How old do you have to be to bench press?

Any time a person starts to lift they should wait until they have passed up their puberty years because heavy strains on the body before your done growing could cause a stunt in your growth but if your not worried about that with proper weight lifting gear and lifting tackicts there is really no age to begin whenever you feel comfortable with it.

Does creatine make you build muscle fast?

Creatine actually causes your muscle cells to absorb more water which makes them look bigger which gives us an illusion of extra size and mass. Effectively speaking, once you cut down on your creatine intake, the muscles would start releasing the excess water and you may end up feeling your muscles shrink in size. But, one good thing about creatine is that, it helps you gain that extra strength needed to do heavy workouts. Though it only packs water into our muscles, a properly administered dosage/cycle of creatine can help you in gaining weight and strength.

What is resistance in weight training terms?

It's hard to explain, so I'll put it this way.

Assuming you know what a Bench Press is, when you push up there is positive resistance. Say the bar ways 45 lbs and you have 55 lbs of weight plates then there is 100 lbs of positive resistance. When you let the bar down after you have pushed it up there is 100 lbs of negative resistance, because it is coming towards you, you are not working to push it up but rather to take it down.

About how much should a 12 year old be able to bench?

It is not recommend for a 12-year-olds to perform weightlifting, because it will not increase/enlarge their muscle. It MAY gain some strength, but not very significant. He/she should wait until he/she becomes 16. ..... It is all depends on that 12-year-old's strength and mostly on willpower. That child should start at 1 lbs and then progress 2, 3, 4 to 5 lbs or more.

How much can Ronnie Coleman curl?

Ronnie Coleman has now retired as the greatest bodybuilder ever. He was in his best all-time condition for the 2003 Mr. Olympia. His video "The Cost of Redemption" shows him doing barbell bench presses for multiple reps with a workout weight of 495 lbs. Therefore, he was very strong. Remember that the purpose of bodybuilding is not to lift as much weight as possible. Instead, the purpose of bodybuilding is to create the best physique possible, and resistance training is a means to that end. Typically, according to his book HARDCORE, Ronnie worked his chest twice a week using three sets of four different exercises. Only one of those eight exercises was barbell bench press, which means that he did them only once a week. Furthermore, he would typically do about 15 reps for each set. That is very different from the training of a power lifter who is training purely for strength. The goal for a power lifter is to lift as much weight as possible for just 1 rep. Had Ronnie chosen to train that way, he undoubtedly could have had a very heavy single bench press. However, training for power lifting is a foolish way to train for a competitive bodybuilder. It is unnecessarily dangerous and, in terms of muscular hypertrophy, much less beneficial. So, whatever his personal best bench press is, that heavy single surely would have been much higher if he had trained specifically to increase it. In fact, he didn't train that way, and there's no way to know what would have happened if he had.

Does weight lifting affect height growth?

Lifting weights above your head will not affect your height.

However it is not recommended that prepubescent or adolescent men/women do strength training. Building strong upper body muscles such as deltoids pecs trapezius biceps and triceps without building the proper muscles to support them can stunt spinal development, thus keeping you from being as tall as you could be.

Note: If you lift weights over your head and happen to drop one, the knot on the top of your head would indeed make you taller.

How much should forty year old man bench press?

I think I'm pretty average, however at 40 my bench pressing days were pretty much over. I was stupidly following what a couple of other guys were doing and caused considerable damage to my shoulders. we were lifting VERY heavy and maxing the bench twice a week. I was rapidly moving up for six months after starting by benching my body weight, soon I was at 315lbs. I acheived my top press at 405 when I was about maybe 35-37 yrs old. shortly after that I was experiencing pain in both shoulders severe enough to stop lifting all upper body. I'm currently only benching a little over my body weight (262) up to 285. take it slow, if your younger then 23, take it real slow wait until you reach your 'mature strength' which is after 23 in most guys. a blown out pect will cause you alot of pain, surgery, and at least a year of rehab.

What happened to muscles when you do weightlifting?

your body makes more muscle tissues, which makes you "Ripped" Where ever your working towards. When you start to feel a pain, it's because your body releases lactic acid when your not getting enough oxygen into your body when your working out. When this occurs, you should take a break and do some breathing exercises.

Do you gain weight when you work out because your muscles grow and if so how long before you see weight loss results?

