Why can semen cause a yeast infection?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

f you get a yeast infection, it is definitely not from your husband's sperm.

A yeast infection, which is also known as candidiasis, is caused by a specific yeast-like microorganism. It is known as candida albicans and is commonly found in the human intestinal tract. What many gynecologists recommend is that females wipe from front to back after defecating (bowel movement) in order to minimize the chances of the yeast entering the reproductive tract; the vagina, because of its close proximity to the anus.

The same microorganism can cause a condition known as thrush, which happens to children and the elderly. It is generally focused around the mouth and the anus.

There is some speculation that the imbalance of intestinal flora, the friendly bacteria, in the intestinal tract have become unbalanced, and that may lead to a yeast infection, or thrush. This can be caused by the use of antibiotics, like penicillin.

One of the remedies that may help would be to include pro-biotic foods in your diet on a regular basis. These would include naturally fermented foods with active cultures like yogurt, buttermilk, sauerkraut, kim chee, kefir, or kombucha. You can also go to a vitamin shop, or a health food store, and buy probiotic capsules that can be found in the supplement section.

Can you prevent a yeast infection?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes. Yeast infections can be caused if you keep your underwear on to long without changing it, or if you don't change you pads/tampons often enough. To prevent a yeast infection. Remember to change your underwear at least every day, and change your pads/tampons every 2-6 hrs. Signs of a yeast infection can be discolored discharge. Regular discharge is normal, but if it smells or is a strange color like yellow, green, or gray, it's not regular and there could be a problem.

What foods should you avoid if you have a yeast infection?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

  • Yeast (bread, bagels, pasta, pastries, pizza, etc.)
  • Brewer's yeast, baker's yeast, and products containing those things
  • Yeast extract or anything containing it such as shop bought gravy or sauce mixes, stock cubes
  • All grains and cereals Brown or white
  • Wheat, Rye, Barley and possibly oatmeal
  • Pepper - black and white
  • Sugar (jam, jelly, jello, sweets, chocolate, candy, molasses, corn syrup, etc.)
  • Fruits (some people can eat berries and grapefruits, but not the rest, and don't eat too much because they contain sugar.) However, for many other people all fruits will made the condition worse
  • Coffee
  • Alcohol (beer, wine, liquor)
  • Processed foods (eat fresh food as much as you can)
  • Peanuts and pistachios. Other nuts are fine. However, some people find that all nuts make the condition worse.
  • Meats that have been treated with antibiotics (look for organic meat as much as you can)
  • Mushrooms
  • All vinegars and products containing them
  • Soy (soya)
  • Fermented foods and fermented sauces
  • All refined (processed) carbohydrates
  • All cheeses
  • Particularly yeasty or moldy cheeses, such as Roquefort or Blue Cheese.

It is important to stress that refined carbohydrates includes: white flour, white bread, white pasta, white rice and many more things. For a list of refined (processed) carbohydrates, please see the page link, further down this page, listed under Related Questions.

It is also important to stress that you need to stick to the diet until all of the symptoms have completely gone. If you allow yourself to be tempted to have something naughty - perhaps something sweet like a cake, however small a piece - you could find yourself back at square one again.

Diets for oral thrush?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

don't risk your teeth. Oral thrush requires a full course of antibiotics.

Unsweetened yogurt and cheese won't hurt but are definitely not a cure

Save your time and money- skip the Dr. visit and invest in a bottle of peroxide. Swab your mouth with it several times a day. This is much more effective than any diet, and significantly cheaper than prescription medication. And, as antibiotics are known to CAUSE yeast infections, probably much more effective.

Can you get pain from a yeast infection?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, you can get blisters with a yeast infection.

Here are some personal experiences:

After spending the past 3 days worrying about this myself - yes you can! My gynecologist tested me for herpes "to be safe" and my heart has been in my stomach just trying to wrap my brain around that - because all of my symptoms and what I was seeing and feeling led me to think the worst. I've had yeast infections before, this one I got at the same time I had an upper respiratory infection and whatever combination of drugs or stress or whatever that my body was under gave me the WORST ever yeast infection that took a pill and a cream that I had to use for 3 days to finally get rid of it. It brought along with it blisters, that looked like sores - they were INSANELY painful, to the point where I couldn't walk, and it's taken about 7-10 days to finally get some relief. What I can recommend is to ask your doctor for 2% lidocaine cream - you have to reapply about every 4 hours - but it's a life saver, and defiantly for the first 5 days, ask for pain pills - that's the only way I was able to walk, let alone put clothes on - and especially sleep. It looks God awful, it feels a million times worse - but do not read the stuff about herpes, it will just make you depressed on top of it!

