pass under the arch. The rest of the wedding party does not.