* You gain weight if you are trying to grow larger muscles. I went from 212 to 260, this was all muscle and losing my gut. * If your worried about gaining weight just do at least 30 mins of cardio, drink lots of water, eat good and don't go heavy on the weights. * The key to weight loss is your diet, it does not matter if you lift heavy. Add in cardio and get a good diet. * When done correctly, and combined with the correct diet, weight training will increase your metabolism and lead to weight loss. It would also help if you did some mild cardio such as brisk walking, which will burn additional calories during and immediately after your walks. Done in moderation, it will not interfere with your strength training gains. For more in-depth information, see the page link, further down this page, listed under "Related Questions."

* Depending on your current lifestyle (activity level, diet) and training routine, results will vary. For instance, if you are a 5'8" (173 cm) male that weighs 165 lbs (75kg), you should probably not expect to lose any weight if you are working out. As muscle weighs more than fat, your BMI will probably only increase (or stay about the same) by starting a weight routine, increasing your overall mass (weight). On the other hand, if you are over 200-215 lbs at the same height, if you start to gain weight on a new workout routine, you are probably doing something wrong.

* If your goal is to lose weight, you should focus on high repetition sets with lower weights. This will define your muscles without getting overly bulky. Combine these type of exercises with High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and other cardio work. You can keep about the same diet as you regularly would, but decrease your fat consumption, and moderately increase your protein intake for muscle repair.

* If your goal is to gain weight, you will focus on higher weights with lower repetitions (NOTE: Beginners should always start a new weight routine with lower weights for 4-6 weeks before starting to "max-out" and increase weight - this will help to prevent injury). Again, combine with HIIT workouts, but less cardio work. Increase your protein intake to at least 1g/kg of body weight per day without worrying too much about your fat intake (unless you have a high fat diet - then make adjustments).

* Whatever your goal, if you decide to combine weight lifting with cardio (always a good idea - unless you are a competitive body builder), you should do cardio on your off days for lifting if at all possible. If you do them on the same day, do cardio in the morning well before your weight routine or do your cardio after your weight routine. Always give the muscle group that you worked ample time to recover and you will make better gains and prevent injury. An easy run day can be a recovery for a leg workout.

What is as light as a feather but even the worlds strongest man couldn't hold it for more then a minute?

The answer to this riddle is "breath." While breath is indeed light and intangible, even the strongest person can only hold their breath for a limited time, typically not exceeding a minute or so without discomfort or the need to exhale. This clever play on words highlights the contrast between physical strength and the natural limits of the human body.

How much can an average man bench press?

There is really no such thing as an "average". Some guys have more muscle mass than others, allowing for more weight to be moved. Some guys spend hours in the gym each week to build their capacity. Most muscle mass and strength is achieved from late teens through late twenties. As your age increases, your capacity to build and tone muscle decreases. Regardless of size or strength, genetics is the primary key to what you can achieve. Proper diet and natural supplements can help but short of illegal steroids, your genetics are going to determine how large and strong you can get.

What supplements do you have to take to build muscles fast?

None, the best way for you to gain muscle would be very few reps of an extreme amount of weight, never do more than 10 at a time, of course you can always take Anabolic Steroids, but these can have a harmful affect on your control of your anger, as you might get random outburst of rage, plus testicular shrinkage, meaning you lose the "One Muscle That Counts", I would recommend either going to your doctor and getting a good plan together with them or do muscle training once per muscle group, and few reps with heavy weights once a day, and twice a day do Cardio work-outs such as running, swimming, climbing, ect. (Now the Cardio is just for a healthier body, it doesn't give you a huge amount of muscle but is equally important.

What type of skills are required in weightlifting?

In pro wrestling, natural athleticism is a must. Coordination is also a big one. Most importantly, you need to be able to think clearly during a major adrenaline rush, while being slammed, suplexed and pounded on, so that you remember where you are and the story you're trying to tell. Also, patience. Nobody gets good overnight. Most guys on TV took five years or more to even get noticed in the business.

If you attend a good wrestling school, all of the things listed above will be developed. I've found that there's no real way to tell if someone is good or not until they go to a wrestling school and try it.

What are good workouts to improve your chest muscles?

The 2 best chest exercises in my most humble opinion are the bench press and weighted dips. These are compound exercises. As for isolation exercises, one may also want to try doing flyes with dumbbells and a pec deck machine.

The bench press, which is one of the Big Five Barbell lifts has variations such as the incline and decline bench press which hit the chest muscles at different angles.