You can get blisters with a yeast infection. I've gotten them a 3 times. My yeast infections were caused by allergic reactions to soaps and such. Each time I got them it was right after I had used something new on that area. The first time I went to a doctor who was an idiot and even though I told her there was no possible way I had herpes, she insisted on testing me for it. Guess what? I don't have herpes. Anyway the second time I got the blisters I went to another doctor who told me it was just a really bad yeast infection and gave me a prescription. It went away quicker when I didn't have a moron scraping and swabbing it and actually got the right medication. I would suggest if you have this, go to your doc and get prescription strength meds because if its this bad the otc stuff probably won't work.

AnswerNo, never heard of that ever. I would think that maybe an std, or something. See your doctor. AnswerI'm allergic to the clotrimazole usually used to treat a yeast infection and this happens to me. Get checked by the doctor or clinic. AnswerBlisters are a symptom of genital herpes. Outbreaks can be much like a yeast infection, though with blisters that eventually heal over (thus ending the outbreak). As the rest said, SEE YOUR DOCTOR.

Answer

Yes, you can get blisters with a yeast infection, though it is not very common. I have had this happen both times I've had a yeast infection; once randomly during a yeast infection, and another after i used an over-the-counter medication (Miconazole) to try to cure it. I get a resistant strain of yeast infection and need prescription medication (terconazole) for it. The blisters are very similar to herpes and i got tested both times only to come back with negative results. The main difference is that the yeast infection blisters cause discomfort, whereas herpes blisters cause pain. For the blisters to go away, i was given the prescription antibiotic doxycyline, and they disappeared in a few days. The second time, however, since the gyno was unsure, i was given the antibiotic ciprofloxacin, which didn't help although the blisters went away by themselves after around 5 days. Since the symptoms are so similar, and yeast infection blisters seem to be quite uncommon (my gyno had never seen them before), it is best to go to a doctor to find out for sure.

Answer

I've had a blistering yeast infection. No doctor will prescribe you antibiotics for it since it can only be helped with 2 diflucans one of which you will take and the other in 3 days. Oh yes you will need pain pills because this is the only way you can urinate without crying, walk without wanting to die and dress yourself. No steroid creams, antibiotics or std medication is needed and may hurt yourself in the long run. You do have an underlying disease if this happens. I am a diabetic and stress, not eating right etc brought it on for me. Have yourself checked out by your doctor for diabetes since they do get them often. Hope this helps

I am praying that I don't have GH as well! This is making me hopeful! I have been crying and praying non stop...waiting for my results back. The dr. said it LOOKS like GH, but I've looked online at pictures and they seem so much worse than my blisters. I have a discharge that is similar to a yeast infection. I'm praying that I'm healthy and that I do not have GH. My partner doesn't have any signs...so we are both confused as to how we've been honest and only with each other...and only one of us has an outbreak. God, I pray that I am clean and that I do not have GH. This is devastating and really scary. Also, my dr. said that even if the result comes out negative to GH...it doesn't mean that I don't have them. She said it's common for the results to be negative...and that they typically diagnose based on VISUAL observation. This all just sounds like a lose lose situation. I hope this is a big mistake. I notice that when I have a burst of discharge...the blisters seem to burn more. My first symptoms were pain during urination, and cramping in my stomach...some discharge...I thought I had a bladder infection...then I ended up getting blisters a day or two later...the blisters have been here for a week now. Im on a prescription for both a bladder infection (for a week now) and GH (for 2 days now). The pain during urination and the cramps are gone. The blisters and discharge are still apparent. Pray for me.

