William C. Gorgas was the medical officer who helped to eliminate yellow fever in Panama by establishing different types of programs like the fumigation of mosquito infested areas. Another one of his sanitary programs was the drainage of swamps that were breeding areas for disease-carry mosquitoes. When he implemented these programs, he was a sanitary officer working on the Panama Canal project during the early years of the 20th century.

Yellow fever is called this because the virus attacks the cells of the liver causing jaundice or yellowing of the skin and the "whites" of the eyes. It also causes severe bleeding. This disease is called a hemorrhagic fever.

Walter Reed (1851-1902) was a United States Army doctor who became internationally known after he and his colleagues on the Surgeon General's Yellow Fever commission discovered that the mosquito was the vector for the transmission Yellow Fever. This lead to the virtual eradication of the disease, saving countless lives.

In 1902, Reed's life was cut short by complications from appendicitis. His friend and colleague, William Cline Borden, operated on Reed, but was unsuccessful in saving his life. Borden wanted Reed's legacy to continue, and envisioned the creation of an Army medical center that encompassed medical care, research, and education. He wanted the hospital to be named after his dear friend, Major Walter Reed. He repeatedly petitioned Congress, and in 1905, the Army was granted the funds to begin construction on Walter Reed U.S. Army General Hospital.

2. If they are no longer an approved centre ask for the details of the vaccination on headed notepaper or a copy of the original certificate. They are obliged under law to keep the original record for 20 years.
