Can a 6 month old male cat breed?

Yes, a six-month old kitten is very likely to have reached sexual maturity and able to breed. This is why it is recommended to have the cat neutered as soon as possible. If the kitten is healthy and weighs enough, it may be neutered as young as two months old, although the usual age for this procedure is four to six months.

What happens after a cat goes into heat?

All female cats (or queens) that have not been spayed will come in heat (or estrus) at stages in their lives. This may happen from as young as the age of 4 months and recur seasonally (usually summer seasons with more daylight).

The cat stays in heat for normally 4-6 days and during the summer season will come in heat again every 2-3 weeks. These periods may vary widely. The cat will come out of heat and the cycles will end once the cat has mated or the season ends. After giving birth a female cat may come in heat again in as soon as 7 days although this usually happens after about 4 weeks.

Why does a mother cat sometimes eat her kittens?

The cat people contribute their ideas:

  • Mother cats sometimes eat their kittens if they are unhealthy or have died. This is nature and I would assume the nutrients are needed to feed the other kittens. But sometimes a mother cat will just ignore the ailing or dead kitten.
  • The mother cat might eat her kittens if you mess with them too much when they are little. Cats detect a lot by smell, and if the kitten smells wrong (i.e, of you) it might assume it's unhealthy and kill it.
  • Some cats are genetically abnormal, and can't produce the hormones which trigger maternal behaviour. That means they might treat their own kittens as prey. If you see a mother cat kill her entire healthy litter, you probably shouldn't breed from her again. Be wary of breeding from her surviving kittens as well - it's a genetic trait, which means the problem might be passed on.
  • Kittens born in winter, when they aren't likely to survive, are sometimes killed to save strength for the mother.
  • If you put your cat under too much stress, she might decide she can't protect her kittens and give them up as a lost cause. You need to give her a quiet, dark place to make her nest, and leave her alone most of the time. If she moves her nest, stop bothering her.

How do you know if a cat is male or female?

Same as you would any other animal. If you are unsure consult a vet or cat breeder.

The best way to tell what gender a cat is, it by looking underneath the base of its tail. A male cat that has not been neutered will have two furry testicles right below the anus, and a penis right below the testicles. A neutered male cat will not have visible testicles, but there will be a noticeable space between its anus and penis.

Spayed and intact female cats alike will have a genital opening (vulva) which is often seen as a tear-drop shape located right below the anus.

Please note that checking for nipples is not an accurate way of telling a cat's gender - male cats can have nipples too! They just have no function, much the same as human males have nipples but have no use for them.

It is usually considered safe to paint with latex paint in a ventilated room, but it is not safe to climb ladders!! When cat goes in labor what happens?

When my cat Willow went into labour first her waters broke. I'd say within 30 minutes or so she was having contractions. A few weeks previousely id put some sheets in a large box and kept putting her in it so she knew it was her bed. When her contractions started i put her in the box and that was about as much as I did. She was amazing, they have a natural instinct and she didnt need any help. She had 7 kittens altogether who grew into healthy cats. However my other cat, Tilly had problems with her pregnancy. Although she was 2 yrs old she was only small and so when the time came I had to take her to the vets and it was clear she was struggling. She only had one kitten but she knew striaght away how to look after him.

I wouldn't worry to much about the labour id just make sure a bed is prepared and keep a close eye that she doesnt try to move them outside or to a place you cant access to check on them.

Take care

If your cats love to dunk their head in the toilet how do you get them to stop?

Close the toilet seat or toilet door, also, close the door of the bathroom if you don't want to keep the bathroom door shut for some reason just put something in front of the door to block it.

Your cat is probably thirsty. Put the toilet seat down, and change its water in its bowl regularly.

How do cats have mate?

When the female cat goes into heat, the male will mount her and bite the scruff of the female cat's neck and place his penis inside her vulva. A male cat's penis has barbed ridges on it, which stimulates ovulation in the female. Then, once you hear the female let out a piercing howl, he has mated her. Mating may occur many times, and with different males.

What breed of cat makes the best house cat?

Answer:

It also depends on the cats personality, not the breed. I have one cat that is two years old, he is a mix breed. He is really nice but afraid of everything, my other two mix breeds are very hyper, and my tabby cats are pretty hyper also.