Answer:

This past week I went to the doctors because I had itching, burning, and little red bumps around my vagina opening and around it. It felt like little paper cuts every time I would walk. My vulva was very dry also. I could hardly walk, it burned when I went to the bathroom and I was so depressed. He told me I genital herpes but it seemed impossible to me. I was scared and me and my boyfriend were crying all the time. Finally I took a blood test and this morning my test results came back negative, thank God. I really thought that I had it so I just wanted to post this telling everyone that you may have to signs but don't think the worst. These posting helped me before I found my test results and gave me a little comfort knowing that some doctors can misdiagnose these things. I still don't know what I have but a yeast infection or some type of infection sounds a lot better then having herpes.

I just posted my symptoms (second post up from this)...and I got my results back...they were NEGATIVE!!! My prayers were answered. I was so relieved,

You guys have no idea how much this post is making me feel a little better. im 19 years old and I just found out that I'm pregnant. me and my bf have been sexually active now for a while and I've had no signs of anything bad down there until just recently. My bf went to DC for a family vacation and when he came back we had sex. after we had sex he complained that he itched a little. a couple days later I felt burning when i peed and thought i had a yeast infection and might have passed it on to him. I help off on sex from then on and then a couple days later a little blister appeared on the inner lip of my vagina..then i found another and another and then there was 5 of them. they're all in different spots.. one is closer to my butt then my vagina.. i freaked out and couldn't get into the dr. until today. she took one look and said "what if i told you i think its herpes" they did a swab test and the results come back Thursday. I'm so scared. I've already been crying all day. I'm hoping and praying its not GH but there's always a possibility. after reading this post im having a little more hope. I'm nervous. please pray for me.

Yes! As woman we are always taught to wipe from front to back, well guess what happens when you have a yeast infection? Also, if (man or woman) you have too much yeast in your body, your anus can get a yeast infection just from pooping. This is common when people have been on antibiotics for an extended amount of time, diabetic, or from other immune weakened situations.

What are the best treatments for a male yeast infection?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Candidiasis (yeast infection) is alleged to be successfully treated either with home remedies or, in the case of a more severe infection, with either over the counter or prescription antifungal medications. Home remedies for candidiasis include the consumption or direct application of yogurt, which contains lactobacillus (a "friendly" bacteria that kills yeast), acidophilus tablets or salves, and even lightly crushed cloves of garlic, which yield allicin, an antifungal. Boric acid has also been used to treat yeast infections when gelcaps are filled with boric acid powder and two are inserted at bedtime for three to four nights. Whilst home remedies only offer relief in minor cases of infection, seeking medical attention is a necessity as the extent of the infection often cannot be judged well by the sufferer. Prescription medication is often the only solution to an infection; the antifungal drugs commonly used to treat candidiasis are topical clotrimazole, topical nystatin, fluconazole, topical ketoconazole. In severe infections (generally in hospitalized patients), amphotericin B, caspofungin, or voriconazole may be used. This is mainly talking about female yeast infection, which is much more serious than male yeast infection.

You probably don't need to go to a doctor unless it gets really bad. Just don't have sex until it's gone, and wear boxers, not "tighty whities". "Tighty whities" don't allow enough air flow and can make you more likely to get a yeast infection.

If you still have any professional questions about yeast infection, you could consult online doctors, such as Wuhan Dr. Lee's TCM Clinic, to get professional online help.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is the ladies who usually get the yeast infection. As for treatment of yeast infection, antibiotics are the most common but it will cause drug resistance and can be easily recurrent. Herbal medicine like Fuyan Pill maybe a better option compared with antibiotics, because it is made from Chinese herbs without any side effects and drug resistance.

Can apple cider vinegar cure a yeast infection?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Most likely in trace amounts, yes.

To make apple cider vinegar, you start with apple juice.

Yeast is added to the juice, which transforms the sugars in the juice to alcohol. During this time, care is taken to ensure that no oxygen is able to get to the "must".If it is allowed to completely ferment, nearly all (but unlikely completely all) off the sugarsa will be gone from the juice. At this point you have "Hard" cider (or just cider if you live outside the USA).

At this point, the airlocks are removed and a bacteria is introduced (or allowed to self-introduce) to the cider. This bacteria turns the alcohol into acedic acid- which is the stuff that gives vinegar its strong taste and smell.

It is unlikely that there would be a complete transformation of all the alcohol, so yes there is most likely alcohol in the vinegar.

However, it is in amounts so small as to be nearly impossible to detect.
