How do you say termite in Spanish?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Centepede= Cienpiés. Literally cienpiés means "one hundred feet". It is a compound word consisting of cien (see/EN) meaning one hundred, and pies (pee/ES) feet. Both these words are one syllable words.

Cienpiés is both singular and plural. It can refer to one centepede or many centepedes. So when this word is used one should always qualify numbers, similar to the English word "deer".

Even though the word "ciento" also means 100 when followed by another number, Cientopiés is NOT a correct alternative word. The only other Spanish word that can be used as a translation for centipede is the the word for the type of insect miriápodo (Myriapod).

Do termites like light?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Many insects use the position of the Sun as a navigation tool.

If a source of light is bright enough and contains ultraviolet light, the insect will be confused by it and believing it is the Sun, will start to fly in progressivly smaller circles around the light source as it tries to navigate.

This effect is used by electric fly killers which use a UV light to attract flys to the lamp which is behind an electrically charged mesh of wires. The fly navigates into the lamp but is electrocuted by the mesh.

How do you get rid of termite from the house without killing them?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Baiting Method

It is considered as the latest method in dealing with termites. It is also actually used by most exterminators whenever they are in action and doing their jobs. In this method, you will be using a bait that would contains a specific chemical which will be ingested by the termites and be taken to their colony. Then the bait they have carried along with them will then be shared to the other termites within the colony without knowing that they are actually eating stuffs that could kill them.

Chemical Barrier

Another way of dealing with termites that had been proven by its successful results. Various homeowners, in fact, have applied this particular method, for several years now. The use of the liquid type of pesticides is applied to the ground within the perimeter of the building or the house. This would cause the blockage of all the possible entrance routes where termites are expected to enter. The termites that will enter the infected ground or the entrance are expected to be repelled or killed instantly.

The Fumigation

This particular termite control is also known as the tenting. It is also widely used by different homeowners in the past days. It will require a house to be enclosed before it would be fumigated. Most people are satisfied with the result they get from this method, as corners of their house had been fumigated therefore assuring them that no termites had possibly escaped.

With what species does the termite have a mutualistic relationship?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

mutualism is when 2 organisms benefit from each other. the termite benefits from the Trychonympha because the Trychonympha breaks down the CELLULOSE in the wood that the termites eat, which helps the digestive system "clear out". The Trychonympha benefits from the termite because the Trychonympha gets CELLULASE from the termite, which is the thing in the Trychonympha that actually does the "breaking down" of the cellulose. Without eachother, they wouldn't be able to survive.

The numbat of Western Australia eats termites.

Numbats feed almost exclusively on termites, although they will sometimes eat other types of ants. They have sharp claws for digging into termite mounds, although they prefer to dig out termites from under logs and underground, being able to detect them with their very sensitive noses. They have a sticky tongue for collecting the termites. A numbat eats as much as 20,000 termites a day.

What do you do if an inspection shows that your home has termites?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

During home inspections in New Jersey we find 80% or so of the homes (more than 20 years old) have or had termites at one time. It is quite common and usually a termite treatment is required. Treatment is usually about $500 to $1,000 dollars

However the real problem is when the home inspector tells the buyer there may be latent or hidden damages. That is where the big money comes into play. Termite damages can cost hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars to repair.

A good home inspector will make his or her client aware of the potential for latent damages and require the area where damages may exist be exposed to determine if repairs are necessary.

Termite damages that are NOT disclosed to home buyers are a very frequent cause for very expensive litigation where the previous home owner and realtors frequently find themselves digging deep into their pockets to pay out for damages.

How to control white ants or termites?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Cover, cuts, roughness, sanitation, smells and water are ways to control ants in gardens. The insects in question (Formicidae family) flourish where there are bare earth, cracked surfaces, disturbed grounds, high vegetation and yard debris. Ground covers, particularly of strong smelling plants such as marigolds and mints, regular removal of lawn cuttings and leaf drop, rough materials such as diatomaceous earth or scratchy organic mulches, and weekly mows along with such home remedies as cinnamon and salt sprinkled on bare and not-so-bare patches and as hot water poured into ant-friendly openings will help keep ant populations controllable.