However, there are some breeds that are very well known for being incredibly patient and gentle - especially with young children. These breeds include: American Shorthair, Maine Coon, Birman, Burmese, Persian and Ragdoll. However, it is best to look for a cat whose personality will match yours, not what breed it is.

Answer:

There isn't a "magic" breed that makes a great house cat. Your best bet would be to go to a shelter or rescue organization and check out the personality of the cats. Many rescue organizations will foster the cats so you get a real idea of what the cat/kitten's personality is like and whether or not it would suit your life.

Calicos are not a breed. They could have any personality, just like other mixed-breed cat. Calico, like the Tabby, is a coat colour which can be found in many many different breeds.

Answer:

Well, the best advice I could give you is to get a cat breed book, I have one called The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Cats, Cat Breeds, and Cat Care. It is by Alan Edwards. It gives you basic info on the cat, and then it gives you examples of what its personality is, for example, for The American Shorthair, it says, Temperament: bold, intelligent, inquisitive, and active. It also give info on the cats' coat, eyes, other features, grooming, too.

Can female kitten get pregnant at 4 months?

Yes. While the average age is 6 months, some kittens reach sexual maturity as early as 4 months old. Because of this, it is ideal that a kitten is spayed before this age to limit the risk of unwanted pregnancy.

Pregnancy in a kitten so young has a high risk of complications with the pregnancy and birth, which could ultimately harm or become fatal for the mother or the kittens.

How long do male cats mate for?

Generally speaking, the mating process in cats is brief, but often very loud. Cats usually mate multiple times, often with different partners if they are nearby. A male cat has no part in caring for the female cat or her kittens when they arrive.

Can a cat get pregnant without a husband?

Cats don't have husbands. They have no concept of what marriage is or what it means. They don't have romantic relationships with each other like humans do. They just mate (have sex) and move on.

But like humans (and most animals) cats reproduce sexually. This means that to make offspring (babies), both an egg cell from the female and a sperm cell from the male are needed. Both parents (mother and father) are needed to create offspring.

So a female cat cannot get pregnant without a male cat. The male cat has to impregnate her by passing his sperm to her egg.

How do you know if a cat is pregnant?

* She loses interest in roaming/hunting and prefers to stay inside lounging. * She becomes NOTICEABLY more affectionate, approaching you to be cuddled and held much more frequently than usual. * She shows a large increase in appetite. * Depending on how far along she is you may notice her tummy swelling, and often if you actually hold her tummy you can feel the kittens moving around. If she is at this stage get ready because you only have about a week left to prepare for the new arrivals! * She will start "nesting". Hours before the birth she will find a place she considers warm and safe - possibly your own bed - and begin to turn it into a form of birthing den. You should prepare a nice clean cardboard box for her instead, lined with shredded newpaper, which can be easily disposed of after the birth. It's a messy business. Once the kittens and the mother are cleaned up you can look into adding blankets and so on. If you have decided she is pregnant you'll need to feed her as much as she will eat as often as she will eat it. This should be a combination of her regular food AND kitten food, which is rich in the nutrients she needs to promote healthy growth in her babies. AND GIVE HER AS MUCH LOVE AS SHE WANTS!
You will notice her middle bulging at the sides. My cat became very clingy and followed me about. Good luck
Take her to the vet to be sure. Some ways are if she is being more protective, particularly of her stomach. If she looks fat but the way to tell is it looks more ovalish, and less like fat.
There are many ways you can tell if your cat is pregnant. At three or four weeks, her nipples become bigger and pinker that a sign that she is pregnant that stage is called pinking and if she shows more affection towards you and if she has a change in diet that's another way. Expecting Queens will start to eat a lot more also.

You don't notice if your cat is pregnant until a little while after her egg was fertilized. When you start seeing a bulge in the mid, to lower section of the cats belly, that's when you know your cat could be pregnant. The belly starts growing at a somewhat rapid pace after you find out she is pregnant. If you wanted to know for sure, you could have a vet tell you if she is or not.
I cant answer im too busy thinking about cute little kittens
Big belly, swollen nipples. Later on in the pregnancy you can feel the babies wriggling around.
