What are white worms in the cat's feces and how do you treat them?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The symptoms of roundworms in adult cats are very similar to tapeworms. In kittens vomiting, diarrhea, dull coats, a pot belly on a thin body, and weakness are symptoms of roundworm. It is a good idea to get your kitten checked for roundworm by your vet, as it can cause serious illness in kittens.

Your vet will prescribe a dewormer, and it may have to be repeated several times before the roundworms are gone. Ascarid eggs are very resistant, so during the treatment litter should be scooped daily and litter pans washed with hot water and detergent regularly. Throw out the litter and disinfect the boxes before the end of the treatment

How do you get a cat to lay on a cat bed?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Lure it with food or lock it out of your room. It will get used to sleeping in its bed and not in yours, if you lock it in its room where the cat bed is.

You can either try to just keep putting it in the cat bed right after you give it milk or food because it will probably be sleepy right after eating/drinking (if it's not yet weaned).

Some cats, though, just don't like cat beds, and may choose to sleep in a chair, on a desk, under the bed, etc. if not on your bed. Do not try to force it to sleep somewhere, as this will only cause other problems such as the cat peeing, clawing, etc. in the place where you lock it in, and if you physically force it into the bed, you'll just get hurt. It's just not smart to try to force a cat to do something they don't want to do, and cruel to punish it for protesting.

What size collar should you get for your cat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Collars can help identify your cat in case it gets lost and needs to be returned to you. They can also act as a key pass for your cat flap so that other cats cannot get in. And you can also buy flea collars to get rid of fleas. However it depends on your cat as to whether you give them a collar. In some cases, such as if you cat climbs a lot, it may be best not to give them a collar, in case they get it caught on any branches. However, if they tend to get lost and wander off, it may be the best idea so your kitty can come home again.

Can you get fleas from your cat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, definitely. Fleas can infest almost any mammal. For example, I took my cat outside for a stroll, and a few days later I was itching like crazy. So was she.

If you think you have fleas from your cat, I suggest flea bombing the house, flea shampooing your cat, and yourself.

What is the most expensive cat food?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Two breeds vie for the top spot of most expensive

  • Savannah- a serval/domestic hybrid can cost up to $50,000
  • Ashera - a serval/Asian leopard cat/domestic hybrid - about $100,000

One website questioned the authenticity of the Ashera breed by pointing out that DNA testing of the only known Asheras had shown they were actually Savannahs, but were priced much higher than Savannahs.

Please note that a male tortoiseshell is not a breed of cat, but a coloration. Tri-color cats are almost always female.

How do you make a cat repellent?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

To keep the cat away from the couch or from acting out certain behaviors all you need to do is run to the nearest drug store, beauty supply, dollar store, etc to purchase a cheap water bottle sprayer (example: like a bottle sprayer for your hair). Put water in the bottle and put the setting on stream where it will shoot a stream vs. just mist and voila you have a homemade pet sprayer. This should start eliminating the bad behaviors.

Just remember if they are not acting out badly to reward them with treats and love.

Is meow mix good for cats?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Meow Mix is a terrible quality food. The first ingredients are "Ground yellow corn, corn gluten meal". Cats are strict carnivores - they get all their nutrition and energy from Proteins and Fats in fresh meat. Therefore a food truly suitable for a cat are the ones with a very high, named-meat content. They should be labeled by source, such as: Chicken, Turkey, Rabbit, Lamb, Tuna, etc., as the first, or first couple, of ingredients.

Yellow Corn, Corn Gluten Meal and Soybean Meal are also one of the most common causes of allergies in foods, and provide no nutritional value to the cat.

Next there is: chicken by-product meal, soybean meal, beef tallow preserved with mixed tocopherols (source of Vitamin E), turkey by-product meal, brewers dried yeast

  • By-Product Meal are the leftover parts of the animal (lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, blood, bone, some fatty tissue, and stomach and intestines). Not very good quality, but better than corn.
  • Salmon/Fish/Turkey Meal is terrible; its the rendered (moisture and fat removed) "waste" tissues of an animal. Very low quality which has little Protein in.
  • Soybean meal is soy that is added to cat food for the protein benefit, but because its a plant it gives barely any nutritional value whatsoever. The possible allergic reaction to soy makes it an ingredient to avoid. Many cat foods have banned any soy product being used in the their foods.
  • Beef Tallow is essentially rendered fat. This gives the food a bit of flavour.
  • Animal Digest is a broth made from unspecified parts of animals. The animals used can be obtained from any source, so there is no control over quality or contamination. This can include roadkill, animals euthanized at shelters, restaurant and supermarket refuse.

Other things in the list that are worrying: added color (red 40, yellow 5, blue 2, and other color), there is also added salt (too much salt over a period of time could seriously harm a cat).

Needless to say, Meow Mix is very poor quality which some ingredients could cause allergies.

There are foods that are completely free of these ingredients, with Named Meat sources at the first (or even first two or three) of the Ingredients list. Such high-quality foods are much healthier for a cat and much easier to digest. Cats are carnivores; they need meat-based protein, not plant-based protein. A cat or kitten will often overeat on lower quality foods because they are not getting all the nutrients they need, which can result in obesity and other health problems which can drastically shorten a cat's lifespan and overall quality of life.

What if your cat licks off the frontline?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer Cat can't lick off medYour cat can't lick off the medicine if you place it in the correct spot which is between his shoulder blades. Maybe you should talk to your vet also.

Another great spot is right at the base of the cat's skull. This is where my vet told me to apply it. If you have multiple cats, keep them separated for a few hours until the product is dry to keep them from grooming it off of each other. Though, the product has a very bitter taste so the cat may not want to lick that spot very much :)

Im frustrated here! People can have more than one cat, thus allowing A cat to lick the frontline of another cat even if it is placed correctly!!! Heads out of butts Please!!

People who say cats can't lick medicine off the shoulder blade area must have never watched a cat lick itself. They will lick their paw and wipe any area they cannot reach with their tongue. Then they lick the paw again, which has the Frontline on it, and repeat. Otherwise, cats would have dirty heads, and they don't. So, about the Frontline-----since every cat is going to lick it off, cats would be dying in the hundreds of thousands if this was a problem. Frontline is not systemically active. It collects in the oil glands and kills fleas and ticks, not cats. If a cat licks a whole lot quickly, the bad taste may cause increased salivation. You also see this drooling when pilling a cat with a bitter-tasting antibiotic. This does not mean the cat has been poisoned. Give it something to drink and it will be fine. I suppose there is the rare case of a cat having an allergic response to it. I once had a cat that scratched for a whole month after using Frontline, and I had to substitute Advantage. But other than that, don't worry about it, and don't use another pipette because you think the cat has licked it all off. I assure you that enough got into the cat's skin to work for a month.
