The saxophone repertoire is any music written for saxophone, or transcribed for saxophone. This makes this music specific to saxophone and therefore playable on saxophone. this can vary based on a wide variety of events, if you are in a school band, or have a private teacher, were playing is instructed and professional, you will learn faster... there is no set level of experience required to officially be considered, as having learned to play, my philosophy is, the second you play your first song you play saxophone, don't let this go to your head though, just because you "play" doesn't mean your any good... I've been playing for 5 years.. and as far as i have gone, (believe me, you have no idea) theres always that window in front of you that you can get better to pass through even the best players of all time could be infinitely better... there is no limit, and so there is no set time

Well, sax is a great instrument, but i play the flute and you can play a wide range of different music with it, from classic, to jazz, and you can even beatbox with it, if your up for the challenge! but I'm a bit biased:) go with whichever one feels right for you.

Another would be the two sonatas by Johannes Brahms (a late romantic composer), I like them both so much I would count them together. The third piece I would count as a favorite is the Sonata by Paul Hindemith (a 20th century composer).

Clarinet is not the only instrument I think but the way the embouchure is and the tongue position make it physically impossible to utalize vibrato. Although it still has a very pretty and resonate sound.
