It is a short term fix for controlling whether or not a program loads during startup.

The arrogance of programmers to presume everyone wants everything to load during startup makes configuring many programs difficult.

But working within the programs to control their startup behavior is preferable to using MSCONFIG.

Whenever possible, when installing a program, rather than using the default, choose the Advanced installation method and control where and when your program installs/ loads.
