How do you make vegan coconut yogurt?

Making yoghurt from scratch is hard enough let alone trying to make it vegan. my best answer to this would be to use a yoghurt starter mix. a lot of recipes for making yoghurt from scratch involve using already made yoghurt as a starter. as you want this to be vegan you will have to find an alternative for this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZK50D2?ie=UTF8&tag=homemyogur-20&link_code=as3&camp=211189&creative=373489&creativeASIN=B000ZK50D2

if you try buying this

the rest is easy all you have to do is look up any yoghurt recipe online and substitute the starter yoghurt for the original formula and the milk for coconut milk. i would suggest overall though buying the yolife yoghurt making book (also on amazon).

do be cautious as to how vegan you want the yoghurt though as yo life starter formulae contains good bacteria. it is impossible to make yoghurt without bacteria so there will always be a living thing in yoghurt it is just down to your definition of living thing.

Why Egyptian used yogurt in paints?

They didn't and I can not imagine why you think they did. Yoghurt was completely unknown in ancient Egypt.

Paints were made by mixing natural mineral pigments such as chalk, ochre, arsenic sulphate, haematite, malachite, copper silicate, cobalt salts or charcoal with water and egg-white, sometimes adding gum Arabic (tree sap) or beeswax as a thickener and binder.

Yoghurt was never an element in Egyptian art.

Who invented yogurt?

Yogurt was first produced in retail quantities by the Turks in the 15th century and it was made for individual consumption long before that. No one knows who was the first to make it..

The word is derived from turkish-yoğurt, and is related to yoğurmak 'to knead' and yoğun "dense" or "thick."

Is yogurt still good to eat if it curdles?

It depends on what causes it to curdle, I'd think.

Curdling occurs when the proteins in the milk contract in respond to acid or heat. This is no different from watching the white of an egg turn hard and opaque when it fries. (Enzymes can also cause curdling...rennin is a good example, used to make cheeses with little/no sour taste)

I would suppose that the more acidic the yogurt, the more likely it is to curdle. Home made yogurts become more acidic the longer they are processed at that 100F to 120F temp. If making home made, heating the milk too high will also cause curdling.

The "sour" of yogurt is lactic acid formed by the bacteria. The acidic environment prevents allot of the "bad" bacteria and molds from growing. Yogurt has a characteristic "sour" odor (open a pint of plain yogurt and take a whiff).

From my very limited experience with yogurt and beer making the rule of thumb I've heard is; if it smells horrible, it probably is horrible: it's bad. "Sulfury", "rotten egg" or "roadkill in the summer" horrible...not just like sour milk (because yogurt is soured milk)

Homemade may be a little more sour smelling, but if the odor coming off it can curl your toes, and/or if there is evidence of gas bubbles and/or colorful or black molds...dump it. (Yogurt can get a white mold on top...this is OK, I've been told. Just scrape it off.)

The rule that tops them all, with regard to food spoilage is :"when in doubt, throw it out."

You ate yogurt that was past its due date How much trouble are you in?

Probably none. Due dates tend to be conservative, and many foods if they are properly stored are good beyond their recommended due date. Yogurt, on account of its acidity, actually has a very long shelf life in a refrigerator. As long as you didn't see any discoloration, like blue-tinge, then it wasn't spoiled by mold. I think you'll be just fine. Even if you ate the blue-tinge it would only give you some diarrhea.

AnswerWhile it's not a good idea to be consuming expired food products, if you've consumed an expired product and haven't experienced any vomiting or other symptoms of food poisoning, you're probably alright.

The date stamped on the container is usually a "sell by" date, which means that stores aren't allowed to sell the product after such a date. The product tends to be good and completely safe for at least a week afterward, assuming it was properly stored.

There are also "best before" dates on products. Consuming a product shortly after this date may mean that the product might not taste as good (chips might taste a bit stale), but should not cause any food poisoning.

If it was an actual "expiration date", yes, you probably should have tossed it away. However, the conditions that a product is stored under can affect its shelf life. So supposing your refrigerator is at a cold setting, the product's real life may have been extended.

Under any of these conditions, consuming a product two or three days after its expiration date is probably not going to do you any harm. Food doesn't just magically sour and turn poisonous on midnight of its stamped date. Was it just a day or three past the sell-by date, or was it weeks and weeks past it's prime? Did the yogurt smell or look at all different? If it didn't or you've made it through the night without cramping, diarrhea, or a fever, you probably don't have anything to worry about.

Food manufacturers are probably encouraged to use the "sell by" dates on products, as it builds in a significant safety window after which the product may or may not be good. Consumers probably also discard such products almost immediately after these sell-by dates, even though they're likely safe for several days to several weeks past this date. The result is that consumers buy more food and that manufacturers have a very low chance of selling spoiled products to the consumer.

Can a standard plate count be done on soy yogurt?

Yes, an SPC can be done on anything (within reason), but the info you receive from the test will be irrelevant. Mostly likely, depending on your culturing, you will get a HUGE number of microbes (I've seen as high as 50 million). If you're an idiot, you'll assume the product is dirty...but what you're seeing is all the "good" bacterial cultures.

You could plate it on selective media to see coliforms, staph, yeasts/molds or even a particular strain of culture, but SPC is kinda useless with anything cultured.
